Chapter 2278: In A Tizzy

After Shao Yunduan’s rise to prominence in Hangzhou City, the residents of Anze Province, like Qiao Xuan, were equally overwhelmed with excitement. Countless visitors arrived daily, bearing gifts and seeking to pay their respects.

Fortunately, the household had petent stewards like Taotao, Uncle Qing, Aunt Qing, and others under Zhao Shu, all intermediate experts. They adeptly managed numerous trivial matters, ensuring everything ran smoothly without any mishaps or misunderstandings.

Initially unsure how to handle the social demands, Ms. Fang learned from Taotao that as Madame Yuezheng and the Eldest Uncle of the Shao family, it was their responsibility to navigate these social obligations gracefully.

Initially hesitant to turn away guests, they eventually found a balance. Ms. Fang, skilled in reading body language, kept boundaries clear, preventing anyone from overstepping. In contrast, Eldest Uncle, naturally polite and accustomed to giving generously without expecting much in return, felt pelled to reciprocate kindnesses lavished upon him, driven by a deep sense of obligation and guilt if unable to do so.

This trait stemmed from his long-standing role in caring for the extended family’s second and third branches, always prioritizing generosity over personal gain. When others treated him well, he couldn’t help but feel indebted and sought to return the favor generously.

To be frank, this behavior bordered on sycophancy.

Yet, weren’t these clever individuals risking too much? They persistently sought favors from Eldest Uncle, some even making audacious requests.

Fortunately, astute stewards were attuned to the situation. Uncle Qing, sometimes acpanying them, offered timely guidance or even spoke on Eldest Uncle’s behalf in moments of urgency.

This occasionally thwarted the schemes of some, who would then mockingly accuse the stewards of overstepping their bounds, claiming they had no right to intervene and even urging Eldest Uncle to punish them severely to prevent insubordination.

Such conduct was unbeing of a wealthy household, where maintaining decorum and respect were paramount. Any such behavior towards outsiders risked embarrassing Lord Shao and tarnishing his reputation.

Upon hearing these plaints, Eldest Uncle became agitated, sometimes rebuking the stewards and Uncle Qing.

Fortunately, the stewards and Uncle Qing were wise enough not to disclose everything to Ms. Fang upon their return. When she eventually learned of the incidents, she was furious with Eldest Uncle, forbidding him from venturing out again.

However, two days later, a family arrived at their doorstep bearing lavish gifts and two beautiful maids, declaring their intent to serve Eldest Uncle!

Ms. Fang was livid!

She nearly pointed at Eldest Uncle’s nose and berated him for his shameless behavior at his age. How could he, at his advanced years, be causing such trouble for a girl not even 20 yet? He had barely enjoyed a few days of good fortune and already seemed to have forgotten his own dignity!

If it hadn’t been for Shao Dalang and Shao Sanlang intervening, Ms. Fang might have actually struck Eldest Uncle.

Eldest Uncle, who had been feeling somewhat pleased with himself, was taken aback.

Perhaps he had agreed to something in a moment of absent-mindedness, or maybe the whole affair was orchestrated by others without his knowledge to please him. Regardless, he genuinely hadn’t harbored such intentions.
