In just a fleeting glance, Xiao Lin's attack halted. Due to this mont of hesitation, the shadow's right palm powerfully struck forward, landing squarely on Xiao Lin's right shoulder. Caught completely unprepared, he stumbled back two or three steps, and when he looked up again, the person was gone. Alone in the desolate alley, his dark eyes were a mix of distraction, confusion, and disbelief.

Rubbing his struck right shoulder, Xiao Lin returned to the scene of the gunfight, where a few policen gathered in small groups, smoking and chatting. Occasional cryptic laughter drifted over; no need to guess what they were talking about—n gathered together always circle back to won.

Taking advantage of their inattention, Xiao Lin slipped inside the police cordon. At dawn, more police would arrive. Witnessing the scene ruined by chaotic footprints, Xiao Lin frowned.

"Hey!" a smoking policeman noticed Xiao Lin standing at the scene. He shouted at him, tossing away his cigarette butt and walking over. "What are you doing here?"

Xiao Lin turned his back on him, showing no response to his questioning. After the corpses were cleared, only the outlined forms remained on the ground; he missed the chance to identify the person from the deceased.

A hand landed on his shoulder, barely feeling the fabric before Xiao Lin flipped the policeman over with a shoulder throw. Assaulting an officer! It's the sa in every country. The upside-down officer stared in shock and disbelief, appearing almost humorous, yet it didn't deter the others. Two or three officers pinned Xiao Lin to the ground, cuffed him, and loaded him into a car without hesitation.

Seated in the dry cell, Xiao Lin was surrounded by a few thuggish figures, curious and amused by this oriental man. Finally, one braver individual approached Xiao Lin.

"Kid, what cri did you commit?" The man reached out to touch Xiao Lin's face but was blocked, the unwelcoming aura scaring the man away.

Xiao Lin surveyed his surroundings, wriggling his handcuffs, provoking clinking sounds that incited laughter from others.

"Look at this guy, he's a total lunatic. What does he think he's doing?" Unable to approach, a man attempted to regain so dignity through words. "Trying to learn Chinese kung fu? Hey, kid, this is made of steel; can you break it?"

"Hahaha, his skin is so smooth and delicate, like an unripe chick!"

"I bet he uses his ass..." Another burst of laughter erupted; in their eyes, Xiao Lin had beco a pretty boy relying on his looks. But this mockery ceased when a moving shadow stood before them, and soone suffocating in chains emitted a piercing cry for help.

"Police! Police! Help, there's murder happening!"

The guard walked over, wielding a baton, and knocked on the iron bars. "You, co out. Soone's here to bail you out!" The slightly annoyed officer unlocked the door, the sound of his baton overshadowing the raucous voices, while Xiao Lin remained silent throughout. He loosened his handcuffs and followed the officer out of the cell.

In the police chief's office, the sweaty chief paced nervously back and forth; he always seed agitated for no apparent reason—perhaps he was just naturally like that.

"Thank you very much for your help this ti, Chief Salive!" Francis, wearing a hat, gracefully stirred her coffee; its instant taste always made it hard for her to swallow. Here, this brand of instant coffee was the best the chief could offer, but as a person of discerning taste, Frances couldn't force herself to embrace such civilian standards, at least not in food.

"No problem! We..." Salive half-spoke, realizing it wasn't wrong to proceed as he did—why confess a mistake when assaulting an officer was indeed factual? "We didn't know this gentleman was a friend of Miss Genovis. I believe there's a misunderstanding, so hopefully you won't take it to heart."

"Chief Salive, you're my elder; just call Frances!" Frances hesitated with the paper cup in hand, slightly furrowing her brows, taking a sip of the dark coffee. "If it's unnecessary, please don't let my friend know it was who bailed him out—I'd rather he didn't know."

"Of course!"

"Thank you very much for your help!" Frances stood up, slightly bowing to Salive—a noble etiquette compulsory for won in high society. In this regard, Frances excelled beyond Jessica, and in many families, the Genovis family's jewel beca highly sought after. Rumor even had it she was the predetermined bride for the current Godfather. Family alliances spice up peace and conflict alike.

Standing under the sun, Xiao Lin stretched his wrists, his gaze drawn to a few people covertly erging from the other side. Here, he knew few, and even fewer could easily bail him out; many aid for his life.

"Frances!" he called out to the girl just getting into the car, but his view was obstructed by several n.

"Xiao Lin, Mr. Xiao?"

Frances sensed she wasn't imagining; from the car, she looked out and saw no one else on the street. "Roy, did you hear soone calling just now? I think I heard soone shout my na." Frances questioned her driver, a seemingly honest and earnest young man.

"Oh, no, miss. You might have misheard!"

"Oh, is that so? Then let's proceed; Father is waiting for !"

Invited aside, Xiao Lin tidied his disheveled clothes, not expecting these people to treat him kindly. "What's going on?"

"Our boss wants to et you!" Xiao Lin was pushed into a signature black sedan, its outside obscuring the inside while offering a wide view outside from within.

"You again!" eting a pair of playful blue eyes, Xiao Lin leaned against the right car door, the lemon-scented perfu from the comfortable seat tickling his nose. "To trouble Sicily's largest Mafia boss for a personal eting, I feel quite uneasy!"

"How could I be rude to the future heir of the Xiao Family?" Nicholas tapped the glass partition, and the car smoothly entered the street. "Regarding our police, Mr. Xiao, any thoughts?" Nicholas rotated the ring on his thumb; an eagle diving with its claws clutching a struggling snake—a rather ornate design.

"Rude, ineffective, arrogant, foolish!" Xiao Lin spat out four descriptors, prompting Nicholas to burst into laughter. (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, feel free to visit Qidian (qidian) and cast recomndation votes or monthly votes. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
