The council dispersed slowly, chairs scraping against stone as elders left in pairs or alone. No one spoke loudly. The Prism results and the demonstration of the Battle Array had shaken them more than they showed.

For years, they had relied on instinct, favoritism, and guesswork. Now numbers, affinities, and limits stood in front of them like a mirror. So elders avoided each other's eyes. Others looked thoughtful.

Robert remained behind for a mont, watching the emptying hall. The clan was changing. Whether it would grow stronger or crack under pressure depended on what they did next.

Formations could teach discipline. Array could polish skills. But neither could replace real danger. That evening, he knocked on the study door again.

"Enter," John Osborn said.

His father was bent over a table filled with scrolls and wooden slips, reviewing training rotations, resource logs, and supply routes. The work of a clan head never paused.

"I want to take a small group to the Forbidden Forest," Robert said plainly.

The brush in John's hand stopped.

"For hunting?" John asked without looking up.

"For training. Real combat experience."

John finally lifted his gaze.

"The forest is not a practice yard," he said. "Beasts do not stop when soone is injured. They do not care about talent or potential."

"I know," Robert replied. "Outer zone only. One week. Five people. No deep exploration."

John leaned back slowly, studying his son's face. "You have thought this through."

"Yes."

Silence stretched. "Who?" John asked.

"My cousins. Ronan, Sai, Sarah, Taylen. And Eissa."

John's eyes narrowed slightly at Eissa's na, but he did not object.

"Do not go too far inside," he said at last. "That forest hides things even the great clans avoid. If sothing feels wrong, you retreat imdiately. Pride kills more cultivators than blades."

Robert nodded.

"I will."

"I will handle clan affairs," John added. "Your only job is to bring them back alive."

They left before sunrise. Mist clung to the ground as they passed beyond Magical City's outer farms. The world felt normal there—birds calling, farrs moving, smoke rising from cook fires.

That changed once the tree line of the Forbidden Forest appeared. The air felt heavier near it. Cooler. Sound seed to dull as if swallowed by leaves.

No one spoke when they crossed into the outer zone. Robert walked to the front. Eissa stayed near him, her eyes constantly scanning. Sai took the rear. Ronan and Sarah guarded the sides. Taylen carried extra supplies and tried not to look bored.

"Stay within sight," Robert said quietly. "No wandering."

The forest floor was thick with fallen leaves. Each step had to be placed carefully.

After several minutes, Eissa spoke softly. "The qi here… it does not flow evenly." Robert glanced at her. "Explain." "It gathers in pockets," she said. "Like pools. Then it thins out."

Sai nodded.

"I feel it too. Makes sensing harder." Good observations. That ant they were alert. Taylen eventually broke the silence. "If a beast eats us, i am blaming Robert."

Ronan snorted. "If a beast eats you, it is because you talk too much." Sarah hid a smile. The tension eased, but not fully. Everyone still moved carefully.

Robert raised a fist, and the group halted. He crouched and pointed to the bent grass. "See this? Sothing passed recently." Sai leaned closer.

"Two legs?"

"Four," Robert said. "Weight distributed. Probably grazing." They spent the next few hours practicing quiet movent. Step placent. Reading signs. Qi control.

Twice, Taylen stepped too hard and cracked a twig. Each ti, Eissa shot him a sharp look. No beasts appeared. No dramatic monts. Just slow learning. By midday, sweat clung to their backs. By afternoon, fatigue crept into their legs.

That was when Robert felt it. A subtle pressure change. Like the air thickened for a heartbeat. He raised a hand. Everyone froze. Forest noise faded. No insects. No birds. Then— A deep roar rolled through the trees. The ground trembled slightly.

Sarah swallowed. "that is close." Too close. Sothing moved in the brush.

Dark fur. Low posture. Heavy shoulders. Yellow eyes reflect dim light. A wolf-type spirit beast, larger than a horse. Muscles rippled beneath its skin.

Stronger than any one of them alone. Robert's pulse quickened, but his voice remained steady.

"Formation." They shifted without argunt.

Then the system voice sounded in his mind.

SYSTEM TASK

Robert inhaled slowly.

"Eissa, read its movents."

"Taylen, front." "Ronan, support."

"Sai, watch angles."

"Sarah, strike when called."

The beast lunged. Taylen t it with the Stone-Breaking Fist. The impact forced him back two steps. "Strong!" He grunted.

Robert used Shadow Step and struck its flank. Twin Dragon Fang left a shallow cut. The beast twisted, snapping. Sarah dashed in and sliced behind its hind leg.

Not deep—but annoying. It spun toward her. Sai yanked her back just in ti.

Their teamwork was not clean. Ronan's spear nearly clipped Taylen once. Sarah mistid a step. Eissa shouted warnings more than once.

But they adjusted. They learned mid-fight. Robert guided without dominating. He let them react, correct, and try again.

After several exchanges, the beast slowed. Blood darkened its fur. Its confidence faded. It growled, then backed away. No one chased. Smart. Heavy breathing filled the clearing.

Taylen laughed weakly. "That was exciting." No one else laughed. They were too busy realizing how close that had been. Then the forest fell silent again.

Eissa frowned. "It left too easily." Sai tightened his grip. "we are not alone."

Robert felt it too. Like pressure before a storm. They had passed the first test.

The forest was not done. "Fall back," he ordered. "We camp near the edge."

No one argued.

As they withdrew, the forest seed darker than before. Shadows stretched strangely between trees. Twice, Robert thought he saw movent where there was none.

Or maybe sothing was watching. They reached a safer zone near dusk and set a quiet camp. No fire—just rations and water.

No one talked much. Each replayed the fight in their head. Mistakes. Delays. Fear. Robert looked toward the deeper forest. Tomorrow would be harder. The system had promised that. And the forest rarely broke its word.
