Chapter 978: It’s Wrong Only For the Weak

Gu Ruolan took a deep breath and, wearing a solemn look on her face, asked, “Chen’er, can your legacy allow you reach Bone Refinement in the next half a year?”
Hearing this, Max could tell she wasn’t going to ask about his ‘Cultivation Art’. So he decided to take the matter into his own hands.
“Yes, Second Mother. I’m certain of that.” He confidently said.
Gu Ruloan’s face lit up and the deep seated exhaustion and worries in her eyes seemed to have vanished.
“Good, very good. Our Gu family can be saved.” She choked up, overe with emotions.
After she slowly calmed down, she saw Max looking at her, appearing awkward and hesitant.
Her excitement ebbed away as she immediately thought there was some difficulty to his claim. Unconsciously tightening her grip on his arm, she asked, “What is it, Chen’er?”
“Second Mother, you can be rest assured that I can indeed reach the Bone Refinement within half a year, to do that I have to…”
An embarrassed look appeared on his face and he stopped speaking which made Gu Ruolan anxiously ask, “What do you have to do? Is it something very difficult given our family’s current situation?”
Cultivation required resources and as one rose through realms, the demand for them would only increase.
And because cultivation resources, may it be some pill, a spirit fruit, spirit beast meat or anything else, were always in a high demand and low in supply. This made them rare and very expensive.
This was the reason why ordinary people who didn’t earn much could never enter the cultivation path and bee a cultivator.
When Gu Ruolan saw his troubled look, she immediately thought he needed resources, perhaps some of the more expensive ones, to rapidly increase his strength. She felt her guess was right because what else could make him hesitate but his family’s current financial condition?

“No, Second Mother. I’m not worried about resources because I don’t need many of them to bee stronger.” Max interrupted her with a shake of his head.
“Then?” Gu Ruolan looked at him in confusion.

“Perverted?” Gu Ruolan muttered.

Gu Ruolan’s eyes widened in surprise, then her cheeks flushed, “It’s indeed very perverted.”
“Mm.” Max nodded in agreement, also looking bashful.
There was silence in the shop for a while, then Gu Ruolan’s eyes gleamed and she said, “Wasn’t there a girl in the Nie family who you liked? How about we marry her to you?”
Gu Chen’s memories stirred in his mind and Max understood who she was talking about. She was indeed Gu Chen’s childhood crush and fitted the requirements well, however…

“Yes, I did.” Max nodded, lamenting the fact that he didn’t get rid of the smell on him before ing here.
“How could you… she is your sister.” Gu Ruolan threw his hand away and jumped to her feet, staring at him as if he was a monster.
Max’s expression hardened as he also stood up and said, “You are right, she is my sister, but to save our family, both she and I are willing to sacrifice anything.”
After a pause, he added, “Also don’t forget Second Mother that it’s only ordinary mortals and we weaker cultivators think that marrying or loving our blood relative is some sort of taboo that once mitted would invite a heavenly tribulation.
Those stronger cultivation families don’t think the same. Don’t you know our City Lord who everyone respects and looks up to has recently married his niece? Max spoke with such eloquence and such weight in his voice that Gu Ruolan, who was a traditional woman, found herself thinking that his words… made sense.
Seeing the thoughtful, though conflicting, expression on her face, Max took a deep breath while feeling relieved. At the same time, he began to slowly suppress his fully unleashed charm.
He wasn’t confident just the will to save the family and the facts he gave her would be enough to change her mind, so he had unleashed it without holding back.
He took the seat and began waiting for her response.

His head uncontrollably twisted sideways from the impact while a burning pain assaulted the nerves on his cheek.

Max stared at her blankly, pletely dumbfounded.
