After the heavy rain, the sky remained gloomy.

By noon, the sun was still nowhere to be seen.

The thick clouds occasionally tore open a crack, letting a few strands of pale, weak sunlight escape, only to quickly close up again.

An abandoned slaughterhouse on the outskirts of Guilan District was now surrounded layer upon layer by red and white police tape, isolating it.

Outside the police line, many local villagers who had heard the news gathered to watch.

They stepped onto the muddy ground, whispering to each other, occasionally poking their heads curiously inside, trying to catch a glimpse of what was going on.

Several police cars flashing their lights were parked by the roadside, firmly keeping these curious onlookers outside.

The air was full of the damp sll of muddy soil, along with a faint hint of blood.

Zoom—

A black SUV splashed through the mud and water on the road, coming to a steady stop in front of the police tape.

The car door opened, and three figures erged in succession.

Leading them was Gao Jin, followed by two young officials, Zhou Liang and Ali.

Both of them wore dark circles under their eyes and yawned.

Seeing the muddy ground where there was almost no place to stand, they couldn’t help but show a hint of disdain on their faces.

Gao Jin, in contrast, appeared full of spirit, his gaze sharp.

He ignored the filth underfoot, directly lifted the police tape, and strode forward.

A middle-aged officer in charge at the scene saw this and quickly stepped forward with a respectful attitude.

"You must be Chief Gao?"

"I’m Liu Yuan, head of the criminal investigation team at Guilan Substation."

Gao Jin nodded slightly, and after introducing themselves, he got straight to the point:

"What’s the situation at the scene?"

Officer Liu, evidently well-prepared, imdiately began reporting to him:

"Preliminary judgnt is that the incident occurred between midnight and two in the early hours of last night."

"The informant was a villager living nearby who claid to have been awakened by continuous barking and several gunshot-like loud noises last night."

"Due to the heavy rain at night, he didn’t dare go out to check, only vaguely seeing from the window a figure in a raincoat moving near the slaughterhouse, but couldn’t make out its appearance."

"It wasn’t until the rain stopped this morning, when he went out to look around, that he discovered sothing had happened here."

Gao Jin’s gaze swept over the dilapidated exterior walls of the slaughterhouse, then asked:

"Has the victim’s identity been confird?"

"Yes, confird."

Liu Yuan answered thodically:

"The deceased’s na is Chen Rui, male, thirty-two years old, the contractor of this slaughterhouse, and hails from another region. He usually lived here."

"Based on interviews and investigations, he was generally a nice person without many enemies, just a bit odd, as he raised dozens of large dogs and reportedly planned to open a dog breeding facility later this year."

As they spoke, they approached the entrance of the slaughterhouse.

A young officer imdiately handed over several pairs of blue shoe covers.

Gao Jin and his two subordinates skillfully slipped them over their shoes, preventing the mud outside from being tracked into the site.

Pushing open the rusted iron door, a pungent, overwhelming stench of blood assaulted them, instantly eclipsing the site’s inherent decay.

Zhou Liang and Ali almost simultaneously frowned.

The scene before them left these two officials, who had witnessed many events, feeling a strong sense of discomfort.

The hundreds of square ters inside the slaughterhouse were nothing less than chaos.

The air was filled with the unique sll of blood mingled with viscera.

The floor, walls, and ceiling were covered in dark red blood spatter.

Collapsed iron fras, twisted at hooks, scattered slaughter tools mixed with broken bones and rotten flesh almost entirely filled the space.

There were a few corpses that could barely be recognized as large dogs, appearing utterly fragnted.

It was as if they were struck by so terrifying force, bursting apart, with viscera and at flung haphazardly everywhere.

So pieces were even stuck directly to the walls over ten ters away.

In the center of the scene hung a huge iron hook from the ceiling.

Suspended from it was none other than Chen Rui, the deceased.

Except, it could no longer be called a complete corpse.

Several officers in investigative attire were busy throughout the scene, carefully collecting every possible piece of evidence, or holding caras for photos, sampling, and recording.

Zhou Liang, face pale, covered his mouth and asked softly:

"Officer Liu, these... these fragnts aren’t human, right?"

"The forensic pathologist has already confird that they’re all canine."

Liu Yuan replied with a low, solemn tone:

"Although the victim suffered brutal torture before death, the body remains relatively intact."

Zhou Liang and Ali simultaneously breathed a sigh of relief.

The killer hadn’t turned to slaughtering humans into minced at, thankfully leaving so line uncrossed.

However, seeing the canine remains scattered everywhere, if a dog lover were present, they would likely break down on the spot.

Gao Jin’s expression remained calm as ever.

His pupils slightly shimred like the most sophisticated scanner, coolly sweeping over every corner of the scene.

In his mind, these chaotic traces were swiftly being reverse-engineered into dynamic combat scenes.

He saw the heavy iron fra, the trajectory of being toppled by an unstoppable force.

Identified the direction and angle of blood spatter patterns on the walls.

Then, his gaze settled on the heavy stainless steel slaughter table.

On the table surface was a fist imprint recessed two centiters deep.

The edge of the tal surface twisted and ripped from the imnse impact, almost entirely punched through.

For a mont, Gao Jin seed to witness the thrilling scene firsthand—
