Now reading: Chapter 26 26 from Sparta: Many childrens, Many Blessings, Starting from the Gladiator, a Action novel by Bruceink.

He saw Octavius sitting on the steps in front of his own cell door, holding a piece of black bread in his hand and slowly gnawing on it.

Several gladiators watched him from afar with complex eyes. No one dared to get close.

Lynx thought for a mont and walked over.

Octavius raised his head, watched him approach, and didn't speak.

Lynx sat down beside him and also took a piece of bread — brought from his own cell, not from the kitchen.

The two ate in silence.

After a long while, Octavius finally spoke. His voice was low and deep, with a heavy Germanic accent: "Your na is Lynx?"

"Mm."

"I heard them say you defeated the champion here."

"Lucky."

Octavius grinned: "Lucky? That Crixus, I saw him. He has quite a lot of strength. To defeat him is not luck."

Lynx didn't reply and continued eating the bread.

"The performance match the day after tomorrow,"

Octavius suddenly said. "How do you plan to fight?"

Lynx turned to look at him: "You have ideas?"

"Yes."

Octavius nodded. "I have heard of the four people from Nodis. 'Anvil' and 'Hamr' are brothers and cooperate very well. 'Viper' is fast but has poor endurance. 'Spider's' net is very troubleso, but he is afraid of close combat."

"You know quite a lot."

"I stayed in the Nodis training camp for two days."

"Then I was bought by Batiatus."

Octavius said in a deep voice.

Lynx's heart moved: "Why?"

"The boss of Nodis wanted to be an assassin, specifically to secretly attack opponents in performance matches."

"I refused, so he sold ."

"Assassin?"

"Yes."

Octavius looked at him with serious eyes. "In tomorrow's performance match, Nodis definitely has a backhand. Not just those four people, there are others. You guys have to be careful."

Lynx stared at him: "Why are you telling these things?"

"Because I don't want to die."

"Even more, I don't want to be soone else's blade. I want to live, I want freedom, and you guys… look like people who have a chance to get out alive."

He spoke very directly.

Lynx was silent for a mont and asked: "Then how do you plan to fight the day after tomorrow?"

"Listen to you."

"As long as you let live, I will help you."

The words were straightforward.

Lynx looked at him and suddenly smiled: "Fine. Then the day after tomorrow, you stay close to . Whoever I tell you to hit, you hit. Whoever I tell you to retreat, you retreat."

"Deal."

The two bumped fists.

In the distance, Crixus stood at the door of his own cell, looking this way with a gloomy face.

At this mont, Gisco walked over and said in a low voice: "Lynx, I found out. That Octavius is indeed a warrior from a Germanic tribe."

"Their tribe was wiped out by a Roman legion. He killed his way out alone, fled for half a month before being captured. Nodis bought him to train him as a secret weapon, but for so reason it didn't work out, so they sold him to Batiatus."

"Secret weapon…"

Lynx muttered to himself.

He rembered Lucretia talking about the six-person formation, Crixus talking about the ship, and Batiatus's last-minute addition of a person…

A thought suddenly flashed in his mind.

What if… what if Octavius was the "fifth person" or "sixth person" Nodis had prepared?

What if Batiatus knew about this and deliberately bought him over to counter Nodis?

Or… a more complicated situation?

Lynx rubbed his temples.

Too little information. He couldn't figure it out.

But one thing was certain — the performance match the day after tomorrow, the water was deeper than imagined.

"Gisco,"

He said in a low voice. "Before entering the field the day after tomorrow, check everyone's weapons, especially Octavius's. Check carefully."

"Understood."

The night grew deeper.

The training ground gradually quieted down.

Lynx returned to his cell, lay on the bed, and simulated the possibilities for the day after tomorrow again and again in his mind.

Nodis four people, possibly plus two more.

His side three people — him, Crixus, Octavius.

Nurical disadvantage.

The terrain is a standard arena sand field, with weapon racks and obstacles.

Crixus wants to strong attack "Anvil".

He wants to solve "Spider".

Octavius… temporarily an ally.

The plan to escape from the side door.

The ship.

And Batiatus's possible backhand…

One variable after another collided and combined in his mind.

Finally, he sat up and opened the system panel.

1000 points.

It was ti to exchange for sothing.

He browsed the shop list.

[Danger Perception (Beginner)]: 800 points

[Physique Enhancent Potion (Beginner)]: 1000 points

[Charm Halo (Weak)]: 600 points

[Weapon Mastery (Short Sword · Advanced)]: 1200 points

[Agility Enhancent (Beginner)]: 700 points

[Strength Enhancent (Beginner)]: 700 points

The most practical was obviously "Danger Perception".

It could detect danger in advance, which was crucial in lee.

But if he spent 800 points, what if he needed sothing else…

Lynx hesitated for a mont and ultimately chose to exchange.

[Ding! Exchanged "Danger Perception (Beginner)" successfully! Consud 800 points!]

[Current points: 200 points]

A cool feeling surged into his brain, as if he had gained an invisible pair of eyes.

Everything around him — the texture of the walls, the dust on the ground, the sound of the wind outside the window — beca extraordinarily clear.

He could even "feel" Amir turning over in the cell next door;

He could "feel" the sound of the night watchman yawning at the other end of the courtyard.

Very magical.

"System, how does this Danger Perception work specifically?"

[Danger Perception (Beginner): Passive skill. When the Host is about to encounter a fatal or serious threat, you will receive a short warning (about 0.5-1 second). The warning form is an intuitive prompt or an abnormal feeling in the environnt.]

0.5 to 1 second.

In the arena, it was enough.

Lynx lay back on the straw mat and closed his eyes.

With toxin resistance, with danger perception, with the unexpected variable Octavius…

The chance of winning increased by another point.

The cry of an owl ca from outside the window.

The night grew deep.

The day after tomorrow was the mont that would decide fate.

No matter whether it was life or death ahead, he had to keep going.

For Mira, for the unborn child, and for… himself.

He was going to win this ga.

He must win.

The sky was not yet fully bright when the training ground woke up.

It was not woken by the rooster, but by the instructor's whip.

"Get up! All of you get the fuck up! Last day! Whoever slacks off, I'll whip him to death!"

The rattan whip cracked against the wooden doors.

The gladiators cursed as they crawled out of their cells, rubbing their eyes, yawning, and gathering in the center of the courtyard.

Lynx was already there.

He stood by the sand pit, holding the refined steel short sword in his hand, practicing thrusting movents over and over.

The blade cut through the air, making sharp whistling sounds.

The movents were not fast, but every strike was accurate to the milliter. The coordination between wrist and arm was perfect like a machine.

Octavius had also co out.

The giant stood at the door of his own cell, watching the crowd in the courtyard. His eyes were calm, but his muscles were already tense, like a leopard ready to pounce at any mont.

Crixus was the last to arrive.

His face looked very bad, with dark circles under his eyes. He obviously hadn't slept well.

When he walked to the center of the courtyard, he glared fiercely at Lynx, glanced at Octavius, snorted coldly, and stood at the front of the line.
