She chuckled twice: "You should be glad I’m not super fertile."

"No way, the more kids, the better. Isn’t being super fertile a good thing?"

"Of course not, giving birth is so painful. I don’t want to have a bunch. How will I go to work then?"

In a ti without contraception, while thankful for her constitution, she also contemplated whether to get checked, even though she’d already been checked before marriage, and they both didn’t have any major issues. But after almost a year of marriage, by normal standards, it was a bit unusual. However, if calculated within a military marriage, it seed normal.

When it ca to the issue of having children, the two of them never reached a consensus. To this straightforward man, the more kids, the better, even if she had to quit work. He thought having lots of kids was as easy as pulling out radishes, which was truly disgusting.

In her view, quality over quantity when it cos to children. One is best, and if that doesn’t work out, then two to make a good pair.

"Let’s not talk about how many first. At least give a chance to have one first, okay? Are you coming back this weekend? Should I pick you up?"

"You’re not busy?"

"No, no tasks for now."

"Alright, pick up on Friday then. I have Saturday off this week."

Doctors don’t have weekends, only shift swaps and rotations.

Even during holidays, shifts need to be swapped to get a break, like the three days of National Day she had swapped for by covering soone else’s shift back in September.

They didn’t dare chat more; after all, the military line couldn’t be occupied for too long. After hanging up, she returned to the dormitory.

In the eight-person dormitory, most residents were unmarried, with both nurses and junior doctors like her. Those more experienced and married female doctors usually lived at ho unless they ca from distant places and needed to use the dorms.

With different work hours, doctors and nurses didn’t share much common ground. She only returned to the dorm for sleep and laundry, spending most of her ti in departnts and the library, so conflicts were rare, and interactions were generally polite.

After all, there was mutual understanding of the hardship of working in shifts, with respect for each other. During the day, she’d quietly return without disturbing night-shift workers, while those on night shifts were cautious entering and leaving, all too exhausted to engage in scheming.

Overall, she was quite satisfied with dorm life, enjoying the harmonious interactions and occasionally treating everyone to fruit.

Of course, whenever they had anything tasty, they’d share with her.

Friday afternoon after work ca quickly. She packed a bit in the dorm, then dashed out with her duffel bag, imdiately spotting the jeep parked by the hospital roadside.

Her man had a cigarette between his fingers, hanging by the car window. Seeing her running over, he quickly snuffed it out and rolled down all four windows to air out the car.

As she got closer, he pulled her into his arms, and Ye Huan blushed and lightly punched him: "In public, what are you doing? Smoking again!"

"I’m a man. How can I not smoke? But I’ve cut down a lot. I used to smoke a pack a day, now I don’t even smoke a pack a month."

"Smoking’s bad for the lungs. Quit if you can."

He smirked, "Alright, our Ye Military Doctor has spoken; how could I not listen? Let’s go ho. I got so pork from a friend so we can make dumplings tomorrow."

He took her backpack, tossed it into the back seat, and closed the window. Didn’t need to open the door for her as she was already in the front passenger seat.

"This car... can I drive it?"

Tong Zhan glanced at her, amused by her eager expression.

"Won naturally have poor sense of direction. Better to just sit and let your dedicated driver handle it, isn’t that enough?"

"There aren’t many people on the road, let try! Plus, I think what you said is sexist against won. In this new society, how can you still think that way?"

Such prejudice against female drivers, his view deserved a good slap.

"No way, it’s a military vehicle. If you crash it, we’ll have to pay for it!"

"Pfft, can’t you say sothing nice? How could I possibly crash it? I’m an experienced driver,"

Oops, slipped the truth.

"Experienced driver? Ye Huan, what do you an? Can you drive?"

Ye Huan laughed, "During sumr training at Military dical University, I got to practice a bit, just never on the road. Really want to try! Once we’re out of the city, let have a go!"

Tong Zhan didn’t expect his wife had even had the chance to handle a military vehicle, quite surprised. But seeing her genuinely wanting to drive, he could only nod in agreent.
