Emily followed Callan. "I said I’m sorry," she said again.
When he still didn’t respond, she sighed. "You said we should fix it before leaving," she reminded him.
He stopped walking and faced her. "We fixed it," he said. "I said what I had to say. Now I don’t have anything else to say to you."
She looked at him. "I just... I felt... I don’t know, I just felt so kind of way when I saw you both standing there together and she was laughing like you were saying sothing funny."
"And in your head you decided that Callan the playboy was on the move again."
She winced but didn’t deny it.
He exhaled. "I respect you, Emily Williams," he said. "And I respect why we have and what we are trying to build. I won’t ss it up. You have my word."
"I’m sorry," she said again, reminding herself of what Stefan had told her the last ti. "I’ll do better."
"And you could have just told her we’re together instead of acting cool," he pointed out.
She nodded slowly. "I guess this is why we need that counseling you talked about," she said. "You know what? Let’s not resolve this right now."
His brows pulled together. "What?"
Her eyes twinkled with mischief, "Let’s take this to your therapist now and get your money’s worth of counseling."
Callan laughed.
He couldn’t help it.
She grinned, relieved that he was laughing now. "I’m sorry. I didn’t an to insult you. It’s just that you’re too handso and wealthy for your own good, and now everyone wants you," she added.
He shook his head. "You’re beautiful and wealthy too and people want you too."
She waved it off. "This isn’t about ."
He smiled. "Let’s go."
They got into the car and he started the engine after making sure she was comfortably seated.
"How was surgery?" he asked. "And how are you?"
She folded her arms. "I’m not okay."
He glanced at her. "Why not? What’s wrong?"
"You said you had nothing to say to ," she said.
He laughed. "But I’ve said plenty since then."
She pouted. "You didn’t say you missed or you love ."
He smiled. "I missed you, Princess," he said. "And I love you, Ice Queen."
Her expression softened. "I love you too, fire king."
"By the way, I ca early because I had news," he added.
Her eyes lit up. "What news?"
He shrugged slightly. "You got upset. Now I don’t feel like saying it again."
She laughed and hit his arm lightly. "Tell !"
He leaned closer, puckering his lips. "Make ."
She rolled her eyes then leaned in and kissed him.
He kissed her back.
For a mont, it got deeper, then they pulled apart.
"Now tell ," she said.
He smiled. "Cindy ca to my office."
Her eyes widened. "What happened?" She asked, wondering why he was smiling about that.
He told her.
She listened quietly then she sighed in relief when he finished.
"Thank goodness." She touched his cheek. "You handled it well. I’m proud of you."
He grinned, feeling like a little boy. "That’s not the best part."
She raised a brow slightly. "What?"
He looked at her. "Genevieve is alive."
She paused, then her jaw dropped. "What?"
"It’s true," he said. "I spoke to Stefan."
Her eyes widened slowly, then she laughed in disbelief. "Really? Why didn’t he reply my text then?"
She took out her phone quickly then saw she had unread ssage from Stefan.
It seed to have entered while she was in the theater.
Stefan >: Thank you for your concern, Emily. I’m sorry for not responding earlier. You’ll get the details from Cal.
She read it, then smiled. "This is... wonderful news," she whispered.
Callan grinned. "It really is. And he says they’re getting married soon."
Emily laughed this ti. "Wow," she said, shaking her head.
"Can you believe he’s marrying Genevieve when they only just t?" He asked as drove out of the hospital premises.
"I’m not surprised."
"Why not?"
She smiled. "It’s Stefan. He has always been decisive. When he wants sothing, he goes for it without thinking twice."
Callan nodded. "That’s true."
She leaned back in her seat and sighed softly. "I’m so happy she’s alive."
"Yeah. My mom too," he said softly.
For a mont, they were quiet. And the car moved slowly on the road.
Callan glanced at her and when he noticed that her eyes looked a little wet, he reached for her hand and held it.
After a while Emily spoke again.
"Do you think Dawn knows?" she asked.
Callan nodded. "She should. Jamal is there after all."
Emily smiled a little. "She must be so happy," she said.
"Yeah."
She was silent for a while then he turned to see her staring at him. "What?"
"About earlier, I know I was wrong, but can we not do that at my workplace next ti?"
"Next ti? Do you plan for this to happen next ti?" He asked, making her laugh.
"Of course not. I’m just saying let’s handle anything in private. Not even in the middle of your office lobby. We can do that when we are alone and don’t have any audience," she said, and he nodded.
"Okay. I’m sorry. I got really upset and wasn’t thinking beyond that," he said apologetically.
A small yawn left her lips. "It’s okay."
"You’re tired," he said.
She nodded. "Very."
He nodded too. "Let’s go get you food," he said. "I’m sure you haven’t eaten yet."
"Do we have to go for therapy?" She groaned softly.
He smiled. "No. While you went to get changed, I called to cancel. You looked to exhausted for that."
Her heart softened imdiately at his thoughtfulness, "You did?"
"Of course," he said.
"Aww." Then she smiled again. "You just might make a really good husband."
He chuckled. "I hope so. But only for you."
She smiled at that. "So, how did you get her to leave?"
He glanced at her. "Who? Your colleague?"
"Yeah."
Callan smirked. "I think it’d be best you hear from her directly."
"Cal, what did you say?" Emily asked, laughing when she saw the smirk.
"Ask her."
Emily shook her head. "Fine. Anyway, Dan invited to his birthday party."
His brows pulled together imdiately. "No. You’re not going."
Even though she’d planned not to attend, Emily frowned imdiately. "I wasn’t asking for your permission."
"You don’t have to ask. I’m your boyfriend and your guardian here. And so I’m saying no. You’re not going to attend that party," he said in a tone that ant that was final.
"You know what? I already told him no. But now that you’re being this way, I’m going to attend that party."
