By the time Shao Yunduan returned home, Qiao Xuan had already awakened from her slumber. Her eyes sparkled upon seeing him, and she greeted him with a smile. “What do you think? Was there quite a spectacle today?”
She wasn’t among the nobility who had access to the latest news through their own channels. She had to await Shao Yunduan’s return to learn anything.
Shao Yunduan stepped closer and planted a tender kiss on her lips. With a smile, he remarked, “My dear wife, since you came up with such a brilliant idea, of course there was quite a spectacle!”
Upon hearing his words, Qiao Xuan burst into laughter. The Qingdi delegation had stirred up quite a motion since arriving in the capital, and while the court couldn’t take action, the moners were being increasingly irate. Their humiliation this time around was a fitting response, and it would likely encourage them to behave more modestly in the future.
Qiao Xuan playfully plained, and Shao Yunduan smiled as he responded, “That’s the extent of it. The Prince of Qingdi and his entourage are heading to the Royal Hunting Ground for a hunt. I’m finished with my duties here, and we’re heading south…”
Qiao Xuan nodded, saying, “Excellent, just set a date, and we can depart at your convenience. The sooner we leave, the better.”
While the winter scenery in Jiangnan was beautiful, the journey was challenging. Both of them were determined to return home before the new year, so an early departure was preferable.
Qiao Xuan harbored concerns about their flower field and wondered how it would fare during the winter.
“It’s only a matter of a few days,” Shao Yunduan reassured her with a smile, his hands beginning to move playfully. “Let’s take a break.”
Blushing, Qiao Xuan grabbed his hands and chided, “What are you up to? It’s so late, and you’re still mischievous.”
Shao Yunduan chuckled. After sneaking around just a moment ago, he was now behaving openly and boldly. He leaned close to her ear, planting a kiss as he spoke in a husky voice, “I feel like I have too much energy and can’t sleep. My dear wife, you can take it easy tomorrow…”
He tenderly kissed her lips, gently applying pressure. Qiao Xuan couldn’t help but recline on the couch. She wrapped her arms around his neck and closed her eyes…
