Chapter 240: Law of Withering
As soon as the words fell, the scene of the alley's corner from a second ago quickly faded away in the next.
In just a few breaths, a vast grayish-white world with no visible end abruptly unfolded before Earl-Bloodred’s eyes.
“This can’t be.”
Looking at the unfamiliar surroundings and realizing a possibility, the originally arrogant expression on Earl-Bloodred’s face instantly vanished, replaced by disbelief—and fear of the unknown environnt.
“Whoosh—”
When fear finally overca his lust for Janna’s beauty, Earl-Bloodred, risking damage to his essence, imdiately used Bloodflesh Magic to completely heal the wounds that had been blasted beyond recognition.
Next, the shadows spread. Under the thick darkness, Earl-Bloodred's hands turned into shadow blades as he rapidly flapped the bat wings on his back,
and charged toward Janna with an overwhelming killing intent.
“Crack—”
Just like the first ti, as the shadow blade pierced into Janna’s chest, her body shattered inch by inch like a mirror and vanished on the spot.
“Damn it!”
Earl-Bloodred’s thoughts were simple: as long as he could control Janna, all the unknown issues would naturally be resolved.
However, looking at the eerily gray world around him, where he could no longer sense Janna’s presence at all, Earl-Bloodred's emotions grew increasingly agitated.
“How did you know the Youth Necklace was on ?”
Janna’s figure appeared again, and this ti, Earl-Bloodred—unable to tell whether it was an illusion or not—did not rush to attack, but stared straight at her with a mocking smile.
“It was mine to begin with. I want it back. What’s the problem? I’m giving you one last chance. Answer my question.”
“Courting death!”
Enraged and humiliated, Earl-Bloodred still refused to answer Janna’s question and once again unleashed Shadow Magic, shattering the second mirror illusion.
“Damn it, another illusion.”
After repeatedly falling for it, Earl-Bloodred began to realize what was happening.
This seemingly not-so-powerful Second-Tier Witch Apprentice was actually playing the fool to catch the tiger.
Ever since she saw through Earl-Bloodred’s disguise, all of his attacks had been led by Janna, leaving him with no initiative at all.
Janna’s constant “retreat” and “feigned weakness” were all part of luring Earl-Bloodred into a trap she had ticulously set up, with the purpose of interrogating him about the Youth Necklace.
“Rumble—”
Just as Earl-Bloodred was still searching for Janna’s trace, a sudden clap of thunder echoed across the sky.
“This is—”
Dark clouds thickened, and thunder roared. Staring at the giant vortex forming in the sky, Earl-Bloodred's eyes were quickly overtaken by fear.
A space storm!?
“Answer my question, or you’ll stay here forever—”
“I’ll talk!”
Earl-Bloodred, whose ntal defenses were on the verge of collapse, imdiately yielded the mont he heard Janna’s voice, as if clinging to a life-saving rope.
“There’s a human blood thrall of mine in the Mizawa Auction House. He told —”
“What’s his na?”
“Cliff—but he’s already dead.”
Upon hearing this, Janna, hidden behind the mirror illusion, narrowed her eyes slightly.
“What exactly is in the Youth Necklace? Why do you want it?”
When she asked this, Janna clearly saw the struggle on Earl-Bloodred’s face.
“Unless you let go, I won’t tell you—”
“You’re in no position to bargain with .”
Rumble—
In response to Earl-Bloodred ca not just Janna’s icy words, but also the increasingly terrifying thunder and lightning in the sky.
As the standoff continued, Janna calmly counted in her mind.
Five, four, three, two—
Before she could reach one, Earl-Bloodred, utterly consud by the fear of death, finally chose to surrender.
“All I know is that this necklace contains a power that grants immortality… but I don’t know the details—”
Immortality?
Hearing Earl-Bloodred’s response, Janna furrowed her brows.
Because she knew that there was no such thing as “power of immortality” in the Youth Necklace. There was only a Growth Law Fragnt.
“Besides you, does anyone else know—”
Rumble—
This ti, Earl-Bloodred didn’t even get the chance to respond. The fearso storm transford into the sharpest space blade, slicing his body into pieces, leaving only a pool of blood behind.
“Silver Mirror, capture his soul.”
“As you command. (smile)”
As a bystander to this space storm, Janna felt little at Earl-Bloodred’s death.
However, she did feel a hint of regret over the final question she didn’t get to ask.
“Master, only this much was captured.”
“It’s fine. This much is enough.”
Looking at the soul fla hovering over the mirror surface, Janna, who hadn’t expected much, imdiately began casting the mory Read spell.
“So the necklace really was his—”
Through fragnted mory captured from the remaining soul fla, Janna saw only a few scattered pieces of information.
But from interpreting those pieces, she discovered that the Youth Necklace she had purchased at the Mizawa Auction House had actually been pawned by Earl-Bloodred.
At the ti of pawning, he had only been a fallen noble from the lower city who had not yet received the first embrace.
Because he was still human then and didn’t have the Plant Affinity talent, he had not noticed anything unusual about the Youth Necklace.
Until by chance, after becoming a vampire, Earl-Bloodred realized the extraordinary nature of the Youth Necklace while offering devotion to the Dark Sun through so unknown channel.
However, how exactly he discovered this, Janna could not find in his remaining mories.
“To think this vampire’s faith in the Dark Sun Church was so devout—”
When the Celestial Sparrow detected the Dark Sun pollution on Earl-Bloodred, Janna had already guessed his identity as a Dark Sun follower.
What surprised Janna was that this vampire had begun worshipping the Dark Sun even during his ti as a human.
“Buzz—”
Just as Janna was about to continue probing Earl-Bloodred’s soul fla, her body suddenly froze in place as if petrified by a Stone Curse.
“Am I dreaming again?”
Clearly standing in the Mirror Realm just a mont ago, Janna’s consciousness now sank into an endless forest sea, once again observing through the perspective of a giant tree.
“Euphresia, Growth is only your most basic understanding of nature. Withering is rely the other face of life—”
