"Uncle! Thomas!"
Suzy lunged forward, reaching for them, but she was a second too late.
Leonard and Thomas had already lost consciousness. Their bodies crashed heavily to the floor. The dull thud struck her chest like a hamr.
Sothing was definitely wrong here.
What kind of substance could be so terrifyingly potent that it could knock out two grown n like Thomas and Leonard in re monts?
Shock rippled through Suzy. She imdiately covered her nose and staggered backward.
Even she could feel a wave of dizziness washing over her. Breathing beca increasingly difficult.
That was only because her body had been strengthened over ti by the spirit spring water. Otherwise, she would have collapsed instantly, just like Thomas and Leonard.
The dizziness intensified. Suzy braced herself against the wall, her fingers digging into the concrete. Every instinct scread at her to get out imdiately. But Thomas and Leonard were still down there. She couldn’t abandon them.
Her thoughts began to blur.
[Host, whatever you do, don’t pass out!]
At that mont, the system’s shrill voice exploded inside her mind.
It was rare to see the system this panicked. In fact, this was the first ti it had ever taken the initiative to warn her.
The sudden reminder snapped a sliver of clarity back into Suzy’s fading consciousness.
Without hesitation, she bit down hard on her lip.
Pain shot through her mouth as she tried to use it to drive away the strange dizziness. The tallic taste of blood spread across her tongue.
Remaining on high alert, she scanned her surroundings while pulling a bottle of spirit spring water from her storage space. She tipped her head back and gulped it down.
The mont the water slid into her stomach, her mind cleared noticeably.
A spark of excitent flashed through her. The spirit spring water worked against whatever this strange substance was.
She quickly drained the rest of the bottle.
"Suzy, I never expected you to have a storage space too."
A cold, sinister voice suddenly drifted up from below.
Suzy froze.
Looking down, she saw Wendy’s twisted, malicious face.
Without a word, she hurled the empty bottle at her.
"I knew it was you!"
Living in the sa building and possessing sothing with such overwhelming effects, there was only one person Suzy could think of.
Wendy.
As expected, she had been lying in wait for them all along.
Wendy calmly sidestepped the bottle and sneered.
"Suzy, I’ve seriously underestimated you."
Step by step, she climbed the stairs, drawing closer. A bitter laugh escaped her lips.
"No wonder you’ve been living so comfortably during the apocalypse. So you’ve got a storage space too. Suzy, you’re really sothing."
The words were practically ground out through clenched teeth. Had she not seen it with her own eyes, she never would have believed it.
No wonder this sickly, fragile woman had not only survived the apocalypse unscathed but had grown healthier and more radiant with each passing day.
A storage space. That had to be the reason.
Then a thought suddenly struck her. Her eyes widened.
"That’s right!" She practically shrieked. "The inheritance your mother left you. All that money! Did you use it to stockpile supplies?"
Greed instantly ignited in her eyes, so intense it nearly spilled over.
"I knew it! I knew it!"
Wendy burst into hysterical laughter. At last, everything made sense. Every strange thing about Suzy suddenly clicked into place.
The storage space. Her unusual behavior. The fortune worth hundreds of millions that should have fallen into Wendy’s hands before the apocalypse. The pieces connected one after another until the truth beca impossible to ignore.
Suzy knew sothing. She had known it all along. Maybe she had even known the apocalypse was coming before it happened.
But how?
There were only two possibilities. Either she was a transmigrator, just like Wendy.
Or... She was soone who had been reborn.
This woman had hidden herself far too well.
Wendy stared at her with narrowed eyes.
"Suzy... you’re a reborn survivor, aren’t you?"
Wendy stared fixedly at Suzy, her eyes blazing with hatred. Her expression twisted into sothing grotesque, like a vengeful spirit clawing its way out of hell, as though she wanted nothing more than to tear Suzy apart piece by piece.
Suzy t her gaze without the slightest change in expression.
"What if I am?"
The dream that had shown her the future was, in many ways, no different from being reborn.
At this point, she had no intention of hiding it anymore. As things stood, only one of them would be walking away alive today.
The only question was whether her technology could overco Wendy’s absurd, heaven-defying protagonist luck.
Without drawing attention to it, Suzy slipped a handgun out of her storage space and concealed it behind her back.
"So it really is true... it really is true!" Wendy practically spat through clenched teeth. "I knew sothing was wrong. You’ve changed too much. So you’ve been reborn!"
She had calculated countless possibilities, yet sohow this possibility had never crossed her mind.
Still, none of that mattered anymore.
The savage look on Wendy’s face gradually smoothed into calmness.
Because Suzy was about to die. Once she was dead, nothing else would matter. Even Suzy’s storage space would beco hers.
The thought sent a thrill through Wendy’s body. Excitent made her tremble as she tightened her grip on the long blade in her hand and slowly climbed the stairs toward Suzy.
"You’ve been pretty good at hiding, Suzy. Do you know how long I’ve been waiting here for you?"
With the system’s assistance, the injuries Wendy had suffered when Vanessa stabbed both her legs had almost completely healed.
She had spent points to exchange for dicine. After applying it, her wounds had practically vanished overnight. The rest of her points had gone toward obtaining two crucial items: a new weapon and a powerful incense.
The strange fragrance lingering in the air was that very incense. Its effects were terrifying enough to knock out two grown n almost instantly.
As for the weapon in her hand, it had been coated with poison. One scratch was all it would take. If she wounded Suzy, death would be inevitable.
Ard with those two advantages, Wendy had been convinced victory was already hers.
So she waited.
And waited.
Until now.
Her plan had always been simple: ambush Suzy along a route she had no choice but to take. Use the incense to incapacitate her. Then kill her with the poisoned blade.
Clean. Simple. Final.
The first step hadn’t gone entirely as planned. For so reason, Suzy hadn’t collapsed. But that didn’t matter. As long as the poisoned blade drew blood, Wendy would still win.
A crazed glint flashed through her eyes. Suddenly, she lunged forward, picking up speed.
"Suzy, today is the day you die!"
That bitch had stolen far too much from her. The storage space that should have belonged to her. The fortune worth hundreds of millions that should have been hers. Thomas and Leonard.
All of it should have been hers.
Once Suzy died, everything would return to its rightful owner.
Which was why she had to die.
Laughing wildly, Wendy charged up the stairs with the knife raised high.
To anyone watching, she looked genuinely terrifying. But Suzy had been prepared. She imdiately retreated, widening the distance between them.
At the sa ti, she flicked off the handgun’s safety and aid directly at Wendy.
"If one of us is dying today," Suzy said coldly, "I think it’ll be you."
The dark barrel pointed squarely at Wendy’s face. Without hesitation, Suzy pulled the trigger.
In that instant, she clearly saw the shock explode across Wendy’s features. Wendy hadn’t expected her to suddenly produce a handgun.
Surprised? You should be.
But the next second, the shock vanished from Wendy’s face. Instead, it appeared on Suzy’s.
A mocking smile curled across Wendy’s lips.
"Suzy, are you serious?" she sneered. "Who exactly are you trying to scare with a fake toy gun?"
Suzy froze. Then, she pulled the trigger again... But nothing happened.
No shot. No recoil. No sound.
The handgun in her hand seed completely dead.
Suzy stared at it in disbelief.
Seriously? Could her luck really be this terrible?
