The group found themselves being led by Seryn deeper into the Heartwood Tree. The glow of the entrance behind them faded with every step, replaced by the dim, greenish light of moss-lined walls and clusters of glowing spores that drifted lazily in the air like drifting embers. The path underfoot felt alive, soft and spongy, as if it breathed with the tree itself.

As they walked, Seryn began to speak again. Her voice was quiet, reverent, and carried easily through the silence of the sacred space.

"The Elders and I are truly grateful for what you have done for us and this forest. Without your intervention..." She paused, placing a hand gently on the mossy wall beside her. "It could have ant the end of everything."

No one spoke. The weight of her words settled over them like a quiet fog. The group had seen what that corruption could do. They had fought its twisted spawn, watched it eat away at peoples minds. The idea of it consuming even more felt too terrible to imagine.

Seryn continued walking, her footsteps silent on the living path. "What you have done is build a connection with the elves and nature here. Not just through battle, but through trust. That is not given lightly. That is why your reward lies in the most secure place within our sacred tree."

They reached a vast chamber nestled at the bottom of the spiral path. It opened up like the inside of a sacred cathedral, but made not of stone and mortar, but of living wood and ancient magic. The ceiling arched high above, a do of tangled roots laced with soft lights. The air humd faintly, filled with energy that seed to thrum beneath their skin.

At the center of the chamber stood a structure made of tightly interwoven roots and polished stone, shaped like a giant unopened flower. The petals pulsed faintly with golden light, slow and steady like a heartbeat.

Seryn stepped aside. "This is the Heartwood Vault. It has not opened in generations. Not since the last Guardian....my mother was chosen."

Leo glanced at her. "So what exactly is inside?"

"I cannot say. The Heartwood chooses what to give. It knows your hearts. Your choices. Your burdens. It gives not what you want, but what you are ready to carry."

Aria took a quiet breath. "That sounds a lot like fate."

Seryn smiled gently. "Perhaps it is."

One by one, the group approached the vault. Seryn motioned for them to place their hands upon the outer petals together. As soon as their fingers touched the living surface, a soft ripple spread across the vault.

As soon as their fingers touched the living surface, a soft ripple spread across the vault. The petals responded like muscle and breath, slowly curling outward with the grace of sothing ancient waking from a deep sleep. A warm light spilled from the opening, casting long shadows across the chamber floor.

Then the floor beneath them shifted.

Nine platforms rose from the living roots, spreading out in a wide ring around the vault’s center. Each one ford out of twisted vines and polished wood, shaped with care and reverence. The moss that lined them shimred faintly, glowing in colors unique to each person.

No one needed to be told where to go. Without speaking, the group began to move. Their feet carried them to the platforms ant for them, as if the forest itself called them forward.

As the vault blood open and the platforms rose from the roots, Aria found her feet moving on their own as she arrived at her platform first. The pull wasn’t magical in the traditional sense, but it was deeper than thought. Instinctive. Like the platform had called to her in a voice only she could hear.

Her platform glowed in soft shades of teal and pale gold. Resting atop the mossy surface was a pair of leather boots lined with delicate feathers. They looked impossibly light, the kind a dancer or singer might wear during a performance. Every seam looked crafted with care, fitted as if designed specifically for her.

Beside the boots lay a glowing skillbook. She didn’t need to open it to know it resonated with her voice. Music seed to rise from its surface, not in sound but in sensation. The lody teased the edge of her hearing, as if her soul could already hear the notes waiting to be born.

And then there was the potion.

A small glass vial sat nestled in a carved groove in the platform, filled with glowing green liquid. Aria lifted it slowly, eyes narrowing. It didn’t radiate danger, but sothing about it felt alive. The light inside swirled in lazy circles, moving as if in tune with sothing deeper.

She turned her head slightly and noticed sothing. Every other platform had a matching vial.

All nine of them.

She raised her hand. "What’s this?"

Seryn stepped forward with a faint smile. "It is a gift from the people of the Heartwood Tree. A final blessing. This potion will carry you to the next stage of your journey. It contains the essence of the tree itself and will elevate your existence."

Aria looked down at the items before her one last ti. The boots, the book, the potion. Each one felt like a piece of the path ahead, shaped by the trials she had already faced. She closed her fingers around the vial, then took a breath. Whatever ca next, she and her friends would be ready.
