[System Update: 35.08%. Ti Left: 2 Months.]
Just as he thought, by the ti he was flying back to space in his fighter craft, the fight was basically over. All that were left were remnants. All of the larger mortella ships had been destroyed. Leaving only the escape pods and landing craft they deployed in ergency toward Prima Terra and only Prima Terra.
With the mortella’s leadership destroyed, the local militias would be fighting them on ground for the first ti in their history. The locals and remnants of mortella would also be able to figure out where Jace’s group was since a massive blue-green beam destroyed the retreating portion of the mortella. Then there were the various other nations, with the mortella in play, even if it was just remnants, they all had a claim and reason to be in this galaxy.
So far, Jace and the others had been left alone for the week since the battle. During that ti he had repaired the underneath and joint part of his armor. It was actually a pain to do until the material printer was up and running.
Once the material printer was functioning he had Cain create a clothes printer which shocked not just West and Liz, but Catherine as well. It was becoming more normal for him, but it was a form of progression that the older woman had missed out on. Once the clothes printer was made he just fed in the tals and basic elents for a pressure suit to get sewn. Then he spent ti moving all the forged armor over to the new pressure suit before taking it on a test run.
Not even a day after the clothes printer was made. The other forms of printers began to be created. Jace had unintentionally reminded the others about their usefulness and now they had several rooms aboard their cruiser dedicated to the printers. The cafeteria included.
As for what Jace has been doing besides working on his armor. He has also been modifying the already completed reactor room as well as fixing his Hound’s Tooth fighter craft. It was easy to repair the minor damage to the Hound’s Tooth. As well as reworking the wiring in the reactor room to accommodate for a secondary energy source.
The Hound’s Tooth was only damaged on the surface. Its actual functions were not damaged to the point of needing to be replaced. So things needed to be a bit cleaned up to beco fully functional.
Now what he would be working on, or rather what he should be working on, is the engine. He was reworking it to be the more advanced design he was thinking of. It should be able to do everything from faster than light, warping, wave riding, and finally the newest pair of additions to Jace’s arsenal of knowledge: point-to-point teleportation and stable teleportation gate projection.
The point-to-point teleportation would move the ship from one area of space to another. It would literally swap places with anything in the space the ship would occupy. After seeing so many different forms of teleportation. He developed his own version that would fold the space and swap two areas of space. In order to achieve this he would need to strengthen the shielding in the ship and test it on a smaller ship before he tried it on the cruiser. A certain type of shielding would be necessary so the ship did not tear itself apart when it swapped places with another area of space.
Then the stable teleportation gate projection was the other new form of teleportation he wanted to test out. This one could not be attempted easily with another ship. But he would test sending objects through first before they took the cruiser through. Just to make sure his theory was correct and the projected portal would not collapse. But in order to do this he would need to create devices around the front of the ship to project and form the temporary portals. If he was right the distance should be anywhere in a galaxy. But they would need to test it for a bit.
But those were for later and he was only leaving space to complete installing those. He first had to install the other stuff. The stuff they knew would work. Especially since the other thighs would just be experintal in nature.
At the very mont he checked the nanosystems update he was in the engineering room. Preparing the engines which he had been changing since the UEE used a different thod of engine propulsion. Although it was not that different, it was still energy inefficient and slower than the old type.
"Gladiator, looks like we have an envoy ship coming toward our location." Jace heard West declare over the ship-wide speakers. "What are we doing? Letting them approach? Telling them to go away?"
Jace thought about it in the middle of using a wrench to adjust sothing. "I an... ha... No, tell them we are not interfering or interfacing beyond obtaining resources. We will not share any technological advancents either. Inform them that our ho galaxy has strict rules regarding interacting with groups that are less technologically developed than us." Jace declared as he got back to work. He was remotely activating a console and speaking aloud to speak through it.
West responded with an impressed voice but through the nearby console instead of the ship-wide speakers. "You have rules and plans for stuff like interacting with a less advanced species? That is interesting. I will pass on your ssage after I clean it up a bit. Do you want to run the final ssage by you or Cain?"
"Cain." Jace answered.
"Hey West, we do not have any rules like that in our galaxy. Our boss just does not want to deal with the people of this galaxy. So he is playing at their sense of understanding so they will not bother us." Valkyrie explained with a chuckle that sounded haunting.
"Gladiator is petty like that." Shinobi declared. "Just ask K, he makes sure she gets all the tasks no one wants just because she was a traitor."
"He does?" K asked suddenly.
Jace blinked but focused on what he was doing. He did not actually torture K with troubleso tasks. At least not intentionally. There was no point in doing so, he knew from the start that she was a spy for the Union. He was giving her difficult tasks, but that had more to do with the fact that he trusted her to do what was right and would be reliable. Not to ntion most of the other people were relegated to tasks within their skill sets. Even Jace himself now spent the majority of his ti working on engineering projects.
"I don’t." Jace interrupted their talk about his decision making. "How is the progress of our other projects going?" Jace asked. He let his team have free reign to let them work on what they want for now. There was no point in directing them as much anymore.
Colvert was working on so of the more complex components of the cruiser. Such as the ergency power storage systems and functions. The communication array that Jace had designed. Then finally he would repair the central laser cannon that acted as the ship’s main weapon.
Just as Colvert was working on the main weapon, Jamal was working on the other weapons. The various cannons and batteries located throughout the ship were being set up by him. Most of them could just function with a basic autotargeting system or be manually controlled. But the larger, actual cannons located on the port and starboard sides of the ship were in compartnts with atmospheric barriers and secondary shielding barriers that could be raised and dropped, they could also not function without an actual team to load the cannons. So they would not be functional or useful without a team of people.
Speaking of a team of people, a few of the less tech savvy mbers were relegated to installing the scanning suite. West, Liz, and Shinobi were the ones specifically working on it. All they had to do was follow the directions that Jace made for them.
Valkyrie, K, Cain, Crystal, and Victor were working on reworking and repairing the support functions on the cruiser. Which consisted of everything from wiring to the life support systems. All things that degrade over ti or need to be redone because of their redesigns. There were not many things in this cruiser aside from the skeleton and frawork that they were not redoing.
"We are all good and making progress. But we project another two months before completion of all systems and functions. How about you?" West asked, she was definitely on monitor duty at the mont. Which was their equivalent of working while on break since they just had to listen for beeping.
Jace looked around at the various pieces of equipnt around the room. "With interruptions and necessary runs to retrieve resources? I would say a month to get the ship mobile. Then another month to get the more complex systems tested and running. But we could leave in a month if we get everything locked down."
"Sounds like a plan. We can begin heading to our destination. Which I am sure I speak for all of us when I say that we would like to know what that looks like or where it is." Crystal pointed out. Jace decided to ignore the ch pilot. He did not want to risk possibly compromising the information.
