Xuanzi was surprised by Xu Sanshi's words. He had anticipated that ntioning Jiang Nannan's suitors would make Xu Sanshi more cooperative perhaps even prompt him to reveal more about other spies.
But to swear loyalty and call him godfather?
That was… excessive.
To be honest, Xuanzi had never considered taking a traitor as his godson.
In Shrek Academy's long history, the most famous godfather godson relationship had been between Yu Xiaogang and Tang San. Their bond had started as teacher and student before evolving into a familial connection.
According to Shrek Academy's official records, Tang San had acknowledged Yu Xiaogang as his godfather out of deep gratitude because Yu Xiaogang had provided him with invaluable guidance and support, becoming as important as a real father.
But what about Xu Sanshi?
Could he possibly see Xuanzi as a father figure?
Unlikely.
Which ant there had to be an ulterior motive behind his sudden pledge of loyalty.
Xuanzi's gaze darkened.
Was Xu Sanshi just trying to win his trust, escape this prison, and then stab him in the back?
Xu Sanshi, still kneeling, watched the changes in Xuanzi's expression.
His heart pounded.
Was Xuanzi considering it?
For Xu Sanshi, pledging loyalty was just a ans to an end. If it got him out of this godforsaken cell, so be it.
All he wanted was to see Jiang Nannan again to protect her and keep her from being taken by another man.
Xuanzi's claim that many students were pursuing Jiang Nannan seed highly credible.
After all, she was beautiful.
And with him locked away, unable to protect her, it was only natural that other n would try to win her over.
He couldn't allow that.
Even if it ant swearing false loyalty, he would get out of here.
Once free, he could find a way to contact Elder Mu and expose Xuanzi's corruption.
Even if it ant earning a reputation as a traitor to his "godfather", he had to bring Xuanzi to justice.
Because evil must be punished!
Xuanzi sneered.
"Xu Sanshi, I have zero interest in taking you as my godson.
But… if you provide with more information on the traitors, I can visit you regularly and bring you news of Jiang Nannan.
I might even drive away her suitors for you."
Xu Sanshi froze.
Still no chance of release?
Disappointing.
But the offer was tempting.
If Xuanzi truly drove away Jiang Nannan's suitors, that would be a huge relief.
But… could he be trusted?
Xuanzi could easily feed him fake information every few days, claiming he had scared off Nannan's admirers, when in reality, she might be getting courted as they spoke.
Xu Sanshi hardened his resolve.
"Elder Xuan, I am sincere!
I genuinely wish to serve under you, to atone for my mistakes, and to dedicate my future to your cause.
As for Jiang Nannan… she is nothing but a distraction from my true purpose."
Even as he spoke, he didn't believe his own words.
But he kept a straight face.
He needed to convince Xuanzi that he had abandoned all personal ties in favor of absolute loyalty.
Xuanzi snorted.
He could see through the act.
But instead of responding, he unlocked the cell and pulled out a set of torture instrunts, dropping them onto the floor with a loud clatter.
Many of them were stained with dried blood, and the strong scent of iron filled the air.
Then, Xuanzi lit a furnace, placed a branding iron inside, and heated it until it glowed red hot.
Lifting the scorching tal, he turned to Xu Sanshi with an icy gaze.
"Shrek Academy has an old saying," he said slowly.
'The wise adapt to the tis.'
"You will cooperate, one way or another."
Xu Sanshi broke into a cold sweat.
Not again.
They were really going to torture him again?!
He stared at the red hot brand, his imagination already filling in the excruciating pain that awaited him.
Instinctively, he gulped.
"Elder Xuan please, let's talk this through!"
If Xuanzi truly intended to use all of these tools on him, he might not survive.
And if he died here… he'd never see Jiang Nannan or his family again.
Xuanzi's voice was calm.
"Start talking."
Xu Sanshi clenched his teeth.
If he had to throw soone else under the bus to save himself, so be it.
"I accuse Dean Cai!" he declared.
"Her misjudgnt of both teams' strengths and a series of poor decisions led to Shrek Academy's failure in the tournant!
She and Vice Dean Yan conspired together both are traitors, working against Shrek's best interests!"
Xuanzi's eyes narrowed.
"Accusations an nothing without proof."
Xu Sanshi pressed on.
"Investigate her yourself! You'll find evidence, I'm sure of it!"
Deep down, he knew there was no real proof.
But he didn't care.
All he cared about was getting out of this hellhole and reuniting with Jiang Nannan.
Even if it ant lying about Dean Cai, so be it.
For a brief mont, he felt a pang of guilt.
But he quickly buried it.
Xuanzi's face darkened.
While uncertain, he believed in the philosophy of 'better safe than sorry'.
He added Cai i'er to his watchlist.
But for now, his main priority was still Yan Shaozhe.
A Few Days Later
Shrek Academy – Sea God's Pavilion
Elder Song gathered Bei Bei, Wang Dong, Xiao Xiao, Zhang Lexuan, and He Caitou.
Now that their intelligence gathering was complete, the Sea God's Pavilion was holding a final eting to discuss the rescue operation.
Even though they already had a plan a dual approach, with one team creating a diversion while another carried out the extraction there were still crucial details to finalize.
More importantly, they needed backup plans in case things went wrong.
Because once the mission began…
Failure was not an option.
