Wu Mian walked into the North District Police Station alone, with only one person accompanying him, while the others who followed him spread out outside the police station in plain clothes, observing the surroundings, always maintaining vigilance. Wu Mian wanted to dispatch so people to follow Hua Muyun, but was refused, and he remained in a wait-and-see attitude toward the vacant position of the district police chief, observing the people within this police station.
Ji Weihua had been waiting for this person's appearance. Hua Muyun was still at the district governnt, so he was anxious, each minute felt so long. He originally thought that the people from the city committee would co to his police station first, as the phone notification was related to a bombing case. Like Yao Zheng, he didn't expect the person coming to be Hua Muyun. This change made the current situation even more chaotic.
Wu Mian walked along the corridor of the district police station, and no one stopped him. The reason was none other than that the people following him eliminated these obstacles one by one.
"Director Wu, just ahead is Ji Weihua's office. Do you want to go in directly or go to the director's office."
"To the director's office." Wu Mian answered without a second thought. "Let him co see ."
"Yes!" Wu Mian walked directly into Han Fei's office. As soon as he entered, his eyes furrowed despite the aningfulness of this environnt to him, not showing it on his face but opening the windows himself, letting so fresh air into the long-sealed room.
When his fingers brushed over the desk and chair, they picked up a thick layer of dust, and his eyes filled with noticeable anger. It was not hard to see that Wu Mian was a neat freak. He spread a newspaper over the chair and its back, laid a few more across the table, and only then hesitantly sat down to wait for Ji Weihua's arrival.
A knock on the door ca shortly after Wu Mian sat down. "Co in!"
Ji Weihua appeared in Wu Mian's sight wearing his uniform. The embarrassnt on his face beca all the more amusing when he saw the person amidst the pile of newspapers. Wu Mian's lips rose as he awaited the section chief's opening words.
"Director!" Ah, a sowhat disappointing start. Wu Mian nodded, signaling him to sit as he pleases; since he could sit, you should be able to as well.
The unattended room was filled with germs and dust. Ji Weihua originally wanted to invite Wu Mian to his office, but seeing him sitting amid waste newspapers, he swallowed his words. No one wants to dirty clean clothes in a filthy place.
"Can't sit down?" Seeing Ji Weihua's hesitant manner, Wu Mian spoke. This director was quite a mysterious figure, rarely seen unless for significant matters.
"No!" Bracing himself, Ji Weihua sat down across from Wu Mian.
"Go check if our other guest has arrived, I don't want him held up outside."
"Yes, Director, I will wait in the lobby." The follower saluted and closed the door.
"Is there another one?"
"Hmm, start by reporting your work."
Ji Weihua was taken aback by his question, not knowing where to start. "Yesterday, a brick kiln explosion occurred in the North District, with over a hundred deaths, and the cause is currently under investigation."
"That's it?"
"I don't know what aspect the director wants to inquire about, currently only this explosion case is unresolved."
"Oh, I see! The public security in the North District is still excellent, no problems."
Ji Weihua could hear the sarcasm in this remark, and he stared blankly at Wu Mian. "Previously, several murder cases were reported to the city from your side, are there any developnts now? Were you aware of the previous assault on the original investigators in the North District?"
Without waiting for Ji Weihua to speak, Wu Mian questioned again. "I've watched the press conference regarding the office hostage case in your North District. Do you think people are fools? What were your closing argunts? Additionally, was the northern suburb fire caused by a gas explosion? At that ti, all the restaurant staff were not present. Such simple vulnerabilities, even an ordinary citizen could think of such doubts, yet you publicly reported it. How are you running the investigation division? How was the case solved? Where is the perpetrator?"
"I..." Ji Weihua moved his lips, unable to utter a word.
"Ji Weihua, you still have a chance now. Don't wait until I lay the facts before you to deny them. By then, it will be too late."
Whether explicit or implicit, Wu Mian had already put him in a precarious position, revealing how well he understood so of the North District's inside stories.
"Director, I don't understand your aning. Has soone been speaking behind my back, making you think this way about ?" Ji Weihua showed a face of grievance while calculating inside. Doing this line of work, these kinds of divide-and-conquer tactics are used most frequently, usually to probe the bottom line of the other party, seizing any subtle changes to gauge the other.
Wu Mian chuckled twice, eting Ji Weihua's eyes directly. "You are a very good subordinate, but very foolish."
"Director Wu!"
"But I can understand your foolish actions. With your talents, sitting in this position is still a bit strenuous. If Yao Zheng hadn't been backing you, do you think there's no one under you more outstanding than you?" Not that he wanted to belittle Ji Weihua, but reports received from lateral angles reflect his arrogant deanor.
"Is the director denying my work ability?" As soon as he spoke, Ji Weihua felt impulsive, internally feeling wronged by this unfair arbitrariness. "Even if I haven't achieved anything, I've worked hard, right? The North District has always been peaceful, and my cooperation with Director Han has been harmonious. I don't understand where Director Wu's statent is coming from? Personally, I am dissatisfied with this."
"Oh, quite a temper there!" Wu Mian wasn't angered by Ji Weihua's retort; he simply laughed heartily. "Good, very good, I hope Director Ji can maintain such a mindset and posture till the end. Since you've already given up the last opportunity, I hope you co prepared for assuming this responsibility in the future.
"Director Wu, if you are angry about the previous incidents in the North District, I will do my utmost to find the real culprit, but you can't define as an incapable person for this." Ji Weihua still wanted to argue for himself, but Wu Mian had already gestured for him to stop.
"Director Ji, there was plenty of ti to understand the cases, yet you never did. This ti, you've captured two police officers accused of arms trafficking, where are they now?" (To be continued.
