Evelyn waited for quite so ti, but no pain fell upon her face.
The venue was so silent that one could hear the breathing of those nearby, making everyone involuntarily tense.
In the unknown and unresolved situation, Evelyn felt even more scared. She slightly opened her eyes and what she saw was Caden Lockwood’s cold, dark handso face.
His arm raised, grasping Mr. Clayton’s wrist, preventing the slap from landing.
"Mr. Lockwood?" Mr. Clayton lowered his dark gaze, "What do you an by this?"
"My wife and this lady who makes cakes clearly cannot be discussed separately." Caden Lockwood’s tone was calm and unruffled.
"Mr. Lockwood!" Shannon Dunn was anxious, "You..."
Caden Lockwood raised another hand, signaling Shannon Dunn to shut up.
Evelyn was so scared that she shrunk back, her back felt cool.
With Caden Lockwood present, she naturally felt timid and worried about not doing well.
Caden Lockwood released his grip on Mr. Clayton’s hand, scanned Hannah Clayton, then said coldly: "I have a general understanding of what happened between you and my wife at the venue."
After a pause, he continued: "You two argued over a piece of cake, and you said quite a bit of disrespectful words towards my wife. You lost at chess, refused to acknowledge it, and instead continued to make a scene, which led to being hit. That was brought upon yourself; it does not deserve any pity."
"I never disrespected your wife!" Hannah Clayton was too scared to look at Caden Lockwood, "You have no evidence, don’t slander !"
"Evidence?" The curve of Caden Lockwood’s lips deepened, his handso face was clear and cold, "There’s surveillance in the venue, everything you said and did can be seen. A daughter educated by The Clayton Family, who does not admit her mistakes and still needs to be defended, makes very suspicious of what kind of quality parents can educate such a daughter."
"Mr. Lockwood..."
Caden Lockwood lowered his eyes and lightly parted his thin lips: "From today onwards, I will refuse any business dealings with The Clayton Family. Security, bring up the surveillance, and please have a lip reader translate Miss Hannah Clayton’s disrespectful words to my wife, I want to sue Miss Hannah Clayton for the reputational damage caused to my wife."
As his words fell, Caden Lockwood pulled Evelyn into his arms.
He tidied up her slightly ssy strands of hair and asked softly, "Were you scared? Next ti you encounter this kind of situation, don’t waste ti, just hit directly, after you’re done, I will take care of it."
His voice was loud, indulgent, and unrestrained with a very clear attitude of protecting his own.
Listening to Caden Lockwood’s words, Evelyn’s breath caught.
She opened her mouth but couldn’t utter a single syllable, her amber eyes reflected his small image.
He was so serious, he didn’t seem to be joking at all.
Everyone stared at Caden Lockwood in shock.
No one had expected that the cold, arrogant, and daunting man would handle matters concerning his wife with such indulgence.
At this mont, a hurried male voice sounded: "Madam! What happened here!"
The speaker was the host of the banquet, Mr. Jassion.
Mr. Jassion walked over to the cake lady, looked her up and down, then asked: "Why haven’t you gone to change your dress? Why is everyone gathered here? Did sothing happen?"
This was Mr. Jassion’s first ti attending with his wife.
Seeing this situation, everyone had already understood — this seemingly ordinary cake lady was actually Mr. Jassion’s wife!
"Nothing major," the cake lady said softly, "just soone thought I was a re nial worker with low status and could be bullied."
Mr. Jassion’s gaze darkened, surrounded by brimful anger, he coldly stated: "Who dares bully my wife?"
