Now reading: Chapter 100 Cooks from the 90s 100 from She Only Cares About Cultivation, a Sci-fi novel by Yun Muqing.

They had been married for almost a year now, and honestly, it’d been a busy one. In the first half of the year, they were busy setting up their stall and doing business. But by the end of the year, the snack street was banned, so they could no longer set up their stall. After the year, they had to get busy with the restaurant’s renovation. Whether in her past life or this one, Gong Mingxia had never experienced renovations. Only after going through it this ti did she realize how troubling it could be.

Her husband, in an effort to save so money, ran around for materials himself, doing everything hands-on and supervising the construction. Naturally, the outco of such a renovation was much more reassuring than if they’d outsourced it entirely.

Their neighborhood was nad Shuiyunjian, a beautiful na, with an exceptionally wide green coverage. Since ninety percent of the residents didn’t own cars, parking spaces were scarce, mostly green belts. But in a few years, it was very likely all to turn into parking spaces, so her next goal was to buy a car and a parking spot.

After the storefront was renovated, it was ti to renovate their new house. According to Cao Yuan’s plan, they aid to finish the new house’s renovation before she gave birth. Living in it imdiately was not an option; they planned to leave it vacant for six months for basic airing. But having the new house renovated and waiting there was also a gift, a gift for their child.

So, for the next few months, Cao Yuan would spend all his spare ti from work on the renovations. Normally, his mother accompanied her for prenatal checkups. Fortunately, the hospital was only two or three stops away from their Sunshine Garden, and sotis they would just stroll there.

There was no surprise in her belly, just a single baby, and now it was possible to know the baby’s gender. Yet both the mother-in-law and she didn’t ask, for there were both boys and girls in their family, so this child, boy or girl, was eagerly awaited either way.

Can you imagine, waiting to have a baby and then getting a surprise, isn’t it much better than knowing the gender in advance?

Although Gong Mingxia hadn’t worked this year, she never stopped creating. There was a suspicion of plagiarism in her songs, and the path seed too smooth; it made her uneasy, so she preferred to take more effort and write novels.

Her first book, "Daqing Concubine," had not yet hit the market. Her second book, "Cook," had already been published and was doing quite well, selling the first twenty thousand copies. Now, they were planning to print an additional thirty thousand copies. With the publication of the second book as a foundation, her third book, "City," had entered the modification phase for publication, with an initial print order of fifty thousand copies. The publishing house seed very optimistic about Ming Xiu’s "products," which was a very good foundation.

In 2001, the biggest event was on July 13, when China successfully won its Olympic bid.

Before that, whenever the family gathered to watch the news on TV, they would speculate about whether it would be successful, and Gong Mingxia, while eating waterlon, would calmly tell them.

"Don’t worry. It will definitely be successful."

When the news ca out on July 13, Cao Yuan was very excited, touching Gong Mingxia’s belly as he spoke.

"This year really is a year to rember. What do you think, what should we na our baby?"

"She/he still has three months to go before coming out. That’s plenty of ti for you to think of a na,"

"Big brother is called Cao Yang and big sister is called Cao Xiaoyan. It would be best if this little one’s na could combine elents from both their nas. Alright, leave this to . I’ll think of sothing."

Actually, besides the successful Olympic bid, there was another montous event on September 11—the terrorist hijacking of comrcial airplanes that crashed into the World Trade Center and Pentagon, nearly killing 3000 people. However, this event was unrelated to Gong Mingxia, so there was no intention to do anything about it.

Another great piece of news was on December 11—China officially joined the World Trade Organization as its 143rd mber, signaling the imminent takeoff of our country’s economy.
