Rachel could finally understand why Adam felt he was so twisted when surrounded by monsters in human skin.
lanie deepest desire was sating her lust for Adam. He was her half brother and almost half her age but she didn't care. Every thought that ran through her head was with that goal in mind.
It was also this insane perverted desire that made her emotions volatile and dangerous. If anyone showed the slightest affection to him, she would start thinking of ways to separate, maim and or if all else fails....slaughter them.
Jeremy wasn't much better. In fact, in so ways he was worse. Even while enduring the physical beating Adam was giving him, there was one thought that prevailed at the forefront if his mind: Fa.
His view on life was that there was none worth more than his own and that sacrificing other peoples lives to elevate his own fa was the greatest honor he could give them.
She used to be on the fence about Adam's desire to tear down his family's company. Now she was totally onboard.
Penny winced everyti she heard the crunch of Adam's fist eting Jeremy's face. After dozens if not hundreds of punches, a normal persons fists would have broken.
Unluckily for her Uncle Jeremy thouggh, one of Adam's mutations was regeneration so even if there was a hairline fracture or his knuckles broke upon impact, Adam would only need a few seconds for it to regenerate.
The person who decided to end the bashing of Jeremy's face was Greg. Not because he felt pity for the man but because he was tired of seeing Adam's poor punching form.
"That's not how you throw a punch man. All you're doing at this point is hurting your hands and not doing much damage to him."
Adam slowly climbed off of Jeremy who once again was coated in a faint brown light. Vivian was healing him so that he wouldn't die.
Vivian flashed Greg a perplexed look for a second. Greg had motioned for her to heal the man again and she did so out of curiousity.
Now wise to the antics of Vivian who hadn't healed him the first ti out of good will. He scrambled to his feet, wary of the giant of a man that was Greg.
He knew that this man was close with Adam as he had visited the building before but they hadn't interacted much.
Jeremy tried to retreat but it was too late.
"This is how you throw a punch!"
Greg rotated on his heels and twisting his hips, using the full rotational force of his body to throw a devastating hook to Jeremy's jaw.
The blow landed cleanly and Jeremy lost conscious completely from the pain of his jaw shattering like glass in his mouth.
He crumpled to the floor for good with fragnts of broken teeth scattered around his body.
Aria covered her mouth with her hand when Jeremy's body hit the floor. She did not flinch at the violence itself, but at the raw brutality of Greg's strike. The way Jeremy's jaw had shattered left her stomach twisted. She exchanged a glance with Luna, who was clearly thinking the sa thing.
"That woman is dangerous," Luna whispered, her sharp gaze sliding toward lanie. Her tone was quiet but carried enough weight that Aria knew it was not just a passing thought.
Lily nodded, her eyes narrowing as she studied lanie with an intensity that made Ethan shift uncomfortably. "There is sothing rotten inside her. It is not just obsession. It is hunger. A hunger that will consu anyone near Adam if it is left unchecked."
lanie did not notice their stares. Her eyes had been fixed on Adam the entire ti, her chest rising and falling in shallow breaths, cheeks flushed as though she were intoxicated by the sight of him fighting. Ethan felt heat creep into his own face as he watched her.
"She's…" Ethan hesitated, but then forced himself to finish. "She's not all bad. Maybe she just needs soone to… I don't know, guide her. I think I could help her."
Rachel, who had been leaning against the wall with her arms folded, let out a low laugh. She tilted her head toward Ethan, her voice a muttered barb. "You can't fix psychos."
Ethan scowled at her, but Rachel's attention had already shifted back to lanie, her tail flicking with irritation.
Leo was not even looking at lanie. His eyes were locked on the corner of the room where Jeremy had first appeared, where faint traces of mana still lingered like smoke. The beacon. He had seen Jeremy's hands work on it before the fight broke out, had watched the smug certainty in his uncle's expression. That disturbed him more than the beating, more than Greg's finishing blow.
"That beacon," Leo said sharply, finally speaking up. "Where is it?"
Everyone turned toward him, surprised at the urgency in his tone.
"He built sothing before Adam started hitting him. Sothing to bring him back. If Jeremy thought he could co here and act this arrogant, he must have been sure he would live through it. We need to find it before it activates again."
Aria's hand dropped from her mouth, her expression paling. "You an he could return? Even after that?"
Leo nodded grimly. "If he had ti to finish it. And if it is linked to his family's system. If we let him get up again, all of this was pointless."
The silence that followed was broken by Arachne, who stepped forward with a smile curling at the edge of her lips. She reached out and patted Greg on the shoulder with delicate, almost affectionate fingers.
"Well done," she said with satisfaction. "Your patron chose well. That punch carried more weight than strength alone."
Greg rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, staring down at Jeremy's crumpled body. "I wasn't thinking about gods or choices. That guy just had one of those faces. You know, the kind that practically begs you to hit it."
Arachne's smile deepened, but she said nothing further, content with his answer.
