Evelyn looked at Lily Thorne in confusion, not quite understanding what "sothing that must never be known by outsiders" she was referring to.
Why does it feel like The Lockwood Family is shrouded in mystery, as if there are many secrets?
Lily’s brow furrowed as she continued to ask, "You don’t know?"
"What are you talking about?" Evelyn asked tentatively.
Lily scrutinized Evelyn up and down, a deep emotion flashed in her eyes, and then she said, "I know you’re not so noble lady from a prestigious family, but at least you should not resign yourself to diocrity, right?"
Evelyn was startled, unsure of what Lily ant by saying this.
"Like Shannon Dunn, she doesn’t have a distinguished background either, but through her own efforts, she has made herself rather extraordinary." Lily spoke in an admiring tone.
After a pause, she continued, "And you, already being Mrs. Lockwood, should conduct yourself according to her standards."
"..."
"Even though Auntie cooks at ho, since you don’t have other things to do, you should personally make so of his favorite dishes for Caden." Lily’s tone was lecturing, "When Caden takes you out to parties, you should make more of an impact. You can discuss a lot of business at parties, and your role is to make friends with those society wives. Sotis, a wife’s pillow whispers can help seal a major deal."
Evelyn stared wide-eyed in disbelief.
Lily reevaluated Evelyn, shaking her head, "And your attire, it can’t be so casual anymore."
"..."
"Your every word and action represents The Lockwood Family. From today on, you should at least dress appropriately, and high heels are a must." Lily said.
Upon hearing this, the corners of Evelyn’s mouth awkwardly twitched.
High heels?
She truly couldn’t wear them!
"n in social situations might interact with quite a few won, and even if other won have children, you must be prepared to beco a stepmother and maintain the family’s image at all tis."
Lily looked at Evelyn and asked very slowly, "Can you manage all this?"
"I’m sorry." Evelyn shook her head and softly replied, "I can’t."
Seeing Lily’s face suddenly darken, Evelyn’s little finger continued to twirl around her hair, her heart rising to her throat.
"Caden and I are both human; I’m able to remain faithful without straying. As my husband, shouldn’t he do the sa?" Evelyn seriously questioned.
"Naive!" Lily coldly replied with two words, "Do you think there’s a cat in the world that doesn’t stray?"
Evelyn remained silent, although Lily hadn’t outright said she was unsuitable to stay beside Caden Lockwood.
However, Lily’s words had already implied it.
The corners of Evelyn’s lips curled into a faint, bitter smile.
She took a deep breath as the sense of desolation in her heart grew stronger.
Caden’s father favored Eleanor Keaton.
Caden’s mother favored Shannon Dunn.
Thinking about it, Evelyn truly had no place beside Caden.
"Mom!" Caden’s voice finally rang out.
Evelyn’s eyes flickered with joy, she looked up, then her gaze returned to a state of lifelessness.
Even if he’s here, what does it change?
"Why didn’t you inform beforehand when you ca to see Evelyn?" Caden sat beside Evelyn, raised his hand, and pulled her into his embrace.
Looking at Lily, he asked, "What have you been talking about?" His tone was filled with an undeniable tension and anxiousness.
