"I told you, how can we know if we don’t try it?" the Fat Queen declared.
Soon, the gates of Yikun Palace were flung open, rows of torch-bearing Imperial Guards rushed in, startling everyone within Yikun Palace severely.
"Rong Heng, you are surrounded. Won’t you surrender quickly? As long as you hand over the Imperial Jade Seal, Dongru Country will spare you and let you leave in safety," bood a voice from outside.
Yuan Yuan recognized the voice as that of Xie Lingyun, the leader of the Imperial Guard. But who was this Rong Heng? And what was this about an Imperial Jade Seal? Could it be that this person was here to stage a rebellion?
"What’s with that look? I was just bored and strolling around when, unexpectedly, I managed to steal your country’s Imperial Jade Seal so easily. Tsk tsk, the defense of Dongru Country is really not up to par, nowhere near as good as my Nanling Country!"
Yuan Yuan’s mouth twitched slightly, "So, you are an envoy from Nanling Country?"
"Yeah, didn’t I co to attend the New Year’s Eve banquet in your country? But let tell you, the quality of this banquet is so poor. If it’s not Dancers, it’s musicians; there’s not a single interesting performance. What’s most contemptible is that they even invited a concubine to such an event. I thought the Empress was no more, but it turns out you are confined here in this rotten palace because you’re too opulent and they fear crowding you out?"
With just a few sentences, Yuan Yuan could tell that the person before her loved to play around and, by so miscalculation, had gotten into a major predicant.
"Even if Dongru Country’s guards are terrible, aren’t you still trapped and unable to leave?"
Rong Heng scoffed coldly, "If it weren’t for my being outmanned and outgunned, would I be caught so easily? What do you say? Interested in having so fun in my Nanling Country?"
Yuan Yuan’s eyes brightened imdiately, "That’d be great, but are you sure you can take along?"
"What’s there to fear? Ning Xu doesn’t care about you, but soone does care, and that’s enough!"
And so, Yuan Yuan was escorted out of the sleeping chamber by Rong Heng. Stepping outside, she felt the chill wind biting at her skin, and when she looked up, snowflakes were drifting down from the sky. She then glanced down at herself, still dressed in her white nightgown, and imdiately felt dissatisfied and complained.
"You scoundrel, are you trying to freeze to death! If you send back to dress properly before coming out, it won’t be too late."
Rong Heng looked at her as if she were an idiot, "Big sister, do you think I’m playing gas with you? Hurry up and go, less nonsense!"
Yuan Yuan stared in disbelief. The person who had seed kind-hearted just a mont ago had suddenly beco wild and violent. She clenched her teeth, hugged her chest, and stepped barefoot—yes, barefoot because this scoundrel hadn’t even let her put on shoes—dragging her out like a hostage.
Ning Xu, dressed in his imperial robe, stared fiercely at Rong Heng. Though his voice still had a touch of immaturity, it carried an unprecedented severity.
"Hand over the Jade Seal, or you won’t leave Dongru Country alive today."
With a sword in his left hand and gripping Yuan Yuan’s neck with his right, Rong Heng was full of disdain and provocation.
"Then try and see, co on, shoot her full of arrows, and I’ll give you the Jade Seal!"
"Do you think she is your amulet? You are wrong; in my eyes, this woman is worth less than a beggar on the roadside!"
Ning Xu’s handso and unwavering face was filled with gloom and anger, and his words struck Yuan Yuan’s heart like a knife.
Although Yuan Yuan wasn’t surprised at all that such harsh words would co from Ning Xu, hearing them still made her heart ache for the original owner of her body.
