Cecilia continued her work in silence for a while after his explanation, her hands steady as she dipped the sponge back into the warm water and resud gently washing his shoulders and chest, her movents slower now, more careful, as though the knowledge of what he had endured had made her more aware of every mark on his body, every scar that told a story she had only just begun to understand. The steam rose softly around them, blurring the edges of the room, wrapping them in a quiet stillness that felt far removed from the harsh world outside.

Lucas watched her for a mont before speaking again, his tone calm but thoughtful. "How did you find ?" he asked. "Out there, I an. You ca straight to us."

Cecilia paused briefly, as if recalling it herself, then shook her head slightly. "I didn't know you were there at first," she said slowly. "I just… felt sothing."

Lucas's eyes narrowed slightly. "Felt?"

She nodded, her brows knitting together faintly as she tried to put it into words. "It's strange," she admitted. "I can't explain it properly. It wasn't like sensing soone's presence the normal way. It was… clearer than that. Familiar. Like I knew you were close, even without seeing you." She looked at him again. "So I followed it. And it led straight to you."

Lucas didn't respond imdiately.

Instead, he leaned back slightly in the bath, the water shifting around him as his thoughts began to connect, the clarity in his mind now sharper than it had been in a long ti. What she described was not coincidence, and it was not instinct either. It was sothing deeper. Sothing ford.

The bond.

He exhaled slowly, his gaze lowering slightly as realization settled in with quiet certainty. The influence of the dual cultivation was no longer subtle. It was growing, evolving, extending beyond what he had initially understood. Cecilia sensing him like that was not natural. It was a result of connection.

And that led his thoughts sowhere else.

Sowhere he had not fully considered until now.

The empress.

His expression shifted slightly, the faintest trace of surprise crossing his face as a realization surfaced, one that should have been obvious, yet had sohow gone unnoticed until this mont.

He had never personally bound her.

Not formally.

Not through the soul-bound contract that he had used with the others.

He had avoided it, deliberately, because he had believed his body and spirit would not be able to withstand the weight of binding with a celestial being, soone far beyond his own level at the ti. It would have been too much, too dangerous, too overwhelming.

And yet…

It had happened.

Not in the way he had expected.

But it had happened.

He could feel it now, clearer than ever, a connection far deeper than simple energy exchange, far stronger than what should have been possible without a proper binding. It was alive, growing, expanding within him, its presence undeniable, its influence spreading into every aspect of his cultivation and awareness.

His mind sharpened further as he analyzed it, the implications unfolding one after another. The dual cultivation technique was not just powerful, it was evolving with him, adapting, creating bonds in ways he had not fully comprehended before. And after what had happened with the empress, after the sheer scale of energy exchanged between them, sothing had changed fundantally.

It was no longer just a technique.

It was becoming sothing greater.

Stronger.

And it was growing rapidly.

Lucas remained still in the bath, the warmth surrounding him as his thoughts settled into a new understanding, one that no longer carried the sa hesitation he once had. What he had feared before, the burden of binding with those stronger than him, the overwhelming weight of their souls and power, it no longer felt like a limitation. Instead, it felt like an advantage, sothing he could now wield without restraint, without the sa fear of collapse or imbalance. The realization brought a quiet confidence to his expression, a subtle shift in the way he carried himself even in that mont of rest.

For him, this was not a problem.

It was an opportunity.

Cecilia continued to wash him, unaware of the depth of his thoughts, her hands steady as she worked, though the earlier calm between them had taken on a more thoughtful silence. Lucas watched her for a mont, sothing else surfacing in his mind, a mory not entirely distant, one tied to monts of closeness and shared warmth, monts that now felt heavier given everything that had happened since.

"Lady Cecilia…" he said quietly.

She looked up at him. "Yes?"

Lucas hesitated briefly, then spoke. "What about Lady Isabelle?"

The mont the na left his lips, sothing changed.

Cecilia's hand stilled.

The softness in her expression faded, replaced by sothing more restrained, more guarded, and for a brief mont, she didn't respond, her gaze lowering slightly as though she had expected the question but still wished she didn't have to answer it.

Lucas noticed imdiately. "What happened?" he asked, his tone more serious now.

Cecilia exhaled slowly, her grip on the sponge tightening just a little before she set it aside, her hands resting against the edge of the tub as she gathered her thoughts. When she finally spoke, her voice was quieter, heavier.

"She was taken," she said.

Lucas's eyes sharpened. "Taken?"

Cecilia nodded, her gaze still lowered. "Arrested," she clarified. "By the usurpers."

The words settled heavily in the room.

"And she's not the only one," Cecilia continued after a brief pause, her voice tightening slightly. "Sage Raph… was taken too."

Lucas went still.

The warmth of the bath no longer felt the sa.

He did not respond imdiately after hearing their nas, not because he had nothing to say, but because too much rose within him at once, mories, battles, debts that could not be asured in simple words. Sage Raph was not just another ally, he was one of the pillars that had held Valerion together when everything else had begun to crumble, and without him, the early clashes against the usurpers would have ended far worse than they did. Lucas could still recall the mont he had first received the Core of Dominion, the precision behind its creation, the brilliance that only a mind like Raph's could possess, and how those bracelets had turned the tide for countless soldiers who would have otherwise fallen.

And Isabelle…

His gaze lowered slightly, his thoughts shifting, because she was not just part of the past, not just a fleeting connection, her influence ran through him even now. The Yin energy she had shared with him had strengthened him, stabilized him, pushed him further along his path than he might have reached alone. She had contributed to the foundation of what he was becoming, and that was not sothing he could ignore, not sothing he would ever disregard as insignificant.

Lucas's jaw tightened, the calmness in his expression hardening into sothing more resolute, more dangerous. "I won't leave them there," he said quietly, but with a certainty that left no room for doubt. "Not Raph. Not Isabelle."

Cecilia looked at him, her eyes searching his face, as if trying to asure whether those were just words or sothing deeper, sothing he truly intended to act on.

Lucas t her gaze. "When I get a window, even a small one… I'll go for them," he continued. "No matter what it takes."

There was no hesitation in his voice.

No uncertainty.

For him, this was already decided.

Cecilia's expression softened slightly at his words, a faint sense of relief appearing, but it did not last long. Sothing else lingered beneath it, sothing heavier, sothing she had not yet said.

Lucas noticed.

His eyes narrowed slightly. "What is it?" he asked.

Cecilia didn't answer imdiately. Her gaze dropped again, her fingers tightening slightly against the edge of the wooden tub, and when she finally spoke, her voice was quieter than before, weighed down by what she was about to reveal.

"It's not just that they were arrested," she said slowly.

Lucas's expression stilled.

Cecilia took a breath, then looked up at him, her eyes filled with a quiet dread.

"They're going to be executed," she said.

The words hung in the air.

"In a few days."

Everything went still. Lucas's expression darkened as the weight of her words settled fully, the calm resolve in his eyes sharpening into sothing colder, more focused, because this was no longer just about occupation or strategy, this was deliberate cruelty, a ssage ant to break whatever resistance remained. He looked at Cecilia, his voice low but steady. "Why them?"

Cecilia shook her head faintly, her composure beginning to crack. "Because they didn't bow," she said, her voice trembling despite her effort to stay calm. "They spoke out. They opposed what was happening. Sage Raph refused to give the town up, and Isabelle… she stood with him."

Lucas's jaw tightened further.

"They made an example out of them," Cecilia continued, her words coming faster now as emotion pushed through her restraint. "Anyone who resists, anyone who doesn't submit, they get taken. Publicly. So the rest will fall in line."

She paused, her breath hitching slightly, and then the rest ca out, heavier, more personal. "Isabelle… she wasn't even supposed to be here," she said, her voice breaking. "She only ca to visit ."

Her hands clenched together as she looked down, unable to hold it in any longer.

"And now she's…" her words faltered as tears welled up in her eyes.

She covered her mouth briefly, but it didn't stop the sob that escaped her, quiet at first, then heavier as the weight of guilt and fear overwheld her. "This is my fault," she whispered. "If she hadn't co… if she hadn't…"

Lucas moved imdiately.

He reached out and caught her gently, pulling her closer, stopping the spiral before it could take hold, his voice firm but not harsh. "No," he said. "Don't do that."

She shook her head against him, still trembling. "But she ca because of …"

"And she stayed because of who she is," Lucas replied, his tone steady, grounding. "You said it yourself. She stood against them. That wasn't because of you. That was her choice."

Cecilia didn't respond, but her sobs softened slightly, though the pain remained.

Lucas's gaze hardened again, his mind already moving past emotion into sothing far more dangerous, sothing calculated. A few days. That was all the ti they had.

That wasn't enough for a careful plan.

But it was enough for action.

He looked down at her, his voice quieter now, but carrying a weight that made her still. "Then we don't wait," he said.

Cecilia slowly looked up at him, her eyes still wet. "What do you an?"

Lucas's expression didn't change.

"We save them before that happens," he said.
