Chapter 419: Chapter 429: I’m Here to Pick Up My Sister
Chen Huaying also recognized the car, but couldn’t place where she’d seen it. Could it be that so high-ranking official fell sick and was hospitalized? If that was the case, she figured the whole district would be buzzing with the news.
As the two of them passed by the sedan, the car door swung open, and Su Huai’an erged with a smile at the corners of his mouth.
“Been waiting for you guys for a long ti! It’s on my way, so let’s head back together.”
Sheng Ning took a step back instinctively, her expression cold and detached.
Chen Huaying finally rembered—this was Mr. Su’s private car, which she hadn’t seen him use for quite so ti. That’s why it took her so long to recognize it.
“Why are you here?” Chen Huaying didn’t have the nerve to give Su Huai’an the cold shoulder but feared the atmosphere would grow awkward. To ease the tension, she forced herself to make conversation.
“Grandpa Su wasn’t feeling well, he sought the Dean, and since I just finished visiting him, I offered him a ride back.” The Dean personally attending to Mr. Su was true enough, but there was no need for Huai’an to drive him. Nor was there any need for him to use Mr. Su’s private car for that matter.
His true purpose was to pick up his sister.
Su Huai’an stole a discreet glance at Sheng Ning and noticed that she was turned away from him, her delicate facial contours marked by a streak of harshness and rejection.
Su Huai’an felt sowhat disheartened and wanted to sigh but ultimately restrained himself, maintaining his composure with difficulty.
“What happened to Grandpa Su?”
“Just his old ailnts flaring up again, no big deal!” Su Huai’an saw his sister’s indifference and swiftly brushed over the topic. “Hurry up and get in the car! It’s getting colder by the minute.”
The weather really was biting cold, and it wasn’t easy to catch a ride. If they waited for a convenient lift, who knew when they might manage to get one?
“Sheng Ning, get in the car! We were planning to hitch a ride anyway, and it so happens that we’ve just co across one,” Chen Huaying said, beaming foolishly.
She hadn’t slept all night and could barely keep her eyes open.
Sheng Ning felt the sa. She had run a high fever all through the previous night and felt weak on her feet. But getting into the Su Family’s car was sothing she was reluctant to do.
“You get in; I’ll walk back on my own.” She preferred to walk rather than associate with the Su Family.
“Is that so?” Chen Huaying panicked. “Then I’ll just walk back with you too!” She was about to set off but was abruptly pulled back by Su Huai’an.
“What are you doing?” Sheng Ning had already turned and walked away.
“Convince her!” Su Huai’an said sternly.
Chen Huaying had never seen him like this before and was taken aback.
“Didn’t you hear? She is barely steady on her feet, she surely didn’t rest well last night, and she’s probably feeling unwell right now. If she truly walks back, she might be sick for a long ti.” It had to be said that Su Huai’an was indeed very attentive.
“Oh, okay!” Chen Huaying nodded, then said, “Hold on, I didn’t get any sleep last night either! Why isn’t anyone concerned about ?”
“I’ll pass the ssage to Chen Yingjie,” Su Huai’an replied earnestly, hurrying Chen Huaying as he watched Sheng Ning getting further away.
“Ouch…” Chen Huaying, with her theatrics, scread as if in pain, nearly falling to the ground, but fortunately, Su Huai’an was quick to catch her.
“What happened? Are you alright?” Fearing a repeat of Liu Yilan’s incident, Sheng Ning was on edge. Hearing the commotion, she rushed back, even forcefully shoving Su Huai’an to the side.
“Where does it hurt? Do you have a headache?”
“I’m just exhausted from working too hard yesterday, plus I stayed up all night with Liu Yilan, and now I have a headache! I can barely keep my eyes open.” Chen Huaying whispered as she clutched Sheng Ning’s clothes, “Let’s just take the car back! I really don’t want to walk; it’ll be dark by the ti we make it ho.”
