"I have no special skills, the more I'm not allowed to do sothing, the more interested I beco. Search!" Xu Ming pushed Ji Weihua away and walked directly towards the commander.
Bang! Another gunshot rang out!
This ti, everyone clearly saw that it was Ji Weihua who had fired the shot, the bullet landing right at Xu Ming's feet. Regardless of the reason, Yan Fengying felt that Ji Weihua's actions were rather blatant.
Ji Weihua was a man who cared about his reputation. As a forr military officer, face was more important to him than anything. Xu Ming had contradicted him several tis despite his persuasion, even publicly embarrassing him in front of his subordinates. So when Xu Ming attempted to move forward and take action, Ji Weihua fired a shot as a final warning.
"Officer Xu, who knows where the next bullet might land?" Ji Weihua doubted that a re chief could cause a stir of significant scale; he was confident he could have him packing within just three days.
"Director Ji, are you not going to let us touch this trench?"
"This is a national heritage protection area. I can't let you damage it at will."
"Director Ji, in terms of rank, you are my superior and I must obey your orders, but I am currently executing my duties." Xu Ming was really at odds with Ji Weihua. The commander quietly moved to Xu Ming's side, whispering a few words in his ear. "You all continue, I'll take responsibility if anything happens."
"Very well!" Ji Weihua laughed twice, then raised his hands and waved them forward, shrinking the circle, forcing the commander and his group against the edge of the trench. "I want to see who dares to make a move today."
"Hehehe! I dare." Another voice ca from afar, clear and resonant enough to penetrate straight to one's heart. Ji Weihua was secretly startled, knowing that the voice belonged to soone with a profound Inner Strength, as he heard it before he saw anyone.
Xiao Lin's arrival allowed Xu Ming to breathe a sigh of relief, as he elegantly walked in from an unremarkable entrance.
Among those present, none except Xu Ming and a few others had seen Xiao Lin before. Ji Weihua remained silent, while his n withdrew from the encirclent and slowly approached him, maintaining his protection.
Seeing this form of defense, Xiao Lin laughed louder, with a hint of disdain in his laughter. He walked up to Xu Ming. "Officer Xu, sorry I was delayed by sothing, so I'm a bit late."
"No worries, no worries." Xu Ming didn't know how to respond, as he hadn't expected such an important figure to appear there.
"How much is left undone, do you need my help?" Xiao Lin's respect towards Xu Ming raised Ji Weihua's suspicions.
"Just this remaining trench hasn't been investigated yet."
"Then let's get started!" Completely ignoring the other group, Xiao Lin took out his phone, dialed a few numbers, and then glanced at the tools Xu Ming brought. "Officer Xu, why don't you all take a break? You won't be able to scoop anything up with these."
"That's fine, but Director Ji seems to have reservations about our operation this ti."
"Oh, Director Ji, is it?" With just a turn, he t Ji Weihua's questioning gaze.
Ji Weihua expected Xiao Lin to say sothing to him, but instead, he just stared in silence, prompting Ji Weihua to cough awkwardly a few tis. "Who are you?"
There were rumors of soone being sent from the city committee to handle the Han Fei case. The person before him was young and handso, with striking features that were plenty charming. However, he didn't seem to match the legend of being prettier than a woman. He was indeed handso, but definitely not effeminate.
"Soone from Dragon Soul."
As soon as these words were spoken, several people rushed in from outside, carrying large boxes, sprinting skillfully to Xiao Lin's side. "No need for formalities, just start directly."
"Yes!"
Xiao Lin kept his eyes fixed on Ji Weihua, not needing to seek this person's opinion nor needing to explain anything to anyone.
"Hold on!" Ji Weihua shouted.
"You're trying to stop us?" Xiao Lin's sternness made Ji Weihua shrink back.
"This is a prehistoric natural crack left behind. What if we accidentally damage any of its components?" Ji Weihua contemplated that facing him head-on would only put himself at a disadvantage. Regardless of this person's official rank, looking at those who ca in without any form of formality, he estimated the person was just a field worker, but given the prestige of Dragon Soul, any reckless offense would not benefit him.
"Officer Xu, please have your people clear the place. All unrelated personnel must stay at least two ters away. Anyone who intrudes shall be detained and interrogated according to your regulations."
"Yes!" Upon hearing this, Xu Ming imdiately joined forces with the commander to push Ji Weihua and his subordinates two ters away.
"You..." Ji Weihua pointed at Xiao Lin, his face already reddened with anger.
"Dragon Soul does its work without needing to explain to you." Xiao Lin smiled. "As for your reckless use of a gun just now, we'll only deal with you later."
"Don't think that just because you're with Dragon Soul, you can act all high and mighty here."
Xiao Lin gave a cold laugh and turned around entirely. "Do it thoroughly."
"What... what do you want to do?" Yan Fengying just finished a phone call and walked over, only to see several people lifting things out of the trench bit by bit, making the ground wet and dirty, and occasionally so bouncing fish, caught and then thrown back into the water. "How am I supposed to do business like this, oh heavens!"
"Woman, are you the person in charge here?" Yan Fengying was montarily captivated by the sudden appearance of the handso man. Though many people ca in and out of here, n who looked like they had sothing to offer were rare. The one in front of her t all her standards except for being younger. "Woman!"
"Yes! My na is Yan Fengying, I'm the manager here."
"Very well, you won't get any business today, so you can step aside."
"What? How can that be? All the tables are reserved; how can there be no custors?" Though the young man fit her tastes, money was more important than anything else.
"Because no one can get in."
"Who are you, how can you do this? If..." Yan Fengying wanted to say more, but saw Ji Weihua shaking his head at her, signaling for her not to speak further, and she fell silent, astonished.
"If what?" Xiao Lin was looking at Ji Weihua, tilting his head.
"Nothing!" Yan Fengying quickly changed her tune. She wanted to retreat to the side, honestly disturbed by the unpleasant odor of the things fished out, mixed with mud and sand, a damp sll seemingly excavated from underground. There were also lots of miscellaneous rotten garbage blended in that couldn't even be seen, let alone imagined.
The people Xiao Lin brought were efficient and orderly. Xu Ming looked at their equipnt and then at his own; with just his tools, he'd dig till morning and accomplish nothing, at most making a dent into the surface of what's buried, certainly impossible to dig deeper. If it were so, he would've been taken away by now.
Thinking of this, he exhaled a long breath, realizing the danger as things had just started. A slight misstep or carelessness and one could fall into their trap, with the outco still unknown. These people truly had nerves of steel.
"So cool!" Master Shuai wasn't thinking as deeply as Xu Ming, admiring Xiao Lin to the point of wanting to emulate even his manner of speaking. Within just a few sentences, he had people under control. "Ah, if only one day I could beco a mber of Dragon Soul."
"Stop dreaming. Just getting into Dragon Soul isn't everything. To reach his position, I think you should forget it!" Xu Ming wasn't trying to discourage Master Shuai, but he indirectly learned from Hua Qingyi about Xiao Lin's rank, which was higher than Hua Qingyi's, though they played different roles in this northern district mission.
Though his exact position wasn't disclosed, being higher up than Hua Qingyi's ant it was sothing they could never even dream of.
As more and more things were fished out, Xu Ming's heart sank deeper.
He couldn't see anything, nothing other than garbage. There weren't even any animal bones, let alone human bones. But Ji Weihua, on the other hand, began to sport a faint smile, quickly passing. He gestured for Xu Ming to approach.
"Don't think that having Dragon Soul backing you ans I'll overlook this. If you find nothing today, rest assured I'll invite you for tea."
"That's expected!" Even without confidence, he wouldn't lose face in this scenario.
"Report, nothing found here." The sound of the tools digging grew increasingly delicate, and who knew what lay beneath further. The sa response ca from the other side, presenting them with a row of black and foul-slling sludge, the topmost layer being a grey-white muddy stone layer.
"Officer Xu, lend your shovel please."
"Wait a mont." Ji Weihua focused intensely upon hearing Dragon Soul's report, his eyes gathering a fierce look.
"Is there a problem?" Xiao Lin tested the shovel in his hand, the folding shaft was light, hollow in design, allowing for length adjustnts based on need.
"If I heard correctly, your people said nothing's under there?" Ji Weihua tried to step within a two-ter range but was stopped by Xiao Lin's glare.
"That's right, what of it?"
"If there's nothing, then..." Ji Weihua took a deep breath, feeling confident now, unconcerned with who they were, he stepped forward into the two-ter zone without hesitation.
With a swoosh, an unfolded shovel stabbed the ground in front of Ji Weihua's toes. He stumbled back a couple of steps to regain his footing, staring at the shovel embedded in the cent floor, the handle still trembling. Xiao Lin eyed Ji Weihua, his eyes silently warning like a final sign not to cross the line.
"Officer Xu, another shovel please." Xiao Lin casually used the shovel to sift through the debris in front of everyone. Master Shuai stepped forward to try and pull the embedded shovel out, but after several tries, it didn't budge. He turned to his brothers with a shake of his head, his admiration for Xiao Lin reaching a new height. (To be continued.
