Lucius's Killing Curse had no effect on Voldemort at all.
Voldemort calmly brushed off his robe, smoothing the wrinkles left by the spell.
"Such crude ambush tactics," he said disdainfully.
"And the sa old Killing Curse… I've grown bored of it."
"Allow to show you sothing new."
As he spoke, Voldemort raised his right hand.
Death energy surged around it.
Black mist gathered together and transford into a massive black serpent, its forked tongue flickering as it slithered toward Lucius.
A wave of dread rose from the depths of Lucius's heart.
Instinct scread at him—
Do not fight that thing head-on.
"Bombarda!"
"Diffindo!"
"Reducto!"
Lucius unleashed several spells in rapid succession.
But they were useless.
So spells passed straight through the serpent.
Others rely stirred a little black mist before dissipating.
The serpent slowly crawled toward him.
Then it opened its enormous jaws.
And lunged.
Lucius tried to dodge—
But suddenly realized he couldn't move.
Looking down, he saw the reason.
He had been silently bound.
Black chains wrapped around his body, holding him in place.
He could only watch helplessly as the serpent approached.
At the critical mont—
Draco threw himself forward.
He tried to block the serpent's fangs with his own body.
"No! Draco, get away!" Lucius shouted in horror.
But it was too late.
The serpent's fangs were already inches from Draco's neck.
The only thing Draco could do—
Was close his eyes and wait for death.
Then—
A dark blur flashed past.
Sothing slamd into Draco and Lucius, knocking them aside.
The serpent's fangs struck that figure instead.
Draco waited for the pain.
But it never ca.
Slowly, he opened his eyes.
What he saw shattered his heart.
His dragon—
Hydra—
Had taken the attack for him.
Hydra was already lifeless.
Without life sustaining it, the dragon's previously shrunken body began slowly expanding back to its original size.
Voldemort watched with mild interest.
"Oh?"
"You actually have an interesting dragon."
"It can freely change its body size."
"Such a pity."
"If it were still alive, I might have studied it."
Then his expression darkened.
"But surely you didn't think my attack had ended?"
As his voice fell—
The chains binding Lucius suddenly exploded.
Death energy surged outward, surrounding him.
Lucius was about to be consud by it.
But at the next mont—
A white translucent barrier erupted from his body, blocking the death energy entirely.
This was the protective rune Arthur had once engraved for Lucius:
"Faith's Protection."
Its effect:
Block one fatal attack
Cooldown: two days
Lucius felt imnse relief.
He silently thanked Arthur for that precaution.
anwhile Draco had already snapped out of his shock over Hydra's death.
From his pocket he pulled out two gray spheres and smashed them against the ground.
Gray mist instantly spread around him and Lucius.
This was Arthur's teleportation mist.
It led directly to Arthur's house.
Draco had obtained it after once complaining that Malfoy Manor was too far away from Arthur's ho.
Arthur had casually given him a handful of the spheres.
They were cheap to produce—
Like Floo Powder.
Draco had originally planned to visit Arthur later that afternoon.
So he had carried two teleportation spheres with him.
He had never expected them to beco lifesaving tools.
Seeing the familiar gray mist, Voldemort imdiately recalled what had happened during the Triwizard Tournant.
He knew the mist would teleport the Malfoys away.
But he didn't stop them.
Instead—
Before the teleportation completed—
He flicked his hand.
Two strands of death energy shot forward.
One struck Lucius.
The other struck Draco.
Before either could react—
The gray mist swallowed them.
They vanished.
When the mist dispersed—
Even Hydra's corpse had disappeared.
Bellatrix approached Voldemort respectfully.
"My Lord… shall we pursue them?"
"No need," Voldemort replied calmly.
"You don't even know where they went."
"Besides… our goal today has already been achieved."
Bellatrix thought for a mont.
She agreed.
Lucius and Draco had been struck by Voldemort's death energy.
Even if they escaped—
They likely wouldn't live much longer.
There was no reason to chase two dying n.
But Bellatrix had misunderstood.
Voldemort's real objective had never been to kill the Malfoys.
Yes, he wanted revenge on Lucius.
But his primary purpose today had been to test Arthur.
In Voldemort's mory, the Malfoys had a close relationship with Arthur.
If they were in danger—
They would certainly ask him for help.
That was why Voldemort had attacked Malfoy Manor.
The Malfoys' escape was exactly what he wanted.
The death energy he had planted in them would not kill them quickly.
Instead—
It would slowly erode their life force like a lingering curse.
At the sa ti—
It functioned as a locator.
Once Lucius and Draco sought Arthur's help—
Voldemort could follow the death energy and discover Arthur's ho.
Because until now—
He had no idea where Arthur lived.
Arthur had protected the area around his house with powerful magic.
He had even used curse power on the address itself.
Anyone who knew the location could not speak it aloud without his permission.
Arthur hadn't attached any punishnt to the curse—
Otherwise no one would dare be his friend.
But because of this—
Voldemort had to use such a roundabout thod to locate the house.
The death energy planted in the Malfoys also served as another test.
He wanted to see whether Arthur himself possessed death power.
If Arthur did—
Then Voldemort would need to act far more cautiously in the battles to co.
