"What do you really want?"

"Tell your purpose, and I might consider letting one person go. Tell where the other person is, and I'll release you and your colleague."

"I don't know where the other person is!"

"Alright, let's start with the first question. You say you're not interested in our brick kiln factory, so why did you sneak in?"

"If I tell you, will you let go?"

"Yes!"

"I'm here looking for soone, a woman nad Yan Juanjuan." Wang Xi blurted out everything in one breath, staring at Shuang Shuang.

"Oh, is that so?" Shuang Shuang covered her mouth and laughed. "I'm really sorry, but there's no woman by that na here."

"Who lives behind the fence?" Wang Xi struggled against the chains on his hands. He didn't believe Yan Juanjuan wasn't hidden here.

"Tsk tsk tsk, you're really quite the fool, barging in without even doing the most basic investigation. I'm not sure what to say about you. However, since you've discovered my secret, keeping a police officer like you is also a troubleso thing."

"You lying bastard!" Realizing what Shuang Shuang ant, Wang Xi yelled out.

Hehehe! "Did I promise you anything?"

The door closed, blocking out the last bit of light. Wang Xi hung his head dejectedly, exhaling deeply. His facial expression was unclear, and his murmuring was inaudible, like a death row inmate on the brink of losing his mind.

Shi Shuai and Li Wei were pushed into a not-so-unfamiliar place. After being on the run, their final destination turned out to be the starting point. Ji Weihua stared in astonishnt at the two people brought in, speechless for a few seconds.

"Report, Director Ji, these are the two suspects." As the police officer spoke, Brother Guang also looked up. He was sorting through so files, with no impression of the unexpected visitors, though one seed vaguely familiar.

"What's going on?" Director Ji approached Shi Shuai without ordering their release and questioned the police officer.

"We received a tip-off about a vehicle carrying illegal weapons, and we found the evidence in their car."

"Oh!" Director Ji nodded. "And these two are..."

"Director Ji, we're on a case. There might be so misunderstanding," Shi Shuai imdiately clarified, believing Ji Weihua wasn't a petty person.

"What should we do about this?" Ji Weihua showed a troubled expression, glancing at Brother Guang. "Ah Guang, you're the encyclopedia of our bureau. How do you think we should handle this matter?"

Shi Shuai was surprised that, after much hesitation, Ji Weihua tossed the issue to the greasy-haired, stuttering guy. He was so angry he wanted to jump, but Li Wei held him back.

"Director Ji, this kind of thing has two sides, but I believe our North District colleagues wouldn't act like this." Brother Guang adjusted his glasses, looking at the two in the middle. Shi Shuai, who was inwardly cursing, almost went berserk at Brother Guang's next words. "But police these days often exploit their positions. I think it requires careful investigation to ensure nothing else illegal is happening. Since evidence was found in their car, they should've known about it."

"Damn it, what the hell do you know?!" Li Wei couldn't hold Shi Shuai back, seeing him advance, ready to punch Brother Guang. Thankfully, a quick-thinking police officer pinned him to the table.

"See how impulsive he is? I must've hit a nerve. Director Ji, I think we should imdiately file a case and investigate. Who knows what other illegal activities they're hiding? Didn't Director Han face a similar situation before?"

"Hmm, detain them for now. I'll conduct the interrogation later." Ji Weihua nodded, agreeing with Brother Guang. "Oh, you can join then."

"Yes, I'll get ready right away." Brother Guang put down his half-sorted files and eagerly ran out.

"You can leave too." Ji Wei waved away the police, leaving only Shi Shuai and Li Wei. "I didn't expect Director Xu to have such a character under his command, it's really a pity."

"Ji Wei, don't speak nonsense. We haven't done anything." Shi Shuai shouted loudly at Ji Wei.

"Why, planning to hit ? Go ahead, I won't fight back at all. I can even charge you with assaulting an officer."

"You..." Li Wei held Shi Shuai from behind and whispered in his ear, telling him not to fall for the old fox's trick. "Hehe, Director Ji, you don't need to use reverse psychology on . The goods on the car were originally ant to be brought back for inspection. You've conveniently helped us find them, saving us a lot of trouble."

"How did you know sothing was wrong with that brick kiln factory? As far as I know, that factory has been operating lawfully for many years. But with you guys, it suddenly becos a rogue factory. Isn't this all too coincidental?" Ji Wei walked around to the other side of the desk, picked up the phone to inquire about the preparation of the interrogation room.

Shi Shuai's mind was a bit muddled, and he was slow to respond to Ji Wei's question.

"Director Ji, we'll cooperate with you to get to the bottom of this. But can you let us inform our director first? Misunderstandings need to be clarified so that it won't be awkward for everyone." Li Wei humbly applied to Ji Wei, unlike Shi Shuai's impulsiveness.

"Want to call your boss? Does Director Xu really count as your only boss? Do you know where you are? What does North District Police Station even count for? Don't think you're all that just because you have backing from the city committee. Nothing special even if people are directly transferred from the committee. Understand that I'm your superior." Ji Wei slamd the table sharply, glaring with wide eyes.

"What superior? You're not even a director yet, just a departnt supervisor. Each minding their own business, just doing my job." Shi Shuai spoke with a tone everyone could hear, deliberately challenging Ji Wei.

"Director Ji, the interrogation room is ready. Brother Guang asked if you want to go over now?" A female assistant walked in after knocking on the door.

"Hmm, I'll go over now." With that, Ji Wei strode out of his office, and Shi Shuai and Li Wei shrugged at the policewoman, following her.

A shadow flew through the air, landing efficiently behind a wall. The breeze made the wolfhound on the ground twitch an ear, it raised its head slightly to glance around, saw nothing unusual, then crouched down on the ground again, panting with saliva dripping from its mouth.

Sumr was officially in full swing, and even in the evening, the hot breeze and heat waves persisted, though not enough to warrant turning on the air conditioning. The dryness and dust in the air ant windows were tightly shut, inadvertently turning the room into a stuffy box.

The air conditioner's external unit buzzed. The security guards at the brick kiln factory were living comfortably, acting as the first line enforcers and watchdogs. The shadow clung to the wall, not making a move imdiately but crouching down, pressing itself tightly against the wall, blending seamlessly with the darkness.

Facing the brightly lit house, the shadow raised both hands, grabbing the edge of the wall in an unusual backhand grip impossible for ordinary people, flipping over and perching nimbly on the wall.

Wang Xi's whereabouts were unknown, but he must still be alive. Xiao Lin supported himself on the ground with one hand, pulling out two sharp nail spikes from his black combat boots with the other, wrapping them in his palm. Ever since using Consort Ling's weapon in Yao Zheng's office, he had recently beco enamored with such exotic weapons.

Guard crafted two weapons that matched his personality, lightweight, compact, yet razor-sharp. The special tallic material made these spikes appear more transparent at night. Unlike Consort Ling's weapon, the spikes forged for Xiao Lin had a limited lifespan.

Whenever Xiao Lin used the spikes to kill or injure soone, blood would gradually seep into the surface of the spikes. When they beca entirely blood-red, it signified the end of their lifespan.

Xiao Lin once asked the reason for this, but Guard simply smiled and withheld the answer, saying he would naturally tell Xiao Lin when the ti ca. To this, Xiao Lin could only categorize Guard as one of the mysterious types, much like himself.

As the windows began to go dark one by one, Xiao Lin jumped down from the wall, headed in one direction. If Wang Xi's information was correct, then Yan Juanjuan was being held sowhere within this enclosure.

A few leaps and he landed on the courtyard soil, only realizing the strangeness of the soft ground underfoot after he hit the earth, as if standing on a pile of soft fabric. When trying to pull one leg up, he felt the other side of his body sinking slightly.

A swamp? No, impossible. Such wetlands couldn't exist in this climate. Xiao Lin softened his body to prevent exertion of any force, surveying his surroundings to estimate the clay's extent. There was only one chance to escape. Any miscalculation could lead him deeper. He didn't feel like he had reached the bottom yet. How deep was this pit? It remained unknown.

While pondering, a beam of light shone down from above, illuminating Xiao Lin. The sudden brightness in the darkness made him close his eyes briefly. After a mont of adjustnt, he reopened them to see Wang Xi suspended in the distance. Mingling confusion with realization, he stood still.

"Such an impatient man. Another day, and you could have seen your companion. You've wasted so much of my ticulous effort," said the man standing beside Wang Xi. Xiao Lin recognized him as Shuang Shuang, who had previously been with Wang Xi.

The gap between them was about two ters. The reason Xiao Lin couldn't find Wang Xi was because he had been here all along? Then... (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, feel free to visit Qidian (qidian) to recomnd and vote. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
