Chapter 159. The Angel Clan’s Failure, Sothing Strange

At this mont, inside the great hall of a mysterious space, two voices with no discernible form drifted through the currents of the void, colliding in the emptiness like echoes from eternity.

“The Angel Clan actually dared to rebel?” One of the voices carried a trace of surprise, as though it were speaking of sothing utterly unbelievable.

“Yes, the news just arrived.”

The other voice was much more solemn.

“The Angel Queen has already led the wings of her clan completely away from the old order. She has declared that they will establish an order that belongs to them alone.”

“Heh.”

The first voice let out a mocking laugh, its contempt undisguised.

“How laughably naive. In that case, add another shackle to them and make them understand that so things are not so easily cast off.”

“But what should be done about Matthew?”

The solemn voice paused for a mont.

“After all, he married a Six-Winged Angel. I heard he dotes on her imnsely and is practically obedient to her every word.”

“There is no need to worry about him.”

The contemptuous voice was firm and decisive.

“I will speak with him personally. She is only an angel. If he knows what is good for him, he should understand what matters most.”

Silence returned to the great hall. Only the invisible pressure continued to flow slowly, as if it had already set the tone for the storm that was about to co.

Far away, on the other side of the river of stars, Matthew, who was lightly asleep with a Six-Winged Angel in his arms, frowned faintly, as though he had sensed sothing.

Elsewhere, deep in the distant starry river, billions of stars spread across the void like scattered shards of diamond, forming a brilliant curtain of light.

The Angel Queen floated at the front of her people, with countless angels behind her, their wings folded.

So looked uneasy, their wings trembling slightly. Others had bright eyes, unable to conceal their excitent at breaking free of their restraints.

Only the Angel Queen kept a furrow between her brows the entire ti.

From summoning the mbers of her clan stationed across the various continents to breaking through the outer defensive line, everything had gone far too smoothly, so smoothly that it did not seem real, as if an invisible hand were pushing them forward the entire way.

That kind of “smoothness” made her more uneasy than any obstacle could have.

Just as they were about to cross this stretch of the starry river and leave the Ancient Council’s sphere of influence, the starlight ahead suddenly twisted and gathered together, condensing into the figure of an elderly man.

He wore a gray robe, and a faint halo of laws surrounded his body. His voice was calm, yet it carried an unquestionable pressure.

“The Angel Clan has abandoned its post without authorization. Return with at once.”

A sharp light flashed through the Angel Queen’s eyes, and she wasted no words.

The six wings behind her abruptly spread wide. Holy divine power surged into her palm like a tide and transford into a dazzling spear of light that shot straight at the old man’s face.

The old man chuckled, his tone carrying a hint of cold mockery.

“A foreign race is still a foreign race. In the end, none of you can be trusted.”

He casually raised a hand, and an ancient ring of runes appeared in his palm. With effortless ease, he caught the spear of light.

BOOM...

Divine power and the runes collided, scattering countless star-like fragnts through the sky.

The Angel Queen felt an overwhelming force crash into her. Her arm went numb, and the spear of light shattered instantly.

The angels behind her cried out in alarm and spread their wings one after another, pouring divine power into her body.

“Hopelessly stubborn.” The old man shook his head, his gray robe billowing without wind. “Since you refuse to return, do not bla for enforcing it by force.”

The halo of laws around him suddenly blazed with intense brilliance, and even the starry river seed to tremble along with it.

As the Angel Queen looked at that ever-expanding halo, the unease in her heart finally turned into bone-chilling cold.

This was no ordinary enforcer. The aura on his body clearly carried the presence of the Law of Shackles.

“Form ranks,” the Angel Queen shouted sharply, every feather on her six wings standing erect.

“Today, we either break through this river of stars, or... we all perish together.”

The angels behind her exchanged glances, and their unease was replaced by resolve.

They spread their wings, and their holy radiance linked together into a single expanse, forming a stark confrontation with the old man’s halo of laws.

Yet after an unknown length of ti, the sounds of fighting deep within the starry river suddenly ca to an abrupt stop.

The old man looked at the unconscious angels. The power of laws gathered in his hand and sank directly into the depths of their souls. Then, with a sweep of his arm, he took the angels away from the place.

anwhile, because the war was going poorly and the Silver Oakleaf Royal Capital still had not fallen after repeated assaults, William rode his Giant Dragon straight to the outskirts of the Silver Oakleaf Royal Capital.

Before he departed, Kroll II had told him that the surrounding kingdoms had all begun to stir, deliberately moving closer to the Silver Oakleaf Kingdom’s borders, and had urged William to speed things up.

Riding atop Darwin, he halted on a high slope outside the Silver Oakleaf Royal Capital, his gaze fixed on the city shrouded in a pale golden magic array.

The city walls stood tall, and the defending troops on the arrow towers could be seen only dimly. Yet the anxiety and decay hanging in the air spoke more clearly than any fortification ever could.

“Your Highness.”

Kru, the commander of the First Gold Legion, rode up to his side, dismounted, and bowed. His armor gave off a dull clatter as it struck against itself.

William turned his head, and his voice carried a trace of exhaustion that was difficult to detect.

“Commander Kru, what is the situation inside the Royal Capital right now?”

Kru frowned and answered in a deep voice, “Reporting to Your Highness, it is already complete chaos inside.”

“Our scouts have sent back word that the city’s grain supply was exhausted long ago. They are only holding on by relying on the little that remains in the royal storehouses, but from what I can see, they will not last ten days.”

He paused, then looked toward the magic array flickering with runes, and his tone grew more solemn.

“As for this magic array... a few days ago, I sent in three elite squads disguised as infiltrators. The original plan was to locate the position of the array core, but to this day, not a single piece of information has co back. It is as though they vanished without a trace.”

William’s fingertips lightly stroked Darwin’s reins.

All three squads were battle-hardened Gold-Rank Combatants. It was impossible for all of them to fail at once unless... there was sothing inside the Royal Capital that they had not anticipated.

“Have there been any changes in the magic array’s mana fluctuations?”

“It’s very stable.” Kru shook his head.

In the distance ca the heavy thud of a battering ram crashing against the city gates, accompanied by soldiers’ shouts and the flashes of magical explosions.

The Gold Legion had launched yet another probing attack, only to be forced back almost imdiately by the rebounding energy of the magic array.

William lifted his head and looked toward the tallest tower in the depths of the Royal Capital, the residence of the Silver Oakleaf royal family.

It was brightly lit, as if still displaying its final shred of dignity.

He rembered Kroll II’s warning. The movents of the neighboring kingdoms hung over them like a blade suspended above their heads. They had to take the Royal Capital as quickly as possible.

“Send in another squad together with the Shadow Guard.”

William suddenly spoke, his gaze sharp.

“This ti, there is no need to look for the array core. They only need to find out what happened to the previous teams. Tell them that no matter the cost, they must get a ssage out.”

Kru froze for a mont, then nodded heavily. “Yes, Your Highness.”

“Pass down the order. Suspend the full assault,” he said to Kru. “Let the soldiers rest and reorganize. At the sa ti, tighten the blockade around the Royal Capital. Do not let even a single bird fly out.”

Since a direct assault would cost too much, then they would use Domain-Level Powerhouses to crack open this turtle shell.

William then went to find Lynn. After explaining his idea, Lynn agreed without hesitation.

Lynn had originally wanted to break the magic array at once, but William stopped him. He wanted to know what exactly had happened inside the Royal Capital.
