Puchi!

When Gwen turned her head, she saw the Lizard's razor-sharp claws pierce through Felicia's chest without resistance.

Felicia's face was a mask of sheer terror. Even as she was tossed to the ground like common trash by the lizard monster, her eyes remained wide open, frozen in disbelief that her life was ending so abruptly.

Gwen stood frozen, her mind a total blank. As a teenage girl with an overflowing sense of justice, she instinctively blad Felicia's death on her own inadequacy.

If only I had been more careful... if I had noticed the cars on the bridge sooner... I could have saved them both!

Looking at Felicia's unblinking, lifeless eyes, a wave of suffocating guilt washed over Gwen. She felt like a murderer. Driven by a desperate need to atone for her mistake, she lunged forward recklessly, determined to bring the monster down.

"At least... you're going to face justice!"

Fury lent her strength. She successfully tackled the Lizard—whose serum was beginning to wear off—to the ground, straddling his chest and raining down punches.

Her fists blurred, turning the monster's face into a bloody ss despite his toughened scales.

But that was as far as it went.

While rage empowered her, it also caused her Spider-Sense to falter. The Lizard seized the opening, lashing out with his tail to bind her before swiping a claw across her abdon.

Fortunately, his limb began to destabilize and crumble mid-swing. Had it been at full strength, Gwen would have been disemboweled.

Seeing his own powerful right arm disintegrate into gray ash, the lizard monster looked as if he were witnessing his worst nightmare.

He cast one final look at Gwen, whom he had slamd back to the pavent, and the circling police choppers above. He didn't dare stay. He scrambled up the bridge's steel girders and vanished into the night.

Gwen struggled to her feet, wanting to give chase, but the distance was too great and the sound of approaching sirens was getting louder.

Recalling her encounter with the police at noon, she forced herself to calm down. Clutching her bleeding stomach, she swung away on a web, disappearing into the shadows.

Osborn!

Looking at his completely collapsed right arm, Curt Connors—now rapidly regressing from a monster back into a man—had only one na on his mind. He had to get back to Oscorp Tower to inject more serum. And...

He wanted revenge. He wanted Norman Osborn, a man who treated human lives like blades of grass, to pay.

CRASH!

The Lizard smashed through the glass curtain wall on the ground floor of Oscorp. Employees and security guards in his path were shredded by his claws.

He stumbled toward his lab, completely unaware that outside the window, a figure in dark green tallic armor, standing atop a high-tech glider, was watching his every move.

"Curtis Connors?"

The "Green Goblin"—or rather, Norman Osborn—let out an exaggerated, manic grin. His eyes sparkled with a mix of scientific curiosity and madness.

"It seems my 'backup plan' was a success... or perhaps a failure?"

Wheee-hee-hee!

As a half-transford Connors reached for a fresh vial of serum, the Goblin let out a shrill shriek and dived. The Goblin Glider shattered the glass, and with a blur of speed, he snatched the entire case of Lizard Serum into his own hands!

Seeing his "hope" stolen, a ntally unstable Connors roared, reaching out to grab the airborne Goblin. But his strength was fading; he had reverted to human height. He couldn't touch the agile glider, and instead, he was left bloodied by the Goblin's razor-bats.

"Oh, poor, pathetic Connors! Look at you, so worthless—"

Noticing that Connors' scales were about to vanish entirely, the Goblin swooped down and injected a third of a vial into the doctor's neck.

To Norman, this was the "sweet spot"—enough to keep the beast alive, but not so much that he beca an uncommunicative animal.

The Goblin hopped off his glider and removed his mask.

"Osborn?" Connors growled, his voice a low hiss.

"I'm glad you still recognize ," the Goblin sneered, looking down at him. "But Norman Osborn is dead. You should call ... the Green Goblin!"

"YOU! SHOULD! DIE!" the half-man, half-lizard shrieked.

The Goblin ignored the outburst, pacing in a circle around Connors as he analyzed him. "Unstable... it seems your genetic chain, like mine, is on the verge of collapse."

The Goblin instantly realized the Lizard Serum was a flawed product, even worse than his own Performance Enhancer. At least he was sane (or so he thought, believing he had killed his weak personality), while Connors had created an uncontrollable beast.

He needed a real cure. A formula that could retain the power but perfectly stabilize the genes—saving himself, Harry, and their future generations from the family curse forever.

To achieve this, one na surfaced in his mind: Peter Parker.

Because Connors' reports had detailed how Peter helped solve the Decay Rate Algorithm, the Goblin was convinced that this young man—or rather, the research left behind by Peter's parents—held the key to saving the Osborn lineage.

Yes! Him!

In the blink of an eye, a twisted plan ford in the Goblin's mind.

"Listen, you pathetic creature!" The Goblin ignored Connors' snarling and shouted with a manipulative, grandiosely high-pitched tone.

"We are not enemies! We are of the sa kind now! Both abandoned by this world... evolved into higher beings!"

The Goblin walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking out at the teeming traffic below. "Look at them! Fragile, stupid, lowly humans! We are ant to rule and enslave them—perhaps even transform them into our brothers, one by one!"

Listening to the Goblin, a thoughtful look flickered in the Lizard's eyes. A kingdom of lizards... that didn't sound bad at all.

"What do you want?" he hissed.

The Goblin's grin widened until it looked painful. "We must find Peter Parker imdiately. That boy is the key to our new world!"
