Chen Yu had a good idea why, but he didn’t say anything.
A short while later, the visiting team arrived.
Chen Yu imdiately spotted the tall and fierce-looking Ewing.
After arriving at the arena, he didn’t imdiately start warming up. Instead, he scanned the crowd for soone. He quickly locked onto Chen Yu by the stands and walked straight over.
"Chen!"
Ewing bead and gave Chen Yu a hug. It was the kind of hug that felt like being stuffed into a drainpipe, stuck and suffocating.
When Ewing finally let go, Chen Yu couldn’t help but say, "Patrick, you seem to be in a great mood."
"Of course," Ewing grinned. "You must have been too busy taking care of Penny to see the news on ESPN. Just yesterday, they ran a story about the health managent departnt we set up. They even said I finally did sothing right."
He pointed to himself, a proud expression on his face.
He’d shot his mouth off back in the day and nearly ruined his legacy. He’d been keeping his head down for the past two years, but now he’d finally made a coback.
"Is that so? Congratulations, then." Chen Yu hadn’t had any ti to keep up with dia reports.
Ewing’s smile grew even brighter. He insisted on pulling Chen Yu over to et Gary Payton.
Chen Yu had, of course, heard of the great "Glove" before.
However, Ewing joked that if Payton ever got injured, they should have Chen Yu treat him. The comnt earned an eye-roll from Payton, and Chen Yu couldn’t help but think, ’Not likely.’
The guy was famously an "iron man."
This was already his eleventh season, and he’d sohow managed to avoid any major injuries.
Under the Eye of All-Seeing, Chen Yu could see it clearly: Payton’s body showed no signs of past injuries.
Ligants, cartilage—everything was perfectly intact.
It was simply incredible.
’This guy’s physical condition is so good, they could do a study on him,’ Chen Yu thought.
’Then again, for a walking injury case like Ewing to have achieved so much, doesn’t that prove he’s actually the stronger one?’
Chen Yu didn’t want to disturb their warm-ups for long. After a brief chat about Hardaway’s condition, he returned to the stands.
Chen Yu had previously followed Hill to an away ga to get a feel for the NBA’s pre-ga routine.
Now, for a ho ga, there wasn’t much of a difference. If he had to point sothing out, it would be the better locker room.
’The visiting team’s locker room was old and decrepit. It had to be intentional.’
Just before the ga started, Brian arrived and cheerfully asked Chen Yu how it felt to be at a ho ga.
"Can I say it’s not that great?" Chen Yu gestured toward the court. "Before, I’d sit in the stands as a fan, just enjoying the ga and passing the ti. Now, I’m in the front row, and I have to constantly worry about players getting injured. You know how it is—accidents can happen at any ti."
Brian quickly cut him off. "Chen, don’t say things like that."
He was afraid Chen Yu would jinx them.
However, to Chen Yu’s surprise, it wasn’t an injury that struck, but a different kind of incident.
The ga officially began. J Kidd received the tip-off from Charalidis, and suddenly, a wave of loud boos erupted from the stands.
This stunned everyone.
This was the Suns’ ho court! Since when does a team’s starting point guard get booed by his own fans the mont he touches the ball?
Brian, standing beside him, was clearly stunned.
Chen Yu turned to look at the stands as well, trying to see what the fans were booing about.
The next mont, Chen Yu’s eyes narrowed.
In the main stands, a dozen or so female spectators suddenly took off their jackets, revealing the sweatshirts they wore underneath.
Printed on the sweatshirts in large letters was a single word.
BATTERER!
The word for a dostic abuser.
"Fuck," Brian beside him was already swearing, spittle flying. He grabbed his head with both hands, looking like he was about to lose his mind.
’This is being broadcast live!’
In the stands, so fans looked bewildered, probably still unaware of what was happening.
But the vast majority of fans knew about the situation. The local TV station had even scrambled a helicopter to film J Kidd’s house. It was hard not to know.
The crucial thing was that no one had expected anyone to pull a stunt like this.
J Kidd, on the court, had clearly seen it too. He completely froze.
Skiles shouted at him, and only then did he snap out of it, hurriedly dribbling the ball past half-court.
"Damn it." Brian ran off to get security and have them make the won put their jackets back on.
But it was already too late.
’The caras have probably already captured this mont,’ Chen Yu thought.
Chen Yu’s gaze fell on J Kidd.
’This guy... his ntal ga is probably shot.’
Sure enough, J Kidd’s performance for the rest of the ga was a disaster. He committed frequent passing turnovers, and his already shaky shooting beca even more inaccurate.
He was the assist king, the one steering the ship for the Suns. With him playing so poorly, the outco of the ga was a foregone conclusion.
The Supersonics crushed the Suns 106 to 87, winning by a full 19 points.
If not for an outstanding performance from Robinson, who exploded for 33 points after getting a warning, they would have lost by an even wider margin.
J Kidd, on the other hand, went 1-for-7 from the field, scoring a asly 3 points.
Chen Yu didn’t see Brian again for the rest of the ga.
Skiles’s face was grim with frustration; he could already imagine how frenzied the dia would be at the post-ga press conference.
Chen Yu, however, was fine.
As the team doctor, he was bound by NBA regulations. Except in special circumstances, team doctors were not allowed to give interviews to the press, as it could lead to leaks about a player’s physical condition.
So no matter how big this scandal blew up, it wouldn’t affect him.
’And after thinking it over calmly, this might actually be an opportunity to resolve J Kidd’s psychological issues.’
「The next day.」
In the hotel coffee shop, Chen Yu t Hill’s father, Calva Hill. He was a tall, sturdy, middle-aged man with a thick beard.
"Chen, thank you for healing Hill. He’s in excellent shape now," Calva said, opening with a torrent of thanks.
Chen Yu waved it off, and after a bit of small talk, he asked Calva the reason for his visit.
’Was this sothing that had to be discussed in person?’
Calva sat up straighter. "Here’s the thing. Grant ntioned that you used to have a clinic in Orlando. A doctor as talented as you should have his own private practice. After all, you could make a lot more money that way."
Chen Yu nodded, intrigued. ’What is he getting at?’
"So, I was thinking, if you’re interested, perhaps we could partner up. I would provide the capital to help you build a top-of-the-line clinic," Calva said with a broad smile.
Chen Yu was taken aback. He never expected this was why Calva wanted to et.
’Well... it’s not out of the question.’
Opening a clinic, especially a top-tier one, requires a significant investnt.
Even if Chen Yu was earning a million a year, he’d still have to save for a decade to build a clinic like that.
Chen Yu had previously considered partnering with a top doctor in the field, like Wash. Her family apparently owned a massive ranch in Texas.
Just as he was about to speak, Calva held up a hand, cutting him off.
"Chen, don’t answer just yet. You can take so ti to think it over," Calva said with a small smile. "Besides, I ca here about sothing else as well."
"I have a friend who has a player on his team that might need your help. I’m certain you’ve heard his na."
Calva very seriously recited a particularly long and tongue-twisting na.
Ronaldo Luiz Nazario da Lima.
It took Chen Yu a mont before it clicked. That was the great Ronaldo, the one nicknad "The Alien."
’Has my reputation already spread to the world of soccer?’
