As soon as dawn broke, soone rushed into the residence behind the County Governnt. They were people arranged by Yun Jing to stay close to Yun Tong. Familiar faces were quickly recognized, and upon understanding the situation, they were imdiately brought to Yun Jing.
Yun Jing was sitting in the courtyard. Seeing the hurried arrival of several nannies, her heart sank.
"Nanny Zhou, has sothing happened? Is Tong’er causing trouble again?" Yun Jing’s heart grew heavy, deeply regretting bringing Yun Tong out of the Capital City. At the ti, Tong’er couldn’t eat or sleep, worrying the family, and even her father permitted her to take Tong’er along.
Tong’er’s previous warning might indeed be true, but with last night’s incident, having that formidable younger sister-in-law here, Tong’er’s presence wouldn’t have changed much. Her dream was probably just a warning, not necessarily bound to happen.
Nanny Zhou cried out, "Miss, Second Miss is missing, kidnapped. Just last night, we were knocked unconscious, and when we awoke, it was already morning, and Second Miss was gone. After searching everywhere and finding no trace, I hurried over."
Clearly, Second Miss wasn’t at the County Governnt either.
After all, they had been knocked unconscious. How could Second Miss have been taken to the County Governnt?
Yun Jing’s body swayed unsteadily, almost collapsing. Truly at a loss, she didn’t know what to do. She had brought Tong’er here, how was she to explain this to her parents?
Sighing deeply, she imdiately stood up, "I am going to see my father-in-law."
She had so suspicion that Tong’er might have been caught by those black-clad accomplices, just because of that dream? Whether they could be found was uncertain, but for now, there was no other option.
Ah Chen and Shen Xuan erged from inside the house; they were about to seek out Lin Daming, having heard the commotion outside.
"Second Brother, Sister-in-law, Tong’er has been taken by soone unknown; I am going to see Father to see if she can be found," Yun Jing said as she gave them a quick nod, fearing that finding her after one night might be difficult.
Ah Chen and Shen Xuan didn’t intervene, guessing she had already been taken, to where, they had no idea.
To Ah Chen, Yun Tong’s circumstances were unimportant.
To Shen Xuan, it was the sa; the only issue was Tong’er disappearing in Lanru County, which would surely trouble his father.
He asked the system, [Brother Tong, can you locate the person?]
[Host, I am not omnipotent; how could I find them? Based on our current situation, it’s likely done by the accomplices of those black-clad people. Unless their master is questioned, Yun Tong’s whereabouts might remain elusive.] Speaking of which, being addressed as Brother Tong made the system quite happy—it has finally been acknowledged by the host.
Shen Xuan nodded, [Then, let’s see if Father’s subordinates can interrogate and find sothing out.]
At the butcher shop, Ah Chen was about to get hands-on with chopping at when Shen Xuan suddenly remarked, "Chenchen, let give it a try."
Lin Daming laughed upon hearing this, "Chopping bones isn’t child’s play."
Seeing the close bond between his daughter and son-in-law, making his daughter happy and content, Lin Daming was very pleased. As for his son-in-law’s lack of interest in reading and preference for amusent, he didn’t see it as an issue. Shen Xuan had no bad habits. Even if the Shen Family didn’t possess lots of silver, he had enough to support his daughter and son-in-law for a lifeti.
Truth be told, his mother had been quite wealthy, leaving him a large sum back then.
She even claid a share from the Marquis Mansion which he was entitled to, but what his mother left him was far more, including so rare treasures that he placed into Chenchen’s dowry. The rest remained hidden in their original place, a location he’s disclosed to Chenchen, serving as a fallback for her to retrieve if needed.
Years passed with him keeping a low profile, believing in the saying that wealth should not be exposed, as he himself wasn’t fond of extravagance.
It had been over a decade since Chenchen married, and he wondered how his mother was faring now, feeling a surge of concern.
With her martial skills and health, she should still be alive, perhaps having traveled far away.
"Father-in-law, just watch," Ah Chen said as she helped Shen Xuan tie on an apron, who then took the cleaver and began chopping, looking quite adept.
Custors buying bones in front of him bead with smiles, "I’m lucky indeed; the bones here are chopped by the County Magistrate’s second son himself!"
Acquainted with the custors by now, who ca by to buy at, Shen Xuan was well-received, known as soone easy to talk to, different from other official and wealthy family heirs, more approachable. The custors couldn’t help but admire, indeed the little son of the County Magistrate, even if he disregards study, his deanor is comndable.
Lin Daming, reassured, comnted, "Not bad at all."
"I’ve practiced martial arts with Father-in-law; chopping bones is no big deal," Shen Xuan replied, although he had limited talent in martial arts. Without the system boosting his attributes, his progress might have stayed stagnant until now.
"What brings you here so early?" Lin Daming inquired of Ah Chen.
Once everyone had left, Ah Chen leaned in and whispered, "There was an incident at the County Governnt last night..." She briefly explained the situation, leaving Lin Daming with a serious expression.
"Were you injured?"
Ah Chen laughed, "Of course not, Dad. You can rest assured now; I’m no longer soone you could defeat. These people work under the sa individual as Qu Shao, who works for the Second Aunt in cri."
Lin Daming’s face darkened; the situation with these two individuals unsettled him. It seed one must be apprehended for them to live in peace. Yet, the opponent was too mysterious, leaving him sowhat powerless.
"Dad, I need to go to the Capital City for a while. Stay at the County Governnt temporarily," Ah Chen said, "Make the most of the als there, and keep an eye on the situation to prevent anyone from exploiting it. I’ll be back shortly."
Knowing his daughter was more capable, and that this hidden threat needed removal for their peace, his heart filled with concern, Lin Daming didn’t object to her journey.
"Alright, your father will stay here and keep watch."
Even without his daughter’s suggestion, the County Governnt’s invitation would have been gladly accepted; he was quite willing to protect this in-law. Since their arrival, Lanru County had indeed improved. Though Lin Daming didn’t consider himself clever, he knew to do what was beneficial. Moreover, he found companionship with them, rare to find a friend with such rapport.
Having purchased the at, they followed Lin Daming ho for lunch, during which, Shen Xuan presented him with a piece of Protective Soft Armor. This armor was one of ten system rewards, and everyone close received one. If asked, he would say they were custom-ordered at high cost, as everyone knew he lacked neither silver nor resources, not with his grandfather’s wealth.
Lin Daming watched them leave and returned to his room, donning the armor, feeling quite pleased inside.
Upon returning to the County Governnt that afternoon, Yun Tong’s whereabouts remained unknown. Shen Dai’s deployed individuals had managed to extract so information, confirming Yun Tong was indeed kidnapped by their cohorts. However, where she had been taken remained elusive, leaving Shen Dai at a loss.
Yun Jing, though worried, understood it was a ss Yun Tong had brought upon herself. She could only pray for her safety; there was nothing else to be done.
The original plan remained unchanged, and on the scheduled day, Ah Chen and Shen Xuan accompanied Shen Heng to the Capital City.
