Chapter 113. Unexpected Calamity
Seizing the chance, the black-armored Legend broke free of the chain, flipped to her feet, and looked at William with a complicated expression in her eyes. When she spoke her thanks, her voice carried the clear brightness of a woman.
“Thank you.”
William froze for a mont. He had not expected the other party to be female.
He then waved a hand, his tone flat. “You misunderstand. I’m not trying to stop you from fighting.”
He lifted his eyes toward the legions standing ready behind him and said in a low voice, “My army is on its way back, and there are too many n here. This is not a suitable place to fight.”
“If you want to settle things, go fight sowhere else. Don’t let the aftermath injure my soldiers.”
The woman in black armor followed William’s gaze to the army formation below, and her face beneath the helt stiffened slightly.
She had only drawn the battlefield here because she could not defeat her opponent. She had intended to use the confusion of a great army to escape, but she had not expected this prince, who looked little more than a child, to be so sharp that he saw through her intentions at a glance.
Driven into a corner, she abruptly changed direction and charged straight toward William’s army, clearly intending to create chaos and escape in the confusion.
“Courting death!” William shouted sharply.
The deputy legion commander beside him reacted at astonishing speed. In an instant, Dou Qi surged forth, and he shot forward like a black bolt of lightning, intercepting the black-armored female Legend head-on. Their swords collided with a shrill clang, and he forcefully blocked her advance.
anwhile, the gray-robed mage showed no hurry to act. Suspended in midair, he watched the commotion below with interest and let out a low chuckle.
“Heh. Interesting.”
“Say, little one, do you even know who she is? Interfere like this, and your entire kingdom may suffer for it.”
William’s eyes turned cold as he looked at the gray-robed mage.
“Who she is has nothing to do with . But anyone who tries to use my soldiers as a shield will pay the price.”
He gave the order to the deputy legion commander. “Take her down.”
The deputy legion commander accepted the order, and his attacks grew even fiercer.
The black-armored female Legend was already no match for the gray-robed mage, and she had been badly wounded. Now that she was being pinned down by the deputy legion commander, she quickly fell into a disadvantage. Sparks flew from her armor as it was struck again and again, and it was obvious she would not be able to hold on much longer.
Watching this scene, the smile on the gray-robed mage’s face deepened.
“So you really don’t know... She’s from the Radiant Sun Empire. If you lay a hand on her, those lunatics from the Radiant Sun Empire will never let it go.”
“The Kroll Kingdom may have so strength, but it still can’t withstand an empire’s retaliation.”
The Radiant Sun Empire?
At those four words, Marquis Peter stiffened slightly. There were only three empires in the central region of the continent, and the Radiant Sun Empire was one of them. If what the gray-robed mage said was true, then the Kroll Kingdom...
William, however, did not change expression, though inwardly he cursed.
He did not care what her background was. Since she had dared to play tricks right in front of him, she should forget about leaving unscathed.
He gave Darwin a look, and the giant dragon imdiately understood. With a beat of his wings, he spat a stream of golden Dragon Breath at the gray-robed mage.
The mage had not expected the dragon to attack without warning. He hastily raised a dark green shield, but the Dragon Breath scorched it until it crackled violently, and his expression instantly darkened.
“Little one, you are seeking your own death.”
“Whether I am or not, you’ll know once you try,” William replied coldly.
“Zoe, pass down the order. Prepare the Gold Legion. I want both of these troubles left here. Under no circumstances are they to escape.”
The archers of the legion swiftly ford ranks. Bowstrings drew tight, and the arrowheads glimred with Dou Qi as they took aim at the two figures in the sky.
William stared at the deadlock overhead, cold light flickering in his eyes.
He then ordered Kru, “Take the mages and guard the periter. Set up a magic array. The two of them must not escape.”
Kru accepted the order in a deep voice and imdiately deployed the mages. Centered on the legion, they spread out in a fan-shaped formation, and an interwoven web of magical vigilance instantly unfurled, covering the entire area.
This man had dared to make a move against soone from the Radiant Sun Empire, which ant the force behind him could not be weak. If he were allowed to escape, there was no guarantee he would not bear a grudge against the Kroll Kingdom, and the retaliation he might bring later could be disastrous.
“What rotten luck.”
William cursed under his breath, his brows full of irritation.
To run into sothing like this on the way back was sheer undeserved disaster.
In the air, the gray-robed mage sensed the tightening encirclent around him, and his expression turned even gloomier.
“Little one, are you certain you want to take this all the way? The Radiant Sun Empire and the Blackgold Empire are not powers Kroll can afford to offend.”
“The Blackgold Empire?”
William raised a brow. He had seen that na before in ancient royal records. The Blackgold Empire was infamous for its domineering ways.
That ant the two of them absolutely could not be allowed to escape. They had to die.
Marquis Peter stepped to William’s side and said in a low voice, “Your Highness, neither of these factions is easy to provoke. Perhaps...”
“There is no perhaps.”
William cut him off, his gaze sharp.
“Since we’ve already run into them, there is no reason to let a tiger return to the mountain. They never took Kroll seriously to begin with. If we let them go today, tomorrow may well be the end of the Kroll Kingdom.”
He lifted his head and looked at the two of them in the sky. “Either surrender, or... die.”
The mont his words fell, Darwin roared again, golden Dragon Breath already gathering in his mouth, ready to strike at any ti.
The deputy legion commander also intensified his attacks. Cracks had already appeared in the black-armored female Legend’s armor. It was clear she would not last much longer.
The gray-robed mage looked at the legions below, all standing ready, then glanced at his mortal enemy nearby, who was in no better shape than he was. A trace of struggle flashed through his eyes.
He knew very well that if he forced the issue today, he would most likely gain nothing.
“Little one, very well,” the gray-robed mage said through gritted teeth. “We’ll rember this debt!”
With that, he suddenly exploded into a cloud of dark green smoke, and his figure began to fade within it.
“Trying to run?” William let out a cold snort. “Kru, now.”
The prepared magic array activated instantly. Dazzling light tore through the smoke, and the gray-robed mage’s figure was forcibly fixed in midair, drawing a cry of pain and fury from him.
At the sa ti, the deputy legion commander seized the opportunity. With a flick of his sword, he sent the black-armored female Legend’s weapon flying, then struck her with a palm and slamd her to the ground. Kru imdiately led n forward and subdued her.
William looked at the two bound captives, but his expression remained grim. This was only the beginning. The real trouble was likely still to co.
“Knock them unconscious first, then take them back to the Royal Capital and leave them to Father’s judgnt,” he told Kru. “Increase the pace through Mistpine Ridge. This is not a place to linger.”
The army set out once more, only now there were two tightly guarded prisoners in the column.
