Evelyn didn’t answer Caden Lockwood’s words, but it was obvious she had decided to go to the appointnt.
The two remained silent, listening to each other’s breathing through the receiver, neither hanging up the phone.
After a long, long ti, just when Evelyn thought Caden had fallen asleep, he suddenly spoke, "Are you still coughing? The high fever should have subsided, right? Feeling any better?"
"You know everything, yet you’re unwilling to co back." Evelyn mumbled in response.
Hearing the strong resentnt in Evelyn’s tone, Caden fell silent again.
Evelyn took a deep breath, "Then... see you at eight tonight!"
Whatever happens, she needed him to give her a straightforward answer.
She had made up her mind; after returning the bracelet to Logan Shaw, she would head to Southwood early to see what Caden intended to do.
"Silly." Caden said gently, "Don’t co too early, I have a dinner appointnt tonight."
"It’s already a miracle that I’m willing to go, how could I go too early!" Evelyn said loudly, feeling guilty. "Who do you think you are? It’s really funny! It’s you who should be late; I’ll be late! I have a dinner appointnt too! A super exciting dinner!"
Saying that, Evelyn pressed the hang-up button.
She took big gulps of air, her ears turning red with embarrassnt.
Damn it!
How did Caden know she wanted to go early?
Does he have the Mind Reading Technique?
Or is he just so capable that he can handle her so effortlessly?
When did she give him such high confidence?
Evelyn was annoyed, looking at the phone screen that had turned black, yet unconsciously she smiled.
"How nice!" she murmured softly, "Finally, we’re going to et!"
Thinking of it, Evelyn’s eyes brightened, and she walked to the dressing room that Caden had prepared for her, looking through the dresses and trying them on, one by one.
Aunt May stood at the doorway, watching Evelyn tirelessly change dresses, and couldn’t help but ask in confusion, "Young Madam, do you have an important date?"
"Yes!" Evelyn responded happily.
"A date... does it an you have to look really nice?" Aunt May probed hesitantly, "Why not stay ho? The young master might return today, you know?"
Standing in front of the mirror, Evelyn checked her reflection from all angles but didn’t intend to tell Aunt May that she was actually going to et Caden.
"If he cos back, so be it!" Evelyn winked at Aunt May, "Maybe I might even co back with him!"
"Young Madam." Worry was written all over Aunt May’s face, "Are you going to et a man? Although I trust your character, if the young master finds out, he might feel a bit..."
"Aunt May." Evelyn fixed her gaze, "Don’t you think you’re a bit overly loyal to that newly erged young master? I’m the one who grew up with you! You seem to support him over every day!"
"Alright, alright!" Aunt May said, conceding, "Young Madam, that white dress suits you very well, you should wear that one!"
Saying this, Aunt May walked to the kitchen to make dinner.
Evelyn couldn’t help but laugh softly and murmured, "Silly Aunt May! Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to bring that proud young master back tonight."
Changing into the white dress, Evelyn spent a long while in front of the mirror, nodding in satisfaction, running around the room, feeling as happy as a little bird that just learned to fly.
As night fell, Evelyn left early to et Logan Shaw.
She wanted to quickly resolve things with Logan so she could rush to et Caden.
So what if she arrives early!
She might as well treat it like a walk!
Besides, the scenery in Southwood is rather nice!
Evelyn humd a cheerful tune, and while on the way, her phone rang. Unexpectedly, it was L calling.
Evelyn was greatly surprised. L had always communicated with her through text ssages, never revealing any of his identity, and now he was calling her actively?
