Chapter 1669: Shouldn’t Mrs. Guan Give an Explanation?
Caiyue hurriedly intervened to stop Guan Jialing, while Lixia, frightened, assisted Qiao Xuan to a safer location.
People, startled by the motion, quickly regained their senses and rushed forward to help.
Anxiously crying out, Mrs. Guan pleaded, “Jia’er! Stop!” as she rushed forward to pull him away.
The already narrow corridor became even more crowded, with people pushing and colliding amid the chaos. The cacophony of screams and shouts intensified.
Lord Shao swiftly intervened, pulling Guan Jialing back from the turmoil. Mrs. Guan, fearing her son might be hurt inadvertently, struggled to keep pace.
“Jia’er, calm down! Don’t misbehave!”
Concerned that Qiao Xuan might retaliate against her son, Mrs. Guan sought to protect him and instructed those around her, “Take the young master home, be cautious, and avoid frightening him…”
The tumultuous atmosphere, filled with shouts and screams, distressed her son. Mrs. Guan’s heart ached at the thought.
Liqiu, Caihua, Qiaoqiao, and the others were present, and upon seeing Qiao Xuan unharmed, they sighed in relief.
As the scene gradually calmed, Mrs. Guan, looking at her son with concern, appeared as if he had been wronged. Qiao Xuan, incensed, sneered and addressed Mrs. Guan, “Mrs. Guan, don’t you owe me an explanation?”
All eyes turned toward them, and the madams and young ladies waited for Mrs. Guan’s response.
In the face of Qiao Xuan’s question, Mrs. Guan felt a mixture of embarrassment and irritation. She struggled to maintain posure, forcing a smile as she replied, “Madam Shao, the child is still young and thoughtless. Are you genuinely upset by such a child?”
Lixia and the others, infuriated by Mrs. Guan’s shameless behavior, glared at her with disdain.
Qiao Xuan sneered. “Indeed, the child is young and naive, but I would like to know, Mrs. Guan, where did he pick up such words? Who taught him this? When did I ever mistreat you, Mrs. Guan? Please clarify!”
Mrs. Guan, feeling a mix of anger and anxiety, retorted, “Children can be talkative. He might have said something without any basis. Madam Shao, why are you dwelling on this matter? Do you suspect that I instructed him? It’s absurd! Why would I teach my son to say such things? What benefit would it bring me to teach him that?”
That was Mrs. Guan’s response.
Qiao Xuan’s lingering suspicion further fueled Mrs. Guan’s frustration. She genuinely had not coached her son to make such statements; she had never uttered anything of the sort in his presence. Puzzled as to why her son had intervened on her behalf, she speculated that the nanny and maidservants might have shared something with him.
Mrs. Guan, however, saw her son’s actions as considerate rather than misguided. Moreover, he hadn’t harmed Qiao Xuan; he had merely kicked one of the maids a few times, which she considered inconsequential.
Seizing the moment to assert herself, Qiao Xuan coldly stated, “That is your concern, and it doesn’t involve me. If you don’t offer an explanation, this matter won’t be dropped!”
Suddenly, Qiao Xuan winced, placing her hands on her belly. “My stomach is in pain! It hurts!”
Lixia, Liqiu, and the others were thrown into a panic.
