"What a ss!" Wu Shuang felt powerless, with no clue where to start. All the problems seed like a kite with broken strings, drifting far away, out of reach, but she could sense the issues were right in front of her.
The two parted ways in the parking lot, now approaching dusk. The crowded lot now held only a few cars. Xiao Lin's car was parked about five or six vehicles away from Wu Shuang's. He opened his car door, noticing Wu Shuang was already seated in her car, hesitating for a mont before walking back to the front of Wu Shuang's car.
The glass window was tapped, and Wu Shuang opened it, curious. "What happened?"
"Is there sothing wrong with your car?" Xiao Lin stared at her car. Just now, if he wasn't mistaken, there was a sound like sothing was jamd between the gears when she started it.
"Hmm, it was fine earlier. Just now, it seed like it wouldn't start." Wu Shuang tried again, and Xiao Lin heard the sound clearly now, frowning. He yanked the car door open and dragged Wu Shuang out from the driver's seat.
"Hey!" Completely unprepared, her feet still on the brake, Wu Shuang tumbled to the ground, landing on Xiao Lin. Just as her foot released the brake, there was a deafening bang, flas shooting up behind. If Xiao Lin hadn't used his inner strength to swiftly pull her away from the car, even if she'd noticed the problem, she'd not have escaped the driver's seat in ti.
"My... my car!" Wu Shuang couldn't care where she was; she brushed away hair from her mouth, staring fearfully at her car engulfed in flas. Thankfully, it was dusk, with fewer cars parked around, avoiding more damage. "Ah, no! There were docunts I gathered inside." Rembering, she tried to run back, but Xiao Lin held her tightly.
"It's all ashes now." His voice shook with an unfamiliar tremor. If he hadn't paid so attention to Wu Shuang earlier, she might have been scorched like the tal scraps inside. He hugged her tightly, guilt-ridden for transferring danger to an innocent person, yet more determined to eliminate Fourth Master.
People started to gather, so began reporting the incident, and police cars arrived one after another. Wu Shuang pushed Xiao Lin away, sensing sothing unusual about this event. "You owe an explanation."
He did owe her an explanation! Wu Shuang looked at her car, just narrowly escaping death, this shocking experience left her heart pounding. She turned to Xiao Lin, her expression unreadable, but Xiao Lin found himself attracted by those eyes. As he saw the people rushing over, complexity filled his gaze.
"Wu Shuang!" Mu Rongyun parked his vehicle right next to Wu Shuang. Upon hearing about the explosion at the city ntal hospital, he imdiately rushed over. Seeing Wu Shuang standing there intact, the impulse to hug her was restrained when he got out of the car. "Is Captain Wu alright?"
"I'm fine, just my car's a write-off." Wu Shuang shrugged, pretending to be unfazed.
"Young Master Xiao is here too!" Mu Rongyun noticed the person beside them. They exchanged glances, knowing each other's thoughts.
"He saved !" Wu Shuang's words sounded differently to the two n's ears. "Mu Rongyun, I'll leave this to you and them. I have so questions for Dr. Xiao." All the gathered docunts were gone with the flas, and her efforts burned away. She was angry but had never been as calm as now.
Mu Rongyun gave Xiao Lin a warning look, which Xiao Lin understood but didn't intend to heed. He led Wu Shuang into his QQ car and drove away.
Wu Shuang's unexpected composure seed like the calm before a storm. Xiao Lin drove quietly, contemplating where they'd have the best conversation.
"Turn at the corner up ahead, park there!" It was a deserted street, in an alley between two buildings. It looked peaceful, with no one around, and no cars passing by. Frankly, it wasn't the place Xiao Lin wanted for their talk, too oppressive for Wu Shuang's impending questions.
"I think it's better to find a quiet café."
"No need, here is fine." Wu Shuang's unusual coldness silenced Xiao Lin; he rolled down the window and lit a cigarette.
"Am I being targeted?" Wu Shuang asked, staring into a small patch of light ahead. The two skyscrapers faced the Comrcial Street, making the alley appear particularly dim and stifling. "Who are they?"
"Hua Qingyi gave you this case, which might be a bit overwhelming."
"Now soone truly wants dead, and you still refuse to reveal?" Wu Shuang tried to control her emotions, sensing her own trembling, not from cold but a rage after terror. "Xiao Lin, you can't do this to ."
"I'm very sorry." Xiao Lin hesitated, inhaling deeply before exhaling smoke. "This matter shouldn't involve you."
"I almost died just now, and you say it has nothing to do with ?" Her emotions exploded at that mont, and Xiao Lin exhaled deeply.
"I promise such a situation won't appear again."
"Your promise is useless." Wu Shuang searched her bag for a pack of cigarettes, but her trembling hands failed to pull one out, not to ntion light it.
"I'm very sorry." He lit a cigarette for her and handed it to her.
"Don't apologize; tell the truth." Inhaling deeply, she tried to steady herself on the edge of breakdown, unable to truly calm down. "I have the right to know."
"I'll tell you, but right now, you're not in a state to hear the truth." Xiao Lin reached out, checking her pulse. "Were you just injured by the shock wave?"
"If you don't tell now, I'll definitely be hurt."
Wu Shuang was stubborn; Xiao Lin knew this very well. "In fact, the case you're investigating now relates to a ban on drugs, which Qing Yi should have ntioned."
