Xiao Lin pondered for a mont but couldn’t help voicing his concern. Sumr Snow had been frightened, and he wasn’t sure if she could continue with such a surgery. It was physically demanding, and without a good mindset, unpredictable mistakes might occur on the operating table. He couldn’t risk Xiao Lang’s life.
Sumr Snow nodded. She could only help him a little bit, seeing the formidable person being killed by him with just one hand. She realized she was powerless to help him.
"Alright, go get a sheet."
As Sumr Snow was bewildered, Xiao Lin had already entered the room, drew out the sheet from the bed, handed one end to Sumr Snow, and folded it, threading it under Xiao Lang’s body to make a makeshift stretcher.
"Why are you so familiar with this?" Sumr Snow’s question made Xiao Lin smile. "I know you’re a military doctor, but there’s no war now. Where did you get such skills?"
"I’ll tell you everything, but not now."
When Xiao Lin helped carry people downstairs, the dust cover was already erected in the hall, and various tight-knit equipnt had been placed inside the dust cover.
"Where’s Miao Shaoqing?" After putting Xiao Lang on the table, Xiao Lin asked Hua Qingyi.
"He said he was going to find a generator; household power might not be enough for these devices." Hua Qingyi hadn’t expected this, but Miao Shaoqing just glanced and ran out, sparingly said the word ’generator,’ leading him to form the conclusion.
Xiao Lin nodded. By this ti, Sumr Snow had already removed Xiao Lang’s clothing and cleaned the hairs around his wound, while Xiao Lin was rummaging through the equipnt box for what he needed.
"Is there anything I should do?" Unaware of what he could do, Hua Qingyi knew nothing about dicine.
Xiao Lin ignored him but glanced at Sumr Snow. "Is intravenous anesthetic enough for the entire surgery? We need to perform open-heart surgery."
"It’s best to use inhalation anesthesia; it lasts about four hours. Intravenous has more harm to the body and lasts relatively shorter, but if the dosage is sufficient, it’s still possible."
"Hm, we have no choice." After completing her work, Sumr Snow handed Hua Qingyi a rod. "Find a way to fix the rod on Xiao Lang’s left side, and get another rod positioned on his right side."
Obediently, Hua Qingyi began searching left and right for supports at the table sides, but the table edges were too even to secure anything. So, he took out his pocket knife and carved a notch at the table edge to fix the rod, finding a stool to support the rod and secure it. "Mission accomplished with glory." He patted his hands, whistling in satisfaction at his creation.
"Go put on the surgical gown." Xiao Lin tossed a set of clothes to Hua Qingyi. Miao Shaoqing had already fetched a generator, and upon installation, received a surgical gown as well. The two looked bewildered at Xiao Lin, feeling like they were of no use here!
Seeing their expressions, Sumr Snow almost laughed, already prepared, standing opposite Xiao Lin.
"After putting them on, stand aside and wait for my commands. I’ll guide you on what to do. Without any commands, don’t touch anything, and keep your hands clean and sterile," Xiao Lin stated and didn’t look at the two fools but focused on cutting open the wound’s surface with a scalpel.
If it were rely a simple bullet entry without penetrating the valve, he could handle it alone. But given the complex situation, having two additional helpers wouldn’t hurt.
"Lin is a great teacher. You two co here; don’t stand so far." During the preliminary work, Sumr Snow’s assistance wasn’t much; the sternum was gradually opened by the thoracic spreader, revealing the heart below.
It was the first ti to observe the heartbeat of a human heart so closely, the magical visual sensation made Hua Qingyi and Miao Shaoqing unconsciously excited, although the heart’s irregular rhythm was eerie, pulsating as if unable to breathe.
The bullet lodged at the upper left chamber; Xiao Lin perford ligatures on the arteries and blocked the blood flow at both ends, extracted the bullet while Sumr Snow cautiously released the hemostatic clamps, proceeding to repair work.
In the silence, only the sounds of scissors, instrunts, and tal clashing were heard. It wasn’t the first ti Hua Qingyi stood beside Xiao Lin during surgery, but those surgeries seed like child’s play compared to this mont.
At Miao Family Village, Miao Shaoqing had no chance to witness Xiao Lin’s dical prowess, despite Elder Miao’s repeated praises. He had been skeptical; for soone just over twenty to reach such a level seed fantastical to him. Today, like Hua Qingyi, he no longer doubted but was wholeheartedly convinced.
Ultimately, the two held hands up till the end without helping much, and the entire surgery took just three and a half hours. Staring at the beautiful stitches on Xiao Lang’s chest, they felt as if still in a dream, not ready to wake up.
"Increase the dosage of pain relief for another day, leave the rest for you to tidy up, and use those two as you wish." Knowing Xiao Lin’s habits, Sumr Snow nodded.
"Finished?" Hua Qingyi saw Xiao Lin preparing to leave; he looked again at the person on the table, whose chest had opened monts ago and was now bandaged tightly.
"Let him sleep a little; just don’t disturb him." Sumr Snow removed the used scalpel head and threw it into the trash, leaving the handle. "Can these things stay here? We might need them in the future." With this experience, Sumr Snow thought there should be a sterile room in the farmhouse set up as an operating room, in case anyone else gets injured.
Seeing these people suddenly erged, she realized how well-protected they were, though she was fully aware she didn’t have the identity to receive such protection. She believed that person should be Xiao Lin. Though said to be protecting them, she couldn’t link these people with herself.
"Since they’re brought here, there’s no need to return them; soday I’ll get more advanced equipnt," Hua Qingyi didn’t know if the equipnt should be moved away, but they needed to stay, coming each ti and asking Sumr Snow. "Today convinced fully; we need these things here."
Hua Qingyi’s words made Sumr Snow laugh, dispersing the recent gloom.
"Lian, she..."
"Don’t worry; trust brother, he’ll bring her back safely." (To be continued. If you like this work, please visit Qidian (qidian) to vote for recomndations and monthly tickets; your support is my greatest motivation.)
