“Nothing,” Zhang Hongi replied shyly, turning her head away just in ti to see a black jeep driving out from the General Union’s office.
“There’s a car; they could give us a lift,” she said excitedly, waving her hand.
Sheng Ning quickly stopped and stood by the side of the road to wave, “Comrade, could you give us a lift?”
The jeep slowly decelerated and then stopped in front of them, rolling down the window to reveal the determined chin of the man’s profile. The man in the driver’s seat wore a pair of black sunglasses, which made him look even cooler.
In the ’80s, few people wore sunglasses, simply because they didn’t have the opportunity. And even if they did, the styles were so outdated they’d make your teeth hurt. This man’s sunglasses looked very much like the kind worn in future Hollywood blockbusters by Aricans.
Sheng Ning couldn’t help but take a closer look, but the more she looked, the more familiar he seed.
Sure enough, when the man turned his head, Sheng Ning instinctively covered her face. The more guilty she felt, the more likely it ca true; the more she dreaded sothing, the more she would encounter it.

Sheng Ning shivered and, without saying another word, turned around and walked away.
“Hello, Captain Xu!” Zhang Hongi greeted enthusiastically, only to turn and see that Sheng Ning had disappeared. She quickly called out.
But the person in the car was faster than she was, and without seeing exactly how Xu Qigang did it, she just noticed a blur before he was already out of the car, blocking Sheng Ning’s path.
“Hello, Captain Xu!” Sheng Ning said in her big red jacket, which made her greeting seem a bit comical.
Xu Qigang’s originally stern face softened a bit, “Why do you look scared when you see ?”
“I… I just rembered I have sothing urgent to do.” So stupid, I can’t even lie properly! Sheng Ning inwardly chastised herself fiercely.
“It’s perfect then, I’ll give you a lift,” Xu Qigang said, not giving her the chance to refuse. He directly ushered her into the passenger seat, then went back to the driver’s seat, closed the door, started the engine, and drove off.
Zhang Hongi stood there, looking stunned as she watched the car’s exhaust fus in the distance.
“Captain Xu…” Thinking of Zhang Hongi left behind on the road, she felt a bit sorry.
“Call Xu Qigang, or just Qigang.” Xu Qigang’s face was icy as he spoke in a tone as cold as shaved ice, saying words that made one’s heart race.
Sheng Ning’s previously calm heart suddenly started pounding like a drum. She stole a glance at Xu Qigang, feeling a sweet sense of satisfaction rise in her.
