As they reached the empress's door, Lucas slowed his steps and turned slightly toward Tom, his voice calm but firm as he told him to remain outside and keep watch, explaining that whatever was happening within the chamber required silence and privacy, and Tom accepted this without question, bowing once before stepping back to his post.

Lucas pushed the door open and stepped inside with the ice belle floating quietly at his side, and the mont he crossed the threshold, the change in the air struck him like a physical weight pressing down on his chest and lungs at the sa ti, forcing him to draw a sharp breath as his instincts scread that the presence before him was no longer sothing that belonged fully to the mortal world.

The empress was still seated at the very center of the chamber, exactly where he had left her days ago, but she was no longer the sa existence that had entered cultivation in desperation and hope, because now her body was faintly luminous, her skin glowing with an ethereal sheen as if light itself was seeping through her flesh, while strands of celestial essence coiled around her like slow moving currents of invisible fla, dense and oppressive enough that Lucas felt his knees weaken as he took another step forward.

"So she has not fully crossed yet," Lucas murmured under his breath, his voice barely carrying in the heavy stillness of the room, his cultivator senses screaming warnings as every breath felt harder than the last, as though the air itself was being claid and dominated by her presence.

The empress slowly opened her eyes, and when she looked at him, Lucas felt his heart pound violently in his chest, because there was sothing vast and distant in her gaze now, sothing ancient and cold and boundless, yet still restrained by sheer will alone, and when she spoke, her voice carried a resonance that seed to echo within his bones rather than his ears.

"You should not be standing so close," she said softly, though there was no reprimand in her tone, only awareness. "My essence is unstable, and it is pressing outward without rcy."

Lucas forced himself to straighten despite the suffocating pressure, his breathing uneven but controlled through discipline alone. "I had to see it for myself. You have changed far more than I imagined."

A faint, restrained smile curved her lips. "I am standing at the threshold, Xavier. One more step forward, and I will no longer belong to this world in the sa way."

Beside him, the ice belle hovered innocently, her large eyes wandering across the chamber with open curiosity, tilting her head as she studied the swirling energies without fear or discomfort, completely unaffected by the crushing celestial pressure that was threatening to overwhelm even Lucas.

She tugged lightly at his sleeve and whispered, "Why is the air so good here?"

Lucas nearly laughed despite the situation, the sound catching in his throat as he glanced down at her, then back at the empress with a mix of disbelief and awe. "She feels no pressure ," he said quietly. "Your essence does not suffocate her at all."

The empress's gaze shifted to the ice belle, and for the first ti since he had entered, the pressure in the room subtly shifted, as though her curiosity montarily overrode her focus. "She exists closer to purity than mortals do, which is why my presence does not burden her."

The ice belle blinked at her, offering a small wave. "You shine a lot," she said plainly, as though comnting on the weather.

For a brief mont, the empress actually laughed, a soft sound that caused the violent celestial essence to calm slightly, though the room was still thick with power. "Even now," she said, her voice regaining composure, "I am reminded that there are existences untouched by fear or ambition."

Lucas swallowed hard, feeling the pressure tighten again as her attention returned inward. "You are close," he said quietly, his voice filled with respect and concern. "Faster than anyone has ever been."

"Yes," she replied, closing her eyes once more as the celestial essence surged again, more violent than before. "And until I cross that final boundary, no one should linger here for long."

Lucas nodded, understanding imdiately, even as his lungs burned and his head swam under the weight of her presence. He gently guided the ice belle back toward the door, her eyes still wide with wonder, and as he stepped away, he felt the pressure ease just enough for him to breathe again, leaving him with the undeniable certainty that when the empress finally transcended, the world itself would feel the tremor of her ascension.

When they returned to Lucas's chamber, the oppressive pressure of the empress's presence finally faded completely, replaced by the familiar calm of his own space, and Tom closed the door behind them before turning to face Lucas with an expression that was far more serious than usual, his hands clasped tightly in front of him as though he had already made a decision and was gathering the courage to speak it aloud.

"My lord," Tom began after a brief silence, his voice steady but carrying a weight that Lucas could not ignore, "I have been thinking about the coming battles, and I wish to serve you on the field."

Lucas paused mid step and slowly turned toward him, studying the young squire carefully as the ice belle drifted toward the bed and curled up on the pillow, already losing interest in the conversation and humming softly to herself, and when Lucas spoke, his tone was calm but unmistakably firm.

"No," he said plainly, shaking his head once. "That will not happen."

Tom stiffened slightly, clearly having expected resistance but not such an imdiate refusal, and he straightened his back as he continued, his eyes filled with resolve. "I know I am not a cultivator, but I have trained, and I am not afraid of death. If you are going to the front where the fighting is fiercest, then I should be there too."

Lucas walked closer to him and placed a hand on his shoulder, the gesture carrying reassurance rather than authority, and he spoke with a quiet certainty that left no room for argunt. "Courage alone is not enough in a battlefield like the one we are about to face. The enemies we will encounter will not hesitate, and they will not show rcy. I will be moving through places where even powerful cultivators may fall, and I will not have you standing where a single stray technique could end your life."

Tom lowered his gaze but did not pull away, his voice softer now but still resolute. "Then what use am I, my lord, if I am not beside you when it matters most?"

Lucas smiled faintly and tightened his grip on Tom's shoulder, his eyes steady as he answered. "You will be of far greater use alive than dead. I need you in my tent, organizing supplies, preparing my equipnt, keeping track of ssages, and making sure that when I return from battle, wounded or exhausted, there is order instead of chaos waiting for ."

Tom looked up, surprised, and Lucas continued before he could object again. "A commander who cannot rely on what happens behind the lines will eventually fall, no matter how strong he is. I trust you with that responsibility, and that is not a lesser duty."

The silence stretched for a mont, broken only by the ice belle rolling over on the bed and mumbling sleepily about food, and finally Tom nodded, understanding settling into his expression as he bowed deeply.

"Then I will serve you there," Tom said earnestly. "I will make sure your tent is the one place you can always return to safely."

Lucas inclined his head in return, satisfied, and as he turned toward the window to look out over the palace grounds and the armies preparing beyond its walls, he felt a rare sense of certainty that not every battle was ant to be fought with weapons, and that sotis the strongest loyalty was proven by knowing where one truly belonged.
