"How’s your partner? I know a few good doctors."
"It’s fine, she has her own doctor. We are heading that way. Don’t worry, I’ll be back tomorrow, and we can talk then." Xia Xue hung up the phone. "Yao Zheng is at our doorstep, and he doesn’t seem to be startled by anything."
"Dan Qing must be sent back to the city center for treatnt!"
"I think we should wait until Ling wakes up to arrange it!"
In a small bar that could only fit seven or eight tables, a few couples sat scattered. In the dim light, shadows flickered, and one could easily guess what they were up to. There weren’t many actual drinkers here, and the presence of two middle-aged n among them felt particularly odd.
Ignoring the curious stares from others, this area belonged to a jurisdiction-free zone: not in the North District, nor in the old town, and quite a distance from the city center. Choosing this place was understandably safe. Even patrolling police wouldn’t focus on a bar under 100 square ters. No crowd, no cri—it’s a typical criminal logic, slightly amusing.
"What’s so urgent that you need to see ?" Wang Zhanting asked the waiter for a bottle of liquor, and after adding ice cubes to two glasses, poured the drinks, swirling it as the clinking of ice against glass created a drinking atmosphere.
"Why did you choose this place?" Yao Zheng’s gaze nervously swept around, aware that the stares hadn’t shifted from them. He didn’t want to beco the topic of these people. "This is not the place to talk. Let’s move sowhere else."
"Heh... Sit down." Wang Zhantian pressed down the restless Yao Zheng. "There’s no safer place than here."
"What a joke." Yao Zheng noticed soone staggering drunkenly towards them and quickly turned away, using his back to shield himself.
"Look at you, so tense. Relax, there’s no one else here. No one will recognize us." The drunkard turned into a corridor leading to the bathroom five or six steps away. "You’re too concerned about others’ views."
"It’s never wrong to be cautious. Haven’t you heard about what happened this morning?" Yao Zheng lowered his voice. The bathroom was nearby, and there were many coming and going.
"Ah, how could such explosive news be unknown? Let’s drink! We haven’t t for a while." Wang Zhantian didn’t continue with the topic Yao Zheng raised but instead raised his glass and took a big gulp.
"I’m not here to drink." Annoyed, Yao Zheng pushed his glass aside. "I’m not in the mood."
Wang Zhantian chuckled. "We’ve known each other for years. Compared to my brother, you should be grateful I’m easier to talk to. Otherwise, who would et with you under these circumstances? People are busy protecting themselves!"
"What’s the word from the municipal committee? Anything definite?"
"Nothing like that is confird. But now that Hua Qingyi is going to the North District, it’s clear what Hua Muyun intends to do. You had better not have any incriminating evidence on you, or no one will be able to save you. This is the first step in pushing Hua Qingyi onto the political stage. The North District is too peaceful, you understand?"
Yao Zheng sighed deeply; it’s nothing to be pleased about. Seeing this, Wang Zhantian pushed the rejected drink back towards him. "Coming to a bar is about drinking. If you really don’t want to arouse suspicion, act more naturally." Seeing Yao Zheng remained stubborn, he clinked his glass against Yao Zheng’s. "The people here won’t stay long. Even though it’s not a big place, you never know if there’s soone living off selling information here. Be patient; since I’ve agreed to et, naturally I have my considerations."
Yao Zheng took a breath, reluctantly sipping his drink.
Ti passed slowly, but inevitably, just as Wang Zhanting said, people only left but none entered. "How do you know so much about this place?" Yao Zheng couldn’t help asking out of curiosity.
"The owner here is our own people. How else would they survive without trade?" Wang Zhantian hinted but Yao Zheng understood. "The place is small; we’re positioned near the edge for a reason."
"Assigned location?"
"Pretty much. While it suggests doing things openly rather than secretly, there are also advantages to doing it openly. Don’t you agree?" In the dim light, Wang Zhantian grinned. "So, what exactly have you asked here for? As I understand it, my brother acquired sothing from you, and now this matter has involved Dragon Soul, dragging in two people. Is that right?"
"He did take so things from , but he didn’t say what he planned to do with them." Yao Zheng hadn’t heard anything about Wang Zhanting. "What’s the problem? What happened?"
"Heh, Hua Muyun really keeps his information under wraps!" Wang Zhantian grit his teeth like a gnashing beast.
"What’s wrong?"
"It’s nothing; it’s a Wang family affair. It’s just that this ti the entire family might get dragged into it." Wang Zhantian shook his head, acting as if Dragon Soul was still unaware of the matter. "Do you know who’s responsible?"
"The BOSS! She gave a week to address the issues in the North District, and there’s only two days left." Yao Zheng sighed.
"What’s the situation in the North District now? Do you have any leverage falling into Hua Qingyi’s hands?" This was what Wang Zhantian feared the most.
"I don’t know right now, but I’m very certain Yan Juanjuan is quite a disadvantage to ."
Hearing this, Wang Zhantian laughed obsequiously. "Can’t even handle your own woman? I told you long ago that soone like her isn’t easy to provoke, but you wouldn’t listen. Heh... I warned you not to fool around outside. The more they’re wholeheartedly devoted, the more likely they might sell you out one day out of love turned into hate."
"I underestimated things." Yao Zheng seed to admit his mistake. He hadn’t put much thought into Yan Juanjuan, assuming her devotion was only natural.
"So, what are you going to do about this woman now?"
"She’s locked up sowhere, and right now, Hua Qingyi is looking everywhere for her."
"Nonsense!" Wang Zhantian growled. "You’re exposing yourself by doing this! If she has evidence against you and Hua Qingyi is looking for her, what does that indicate? Isn’t it obvious?"
"He’s looking for her because I’ve pinned all the evidence on her, so..." (To be continued. If you like this work, welco to visit Qidian (qidian) for recomndation tickets and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
