Starting with a Military Arms System I Rise to Dominate Another World Chapter 72 : Chapter 72
Chapter 72: The Magic Tower, the Magic Barrier, and the Magic Refraction Cloak
Ryan swept his gaze over the surroundings.
He found no guards nearby.
So he gave Nika and Nila a signal.
The three of them headed straight for the magic tower.
Suddenly, Nika extended her right hand and leaned forward.
It was a signal to stop.
Then she pointed ahead and raised two fingers.
It ant: there are two enemies up ahead.
They were probably guards patrolling the castle at night.
Nika tilted her head slightly and looked at Ryan with a questioning expression.
Ryan shook his head and led the two won into the grass to hide.
They were outside now.
Any unnecessary fighting was best avoided.
They had co to the castle to rescue soone, not to seize the castle.
Once a gunshot rang out, every guard in the castle would converge on this place.
The three of them held their breath.
Very soon, the two patrolling guards arrived near where they were hiding.
“Seriously, we still have to patrol this late at night.”
“Stop complaining. If soone hears you and reports it, neither of us is going to have a good ti.”
“Sigh, this is just our lot in life. We’re out here patrolling in the middle of the night while those noble lords are fooling around with beautiful won.”
“You should count yourself lucky. At least the pay here is generous enough for you to find a woman when you’re off duty.”
“Heh, that’s true.”
“All right, stop thinking about it and focus on the patrol. Next ti we get leave, want to go have a drink together? I found a good place. The beauties there are really sothing.”
“No problem, brother. Hahahaha...”
Chatting as they walked, the two guards passed by the hiding place of Ryan and the others, and their figures gradually disappeared into the distance.
Ryan and the other two waited a little longer.
Only after Nika confird that there was no one else nearby did the three of them co out of hiding and continue toward the magic tower.
Not long afterward, the magic tower ca into view.
When they were still so distance away, Ryan signaled for the two won to stop.
There would be a magic barrier outside the magic tower to serve as an alarm.
The mont anyone intruded, the barrier would sound a warning.
And in the very next second, the Mages inside the tower would rush out and tear the intruder apart.
Fortunately, thanks to the intelligence provided by Sophia, they already knew what kind of magic barrier it was.
Ryan had already brought an item that would let them slip inside: the Magic Refraction Cloak.
The Magic Refraction Cloak was made of three layers. The outer layer was a semi-transparent silver-white fabric woven from Moonlight Butterfly wing powder mixed with silk, and the powder particles could reflect mana waves. The middle layer was a crystal mbrane as thin as a cicada’s wing, processed through a special thod to give it directional refraction. The inner layer was black linen, used to block the faint mana naturally emitted by the human body.
A ring of silver thread was stitched around the edges, with hair-thin tungsten wire wrapped inside it to hold the structure in place.
Once the cloak was spread open, it could form a refraction field with a diater of two ters. When the mana detection waves, ntal scans, or other probing thods of the magic barrier touched the cloak’s surface, the outer layer’s wing powder would guide them into the middle crystal mbrane. The microscopic prism structure within the mbrane would then refract the detection waves at preset angles in other directions, causing the monitoring core of the barrier to receive feedback indicating “no abnormal energy body.”
The range of refraction covered the user’s entire body, including carried items, effectively deceiving the barrier’s mana detection, visual recognition, and other scanning chanisms. Its duration was related to the degree of wear on the fabric, but under normal use, it could last for eight hours.
Ryan took out the Magic Refraction Cloak he had prepared in advance. After opening it up and covering the three of them, he was just about to enter the barrier.
Nika suddenly turned her head.
Then she looked at Ryan, raised two fingers, and pointed behind them.
Ryan understood. Two guards were coming this way.
The three of them instantly passed through the magic barrier and froze in place.
It was already dark, and the light was poor. Unless soone looked very carefully, there was no way they would be discovered.
In the next mont, the voices of the guards reached them.
“Huh? You really saw a figure?”
“Yeah, I did. I definitely saw a shadow moving.”
“Co on, this is the magic tower. It’s full of important Mages. Who in their right mind would try to steal sothing from here?”
“How should I know?”
The voices of the two guards drifted over.
Ryan and the other two felt their hearts rise into their throats.
“Who’s there?!”
“Who’s over there?”
“Co out right now, I’ve found you!!!”
Nika’s heart clenched violently.
Ryan patted Nika, signaling for her to stay calm.
After waiting for a mont, Ryan heard one of the guards say,
“See? There really isn’t anyone.”
“Did I really see it wrong?”
“You definitely did. Relax. No fool would co steal from the magic tower. Don’t forget, there’s a magic barrier here too.”
“All right...”
The voices of the two guards gradually faded into the distance.
Ryan and the others let out a breath of relief.
Only then did Nika realize it.
She had been a little too careless just now.
She had nearly fallen for it.
She had not expected that the guard would actually bluff like that.
Fortunately, Ryan had stopped her. Otherwise, the three of them definitely would have been exposed.
Since Ryan and the others were already inside the barrier, they put away the Magic Refraction Cloak.
Then the three of them quickly headed straight for the entrance of the magic tower.
From a distance, Ryan saw two Mages standing at the entrance.
They wore magic robes and held staffs in their hands.
Ryan exchanged glances with Nika and Nila.
Nika and Nila nodded firmly.
Two guards. One for each of them.
In the next instant,
Nika and Nila shot forward like arrows loosed from the bow, and the firearms in their hands imdiately spat dazzling flashes of fire.
Pew! Pew!
Two muffled shots sliced through the air. With the suppressors in place, the sound was compressed into sothing like distant thunder, dull rather than piercing.
Almost at the exact instant the gunshots faded, the two won had already lunged up to the two guard Mages like phantoms, moving so quickly that only a blur remained in the human eye.
Although they had been caught off guard and were badly startled, the two Mages still instinctively cast magic shields in front of themselves.
But they had underestimated the power of firearms.
Even an A-rank Mage like Alfred had been unable to withstand bullets.
These two guards were even less capable.
Ryan estimated that these two Mages were probably only around C-rank.
Otherwise, they would not have been assigned to guard duty.
From farther back, Ryan also took aim at the two Mages’ feet.
Pew! Pew!
After the two shots rang out,
blood spurted from the feet of the two Mages.
The intense pain in their feet made it impossible for them to remain standing.
With cries of pain, they collapsed to the ground.
“Damn it, who exactly are you? Do you know this is—”
Bang!
Nika stepped up and knocked the speaking Mage to the ground with a single punch.
Then, without showing the slightest rcy, she imdiately started beating him while he was down.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
After several punches, the Mage finally behaved himself.
“Ugh... ugh...”
That Mage had never imagined that his opponents would be this fierce.
They had defeated him in a single exchange.
When the other Mage saw what had happened to his companion, he shuddered at once and did not dare make a sound.
His body was his own, and he had no desire to be beaten.
Ryan told Nika to keep watch over the sniveling Mage and walked over to the other, smarter one.
“Now, I ask, and you answer!”
“Yes, yes, yes! I’ll cooperate, I definitely will! Ask whatever you want. As long as I know it, I’ll tell you.”
Slap!
Ryan directly slapped him across the face.
“Cut the crap.”
“Uh...”
The Mage looked at the fierce expression on Ryan’s face, and his eyes shrank.
“I’m asking you, is Lady Greta inside the magic tower?”
“Yes, she is.”
“Exactly where is she? How many Mages are in the tower altogether? And who is the strongest among them?”
“Uh...”
The Mage hesitated a little.
“Hm?”
Ryan let out a cold snort.
“I’ll talk, I’ll talk, I’ll tell you everything.”
Afraid of being beaten, the Mage hurriedly said, “Greta is being held under house arrest on the top floor of the magic tower. There are twenty-three Mages in the tower in total: ten D-rank Mages, twelve C-rank Mages, and one B-rank Mage.”
“Good. A wise man submits to circumstances. As a reward for your information, I’ll send you to sleep.”
Bang!
Ryan swung his fist again and sent the Mage straight into dreamland.
Over on the other side, Nika followed his example and sent that Mage into dreamland as well.
As for their injuries?
Not a big problem.
This was a world where magic existed.
All it would take was one Healing Magic spell.
These two Mages would recover.
Of course, that was assuming they did not bleed out first.
If they lost too much blood, even Healing Magic would not be enough.
“What was that sound?”
“What happened? I think I heard soone scream.”
“What scream? Were those two doorn slacking off again?!”
“...”
At the sa ti, soone inside the magic tower heard the noise from the entrance.
Ryan found the key to the magic tower on one of the Mages and opened the tower’s main door.
“Nila, according to plan, go to the top floor and rescue Lady Greta. Nika and I will draw their fire for you.”
Ryan gave the order.
That had been the plan decided before they ca.
Ryan and Nika would draw the guards’ attention.
Taking advantage of that, Nila would rescue Lady Greta.
“Yes, Master.”
Nila nodded, then headed for the upper floors of the magic tower.
Ryan turned and shut the door of the magic tower, making sure the sounds here would not carry outside.
What ca next was diversion.
Or, to put it another way, shutting the door and beating the dogs!
At that mont, several Mages ca running out from the hall on the other side of the staircase.
“Who are you?”
“Intruders?”
“You’ve got so nerve, breaking into the Jurgen Family’s magic tower.”
“Damn intruders, today you won’t be leaving here alive!”
“Attack!”
“...”
Ryan and Nika had to hold the stairway and wait for Nila to co back down.
Facing twenty-three Mages, Ryan felt eager to test himself.
This was the first ti since coming to this world that he had faced so many Mages at once.
Nika stood tightly behind Ryan.
Faced with so many enemies, she felt not the slightest fear. Her heart was filled only with trust in Ryan.
Ryan turned his head and shouted to Nika, “Spread out.”
Nika instantly understood. She split off from Ryan to one side, raised the gun in her hand, and aid at the distant Mages.
The battle was on the verge of erupting.
