The soldiers who knew Meng Wanfu and Ding Xiang found the exchange amusing, while the Right Assistant Minister of Rites fumed with indignation. “You—”
He turned a sharp look at Shao Yunduan. “Lord Shao, are you going to allow such disrespectful behavior to continue?”
Shao Yunduan said calmly, “It seems someone here is being rather presumptuous. An eye for an eye sounds fair to me.”
The Right Assistant Minister of Rites was momentarily speechless.
Qiao Xuan couldn’t help but chuckle. It was rare for her husband to mock someone so publicly, and the old man’s ridiculous remarks made it even more amusing.

She sneered and challenged, “How can you be so brazen? If Lord Shao had been any weaker, you would have ensured his death. Now, you blame Lord Shao for your own despicable actions! It’s shameful to blame him for what you brought upon yourselves!”
