"Linda." The na ca out urgent, almost desperate. "What happened to Linda?"

The panic hit him like a physical blow. How long had he been sitting here? How could he have been so absorbed in Lilith’s story that he’d forgotten...

He scrambled to his feet, ignoring the way his exhausted body protested the sudden movent.

"How could I forget about her?" The words ca out like self-accusation.

"She’s out there... alone with those feelings the system shoved into her. Hurt. Confused. Probably thinking I rejected her... or used her."

His hands were shaking now, fear and guilt crashing over him in waves.

"I’ve been sitting here God knows how long. Just sitting here while she could be..."

He moved toward the door, but Lilith’s hand caught his arm gently.

"Alex." Lilith’s voice was soft, calm, reassuring. "She’s fine."

"You don’t know that." His voice cracked slightly. "Your manipulation, the feelings you forced into her... what if they got worse? What if she..."

"She’s sleeping," Lilith said, and there was such certainty in her voice that Alex stopped, turning to look at her fully.

"What?" Confusion warred in his chest.

"Linda is in her bedroom," Lilith continued, her wine-dark eyes holding his with gentle reassurance. "Sleeping peacefully. Trust . "

So of the panic eased, but Alex’s chest was still tight with worry.

"But the manipulation," Alex said, his voice rough with sothing between guilt and anger. "The feelings she had for ... the feelings you pushed into her."

The accusation hung between them, sharp-edged despite his exhaustion.

"How am I supposed to correct that? Undo it? Make it right?"

His hands clenched into fists.

"What’s going to happen to her when she wakes up? What did we do to her?"

"It’s fading," Lilith interrupted gently. "Already fading. The supernatural influence I was forced to place on her emotions... it started dissipating the mont you pressed that button. The mont you refused."

Alex stared at her, desperately wanting to believe it but afraid to hope.

"It’s not affecting her anymore. When she wakes tomorrow morning, she’ll be herself again... no outside influence, no forced feelings. Just Linda."

Lilith’s expression softened slightly as she continued.

"She’ll rember fragnts of this whole ordeal, but they’ll feel like a bad dream... distant, unreal. Within a few days, she’ll barely rember if any of it really happened."

Lilith squeezed his arm reassuringly.

"You don’t need to worry about her. I’ll make sure the mories fade naturally. She won’t be hard in any way. She’ll be fine."

Her voice grew gentler.

"You saved her, Alex. By refusing. She’s safe now because of what you did."

Relief crashed through Alex so intensely it left him dizzy.

"Thank god," he breathed. "Thank god she’s okay."

All the fear, the panic, the desperate worry that had gripped him monts ago released in a rush that left him trembling.

Linda was safe. Sleeping peacefully. The manipulation was fading. She would wake up unhard.

And soon, everything will go back to normal for her.

David would have his wife back. Nina and Danny would have their mother. The family he’d fought so hard to protect would stay whole.

He sat there for a long mont, letting the panic drain away, replaced by bone-deep exhaustion and profound gratitude.

But there was sothing he needed to do before he left.

Alex stood up slowly, his body protesting the movent. "I need to see her," he said quietly.

"Just... I need to see with my own eyes that she’s okay."

Lilith nodded, understanding in her expression. "Of course."

Alex unlocked the bathroom door as quietly as he could, stepping out into the hallway.

The house was dark and silent now, the earlier sounds of family life settled into the stillness of deep night.

He moved carefully through the familiar space, his enhanced perception allowing him to navigate without making a sound.

Her bedroom door was slightly ajar.

Alex pushed it open gently, just enough to see inside.

The room was dark except for the faint glow of a nightlight.

In that soft light, Alex could see Linda alone in the bed, curled up on her side, her breathing deep and even.

But it wasn’t the peaceful sleep of soone resting.

It was the exhausted sleep of soone who’d finally collapsed after being pushed beyond their limits.

Her face held traces of tension even in unconsciousness... a slight furrow between her brows, the corners of her mouth turned down just barely.

She looked drained. Worn. Like she hadn’t truly slept in weeks.

Alex’s chest tightened with guilt.

The system had been manipulating her for how long? Days? Weeks? Pushing feelings into her that weren’t hers, amplifying emotions, creating attraction and confusion that must have torn her apart inside while she tried to maintain her normal life.

How many nights had she lain awake, wondering what was wrong with her? Why she felt drawn to her tenant? Why thoughts of him kept invading her mind no matter how hard she tried to push them away?

How much had she suffered in silence, too ashad to tell anyone, too confused to understand what was happening to her?

And he’d been oblivious. He’d been living his life while the system slowly destroyed her peace of mind for the sake of testing him.

Carefully, reverently, Alex leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead.

"I’m sorry," he whispered again. "For everything you were put through because of . For the confusion and the fear and the feelings that weren’t really yours."

His voice grew even softer.

"But you’re safe now. You and David and everyone. That’s what matters. That’s what it was all for."

He straightened, looking at her one last ti.

She would wake up tomorrow confused but unhard.

The supernatural influence would be gone. She could go back to her life... to her husband, her children, her normal routines... without the weight of manipulation crushing her.

She would be okay.

"Goodbye, Mom," he whispered.

The word settled sothing in his chest.

Not Linda. Not the woman he’d almost betrayed. Not the object of manufactured desire.

Mom.

That relationship... the real one, the one that mattered... was what he’d fought to preserve.

And now, with the manipulation gone, he could call her that again. Could reclaim what the system had tried to corrupt.
