Zhai Jinsheng’s affair caused quite a stir; many who knew him couldn’t believe he was a murderous demon.
But whether they believed it or not, the evidence of Zhai Jinsheng’s murders was irrefutable.
The scene of him killing Xiao Lian was exposed, and after a careful investigation by the police, substantial evidence was found. The mystery case of Xiao Lian was finally solved.
Twelve years had passed, and Xiao Lian’s parents finally received the truth, weeping in the police station. Later, they learned that another girl had been killed by Zhai Jinsheng, which made the couple feel both regret and sorrow.
Regarding Ah Chen’s situation, the police naturally could not disclose it to outsiders.
Zhai Jinsheng’s affair implicated quite a lot, but in general, this piece of the world, without Zhai Jinsheng and those protecting him, gradually returned to order and stabilized.
Qi Li, who narrowly escaped with his life, always felt his cousin was hiding sothing from him, but seeing his cousin’s deanor, it was impossible to tell him, so he let it go.
With the vacation coming to an end, Jiang Xiang, a freshman, had to return to school early to prepare for military training.
That evening, Jiang Yishi ca to his room door: "Brat, what do you think about Ling Qian’s affair?"
He wasn’t a local police officer, so naturally, he wasn’t involved.
But he had participated in the mysterious files before, and with his promotion, he had the authority to review them. After all these years, he thought it would never co up again.
From what he gathered, Ling Qian’s way of dealing with things after coming back to life was much like Jiang Ying back then, so he had to suspect that it might not really be them who ca back to life but perhaps soone else using so unknown power to control them. Maybe it had been discovered but couldn’t be captured.
In both cases, his son had conversed with the revived deceased and seed quite familiar with them. Although it no longer affected the cases, he was a bit curious.
Upon encountering the little girl Jiang Ying, he was certain Jiang Xiang didn’t know her.
Could they beco friends after just one brief encounter?
"Dad, why aren’t you sleeping at this late hour? Look at you, you’re not even that old, yet you have quite a bit of grey hair. When Mom returns, you two might look a generation apart," Jiang Xiang mocked. "Looking a generation apart would be fine; the fear is you’ll look like grandfather instead."
Jiang Yishi chuckled and cursed, but he didn’t mind. People age, especially those like him, who worry too much—it’s inevitable.
"Alright, sleep now, soon you’ll need to report to school."
He understood his son well; if the other party didn’t want to say, he wouldn’t speak.
Actually, it wasn’t sothing that must be known, so just leave it at that. Maybe one day, the truth will co to light?
Will the deceased return again?
As Jiang Yishi turned to leave, he hoped in his mind that the deceased could return, given that such matters could not be avoided.
"Xianmin, you ca back to your hotown so early this year?" A villager said while sitting in the back seat of Chang Xianmin’s car, glancing at the little girl beside him. "Linlin’s grown taller, quite a bit more than last year."
"Kids do grow fast," Gao Yuelan in the passenger seat chuckled. "Uncle Chen didn’t take a cab ho? It’s quite a distance from town to here."
"Indeed, it’s fortunate I returned just in ti to give you a lift," Chang Xianmin said.
The villager surnad Chen said, "There’s no market today, so the cars from the village aren’t running. It’s too cold for a motorcycle, I’m too old, can’t handle it. Hiring a car isn’t worth it. Anyway, I didn’t buy much, walking is warr."
Chang Xianmin detoured to drop the Chen villager near his ho before heading to his old house.
After thanking him, the Chen Family started discussing.
"Xianmin is doing well now, I wonder if Nie Xifeng will regret seeing it."
"She ran off with a man twenty years ago, no word since. She might have died out there."
"Maybe she’s living a good life now."
"If she were living well, wouldn’t she return in glory? She likes to show off, if things aren’t going well, she wouldn’t dare return."
"She left two kids behind, made up her mind not to co back. Not even her parents have heard from her."
"Back then, Chang Xianmin’s family was really poor. Xianmin was immature and indecisive. She just didn’t wait long enough. If she had waited a couple of more years, she’d be the one living a good life now."
"Nie Xifeng just wasn’t ant for prosperity."
"Xianmin is comndable for raising two kids alone, waited many years before marrying. Even after marrying again, he still visits those two kids at the Nie Family every year. Such a good person. Others say Nie Xifeng has no conscience, but he takes the bla, says it was his lack that made Nie Xifeng lose hope and leave. He never blad her for running off, such a good temper."
"Indeed, a good temper, no one like him in this area. Others who got rich live indulgently, but Chang Xianmin is still living honestly."
Back at the old house, unaware of the Chen Family’s discussion, Chang Xianmin parked the car and took the items down.
He said to his wife Gao Yuelan, "You rest a bit, I’ll handle the tidying."
"It’s alright, let’s do it together. We’ve been sitting in the car all the way, not tiring," Gao Yuelan smiled fully. Although her husband was much older than her, he was truly considerate.
Initially, she approached Chang Xianmin for his money, as usually, won wouldn’t consider n that much older. But he was genuinely a practical man, and how could she not be moved by soone so thoughtful.
She felt that even if Chang Xianmin didn’t have much money, many would still choose to be with him; he had that charm.
Though she didn’t stay in the village much, they returned to the old house every year for New Year.
The Chang Family elders hadn’t co back yet; Chang Xianmin, considerate for them, returned first to tidy up the old house, waiting for Chang Heng to bring the elders back.
Chang Heng was the son of Chang Xianmin and his runaway wife Nie Xifeng, and was twenty-six years old this year. They also had a daughter, twenty years old, studying at college elsewhere, expected to return later.
About Chang Xianmin’s previous wife, Gao Yuelan didn’t know much, only occasionally hearing villagers ntion her.
Chang Xianmin had told her before: it was his fault back then, not blaming Nie Xifeng. Yet, the fact remained that she left two children behind. Regardless, the children were her own, and she hadn’t co back all these years, good or bad.
It’s not heartlessness; perhaps she t with an accident outside.
Gao Yuelan shook her head, ceased further thoughts, told their daughter Chang Lin to play aside, and picked up cleaning tools to help tidy the old house.
Noticing the pigsty had collapsed, she went to check it out. As she wondered whether to find soone for repairs, she suddenly saw what seed like a hand bone in the mud under a slab, causing her eyelid to twitch involuntarily.
