The two won were extrely worried; they didn't want their car to return to the water.
"Mister, let's talk it over. Can't you be less extre?" one of the won urged, trying to persuade Xu Qiming.
"Yeah, we've agreed to give you 50 bucks. Why not just go with the flow?" added another.
Lin Fan was sweating; these two won were truly peculiar. How do they manage to offend people with every word they say?
Xu Qiming grew more irritated as he listened. He had already decided not to earn this money, so he ignored whatever the two won said and tead up with his friend to tow their car back to its original place.
The two won were furious, jumping around and shouting insults, with one of them even breaking down in tears.
But no matter how they jumped and shouted, Xu Qiming paid them no heed, and soon their car was back in place, soaking in the water.
Watching this, Lin Fan couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction.
The two won were nearly fainting with anger and quickly turned to see Lin Fan nearby with a faint smile, which drove them even crazier.
"It's all your lousy idea. You caused this!" One woman pointed at Lin Fan and cursed.
"Right, it's all your fault, you broke bum! If our car gets soaked and ruined, you'll have to pay us!" The other one shouted, astonishingly holding Lin Fan responsible.
Lin Fan chuckled and said, "What's it got to do with ? Did I make it rain? Did I make the street flood? If you want to bla soone, first bla the weather, second bla yourselves; above all, bla yourselves. You're the ones who brought it on!"
His words were reasonable, leaving the two won unable to outcurse Lin Fan and driving them crazy with fury. In anger, one of them lunged forward to hit Lin Fan.
But Lin Fan quickly dodged, and the woman slipped and seed to be on the verge of falling. Her friend rushed over to keep her steady, but it was already too late; both of them lost balance and fell to the ground, soaked and in a sorry state.
Lin Fan chuckled and said, "Everyone here saw it — I didn't touch you. It's your own fault for falling."
At this mont, Xu Qiming had already driven the bulldozer back.
"Hey, buddy, it's my turn now!" A man called out at this ti, waving to Xu Qiming.
Originally, after finishing with the two won's car, it was supposed to be the man's turn, but he had been waiting half a day because of the commotion with the won.
Seeing that the chaos was finally over, the man hurriedly called to Xu Qiming.
But Xu Qiming shook his head and said to the crowd, "Sorry, everyone, I don't plan to continue with this. I can't help you."
After the incident with the two won, Xu Qiming felt disheartened and exhausted. He didn't want to continue; besides, he was truly worn out, having towed ten vehicles through the pouring rain for most of the night, feeling his body weak and weary.
If those two won hadn't made a fuss, he might have still had so motivation, but now he had none at all, feeling chilled to the bone.
Hearing Xu Qiming wouldn't continue, the owners of the remaining dozen cars were imdiately displeased.
"Hey, man, you can't do this. They wouldn't pay you, but I'm willing to pay!" a man said anxiously.
"Yeah, I'm also willing to pay. Isn't it a bit unreasonable to just quit like this?"
"Really, how can you do this? Working halfway and then stopping, isn't this like playing us?"
"It's really not fair. What are we supposed to do?"
The car owners spoke up one after another, mostly complaining about Xu Qiming.
Xu Qiming heard these words and felt even less inclined. But he did have a hint of a guilty conscience; after all, these owners did express a willingness to pay, and it seed inappropriate to let these two won affect them.
"Brother, I really don't want to continue, but that seems a bit unfair. What do you think I should do?" Xu Qiming asked Lin Fan.
Lin Fan smiled and said, "If you don't want to do it, then don't. There's nothing to feel bad about; you don't owe them anything."
Xu Qiming felt relieved and laughed heartily, "You're right, brother. To hell with fairness; I don't owe you anything, nor do I rely on you for my livelihood. If I say I'm not doing it, then I'm not doing it! I'll do whatever I damn well please!"
So, Xu Qiming ignored the complaints from the crowd of people; everyone was an adult, responsible for themselves, so why involve others?
"Thanks, brother; your guidance really helped. I'm much more at ease now," Xu Qiming said gratefully to Lin Fan.
Lin Fan smiled slightly, "I just really like reasoning things out."
Xu Qiming glanced at Lin Fan and asked curiously, "Brother, what have you been through? Why's your clothes torn like that?"
"Ah, it's you!"
Xu Qiming's friend suddenly exclaid in surprise, staring at Lin Fan, "The person in the news broadcast — is it you?"
Xu Qiming asked curiously, "What news broadcast?"
His friend replied, "Earlier, when I was stuck in the car, I watched the news and saw in a live broadcast a man rescuing a mother and child from the ruins. This brother here really looks like that person, so I wanted to ask."
Lin Fan nodded and graciously admitted, "That was ."
The friend was overjoyed and pumped his thumb up excitedly, "Brother, you're amazing! You know how people online are praising you, right? You're hailed as a hero who stands up for what's right. You did a good deed without leaving your na and just departed — it's so admirable!"
Xu Qiming was stunned; he hadn't realized Lin Fan was actually a rescue hero!
"Brother, you're truly remarkable, but I'm a bit puzzled. You're such an altruistic person, yet you support in charging fees?" Xu Qiming asked curiously.
Lin Fan replied, "It's quite simple, really. I believe you were right; doing labor and receiving compensation is perfectly justifiable. In short, you don't owe them anything, nor are you obligated to help them free of charge, which makes sense. If you want to help them tow their cars for free, that's your choice, which I can't control. How I handle things is my own business, but I won't demand others be like ."
Xu Qiming admired him imnsely; what a perspective this brother had, earning his utmost respect.
Lin Fan said, "Actually, I ca over to ask you if any of you have seen a woman — she's my friend..."
Lin Fan briefly described Loli's physical appearance.
The friend tried to recall and shook his head, "I don't think I've seen anyone like that, or maybe I just didn't pay attention. Sorry about that."
Xu Qiming, however, said, "On the way here, a woman stopped my car to ask for directions; she seed quite like the person you ntioned — very well-built and attractive, wearing a white shirt... but I'm not sure."
Lin Fan was thrilled; it was highly likely to be Loli. She might have ventured out to find him but got lost. He asked, "Where did she ask for directions?"
Xu Qiming pointed in a direction, "About a mile from here, at the Phoenix Street Intersection, and then she seed to head west."
Lin Fan smiled, "Great, thanks a lot, big bro."
Lin Fan imdiately bid farewell to the two and headed towards the Phoenix Street Intersection, as Xu Qiming suggested.
The rain was gradually easing.
At the Phoenix Street Intersection, it was quite dark, due to the power outage caused by the heavy rain.
"What do you want?"
At a corner of the street, Loli coldly demanded, facing four n surrounding her.
The four n were tall and beefy, visually sizing up Loli with sleazy eyes.
"Young lady, are you lost? Why run out while it's raining at such a late hour?"
"You're soaked; it's quite alluring. Want to co to our place and change clothes?"
"And take a hot shower, with a warm big bed."
As they spoke, they all burst into laughter, with their chuckles filled with cynicism.
