"Assistant Chen?" Ah Chen asked.
Chen Zhu felt a bit awkward; he never expected that in his first week at the Ji Family, he would encounter Miss Bai. Seeing her holding a thermos, he recalled the past.
Fortunately, he was seasoned in such encounters, and he quickly addressed her, "Miss Bai, President Ji is in a eting and should be out soon... Here he cos."
Coincidentally, Ji Wuyan had just finished his eting and heard Ah Chen had arrived. Without further ado, he hurried over. Seeing her indeed with a thermos, he rushed to her side and led her inside.
Chen Zhu watched their backs and thought silently; he would never get to enjoy such luxuries again.
He had just caught the scent of mushrooms, a truly delicious aroma, more fragrant than any soup he’d slled before.
"Assistant Chen? What’s up with you?" soone asked cautiously nearby, noticing his enraptured look.
"It’s nothing." Chen Zhu snapped out of it and quickly got back to work.
Workers shouldn’t overthink—just work hard. Competition at the Ji Family is fierce.
In the office, Ji Wuyan didn’t hurriedly sip the soup but instead embraced Ah Chen and kissed her cheek. He adored Chenchen so much that he wished he could hide her away, to be known only to him.
"What are you thinking?"
"Thinking of hiding you away from others," Ji Wuyan blurted out.
Ah Chen teased him, "Mr. Frog, have you turned to the dark side?"
"Just a thought, I wouldn’t dare." Ji Wuyan massaged his forehead, wondering why he had voiced his inner thoughts. But she asked, so he felt compelled to be truthful, not wanting to hide anything from her.
Ah Chen gestured for him to lower his head.
He bent down, and she wrapped her arms around his neck, gently kissing his lips, "I quite like this honest Mr. Frog."
Ji Wuyan, however, pulled her closer, deepening the kiss, as just one was not enough.
"Is there a problem with the Yu Family?" Ah Chen recalled seeing Chen Zhu before and realized she hadn’t followed the Yu Family’s situation lately.
Ji Wuyan said, "Yu Xiaoran’s arrest couldn’t be kept under wraps; the shareholders are divided, and rivals are lurking. Previously, Yu Xiaoran offended many, which led to them uniting against him. The Yu Family is in chaos, and Mr. Yu has been hospitalized twice, and by the ti he ca out, it was too late to stop it. And Yu Xianghui, his second son, secretly sold his shares."
"Currently, Yu Xiaoran still has three Bai Family mbers within him, so he won’t be released for a while."
They could have asked Chenchen for help, but she hadn’t brought it up, likely not in a hurry. Now that the situation is under control, they’re also not rushed.
"Oh," Ah Chen responded. She intentionally avoided ntioning this; Yu Xiaoran’s arrest would certainly throw the Yu Family into disarray.
It was deliberate.
In the client’s previous life, Yu Xiaoran couldn’t get Bai Ying and it involved her, making her live a life without freedom. Why should only the Bai Family suffer while Yu Xiaoran gets away scot-free?
She fully understood Xu Chang.
Just as she thought of Xu Chang, the phone rang—it was from her.
"Ms. Xu wants to et ," Ah Chen said. "Take your ti with the soup; I’ll be leaving now."
"I’ll walk you downstairs," Ji Wuyan said, reluctant to part even after such a brief ti.
When could they get married?
At the café, Ah Chen t Xu Chang.
Xu Chang got straight to the point: "Miss Bai, I want Lu Mingxue to learn a lesson," while handing over a card to Ah Chen, "Here’s three billion."
"Make him lose five years. Is that possible?" Xu Chang asked nervously, "Put Bai Suqiu in his body, make her lose her mory with him for five years."
It didn’t matter what Bai Suqiu did; she just wanted Lu Mingxue to feel her pain.
Ah Chen agreed, "Alright."
She had ant to settle accounts with Lu Mingxue for harming her.
"The price is only ten thousand," Ah Chen suggested.
Xu Chang, however, shook her head, "I think three billion is good; take it, so I can be at ease."
"Okay," Ah Chen did not refuse, knowing Xu Chang’s obsession ran deep.
"Soone ca to ; I told them my request, and they seed to know Miss Bai. They said if you agreed, they wouldn’t interfere," Xu Chang continued, confirming this Miss Bai was no ordinary person, even gaining the respect of those from the mysterious family.
The contact number they left for her was indeed useful, as expected. Lu Mingxue, having troubled Miss Bai, couldn’t simply wash his hands and be done—he must be dreaming!
"But it will take so ti," Ah Chen said, "I have other matters to handle first."
First, the Bai Family would face the trial of the Divine Stone before anything else. She wasn’t worried about the Divine Stone’s verdict; she’d intervene and anything could be negotiated.
"I can wait," Xu Chang smiled. After more than twenty years, a bit more ti was nothing.
Rembering sothing, she suddenly produced her phone, "Miss Bai, here’s a piece of news, it might be related to Miss Bai, and it seems important."
She had co across the news that morning and thought she should inform Bai Yan since she hadn’t noticed it yet.
Ah Chen glimpsed at it; it appeared to be about an old building’s demolition where a body was found from over twenty years ago.
"This place used to be a restaurant, and I rember ng Dingling worked there," Xu Chang said. She had researched Bai Huii’s past when she was involved with Lu Mingxue and learned about the situation.
"Thank you, Ms. Xu, I’ll look into it."
Leaving the café, Ah Chen pulled out her phone to call Ji Wuyan. His connections could make things easier, but he called first. She suspected it was related to the body found at the demolition.
Upon answering, Ji Wuyan indeed ntioned the matter.
"I’ve already arranged for soone to contact ng Dingling’s relatives; we’ll know the results soon."
Ah Chen replied, "Okay, let’s wait for the results. I was just reminded of this by Ms. Xu."
Five days later, the results ca in: it was indeed ng Dingling, and the perpetrator was apprehended.
Ah Chen was sitting in the living room waiting while Bai Huii was broadcasting from her studio.
After about two hours, Bai Huii erged, noticing Ah Chen not engaged with her phone in the living room, she asked, "Chenchen, what’s the matter?"
"Mom, there’s sothing to tell you."
Bai Huii’s heart sank; what could it be? Why did it feel like it wasn’t good news? She thought and thought but couldn’t pinpoint anything.
"Just tell , Chenchen," Bai Huii sat next to Ah Chen, "I’ve lived long enough to accept anything."
Ah Chen opened her phone and showed her the news article.
Bai Huii froze upon seeing the familiar location na.
Without needing further explanation from Ah Chen, her eyes reddened followed by tears cascading down.
"I just knew—he wouldn’t abandon intentionally."
She had never dared to think in that direction, preferring to believe he’d simply left suddenly, numbing herself against the reality, despite the police never finding him—many people in the world severed ties and disappeared elsewhere overnight.
She had been a timid person, afraid of the truth, preferring to believe he had just left.
But the truth remained the truth, always to be accepted.
"Who’s the killer?" Bai Huii asked. Though timid, she had searched through everyone she knew who knew him back then, seeing nothing amiss.
Perhaps her observation was poor, or the perpetrator hid perfectly.
"Another worker at the restaurant, nad Chen Qiang," Ah Chen inford. "Chen Qiang was resentful when ng Dingling was to beco the branch manager and wouldn’t lend him money, and it roused his murderous intent."
Tears stread down Bai Huii’s face, regretting not noticing Chen Qiang was problematic then.
Once Bai Huii regained her composure, Ah Chen took her to see ng Dingling one last ti, arranging his final matters.
Bai Huii mourned for so ti before gradually recovering; the deceased could only be rembered, while the living must move forward. Half her life had passed, and she had much left to do.
This morning, Lu Wangqiu woke and greeted Bai Ying excitedly, "Yingying, are you awake?"
"Lu Wangqiu, take to see Bai Chen," unexpectedly, Bai Ying’s voice was anxious, seemingly urgent.
She had regained her mory and would soon return to her body, having not physically touched any part of Bai Chen’s body—she grew increasingly apprehensive.
"Quickly, take to see Bai Chen."
There wasn’t much ti.
Only Bai Chen could alter everything.
