The steward and eunuch responsible for palace protocol arrived at the gate to inform them that, according to regulations, members of Consort Su’s family were restricted to visiting her no more than once every two weeks. Additionally, their visits could not exceed two hours each time.
The two Sister-in-laws of the Su family were taken aback. This was unprecedented!
Naturally, they were incensed and began to argue vehemently with the steward and eunuch.
“In the past, we could e and go as we pleased, staying as long as we liked. Why the sudden change?” protested the Second Sister-in-law of the Su family, her temper flaring. “Why the fuss now? Our Father-in-law hasn’t even secured victory yet, and you’re already creating obstacles? I suggest you watch your step. Acting rashly now could lead to future embarrassment!”
The steward and eunuch exchanged knowing looks. What good would it do to lecture them? If they had an issue, they should take it up with the Emperor.
If the Emperor caught wind of this, the Su family would face even greater peril!
“Hmph, with your family’s attitude, no matter how many victories you achieve, your time will e…” muttered the steward and eunuch under their breath, but they maintained a pleasant demeanor outwardly. They smiled politely and explained that while flexibility may have been allowed in the past, the palace was now strictly adhering to regulations. This applied not only to Consort Su but to all concubines.
The two Sister-in-laws of the Su family had no choice but to accept this stern stance. They managed to save face by delivering a sharp rebuke to the steward and eunuch before departing defiantly.
The steward and eunuch couldn’t help but feel irked after being scolded.
Before long, news of the incident reached the Third Prince’s ears.
Enraged, he promptly denied the Su brothers’ request to visit Consort Su. Furthermore, he reprimanded the brothers and demanded they apologize to the officials they had assaulted.
They needed to make reparations to the fullest extent possible.
Regardless, they shouldn’t act so rashly. If there was an issue, they should address it through proper channels. Who would openly resort to violence? Did they not care about the dignity of the imperial court’s officials? Did they not value the reputation of the court itself?
If such behavior became monplace, it would be disgraceful!
The Su brothers felt deeply aggrieved and angered.
