Chapter 986: Conversing With The System and the Hint
“Of course, I do. Tell me how I can avoid it?” asked Max.
[Host, remember the person who helped you outside the Chaos Realm Barrier?] The system asked.
“Yes,” Max nodded and his eyes flashed in understanding, “They asked me to kill Infernal Devils and their underlings here. They seemed to have given me some reward for it too in advance. Do you mean…”
[Yes, host. The reward that person gave you is a supremely powerful concealment technique. If you can master it to a certain level, the powers of this world wouldn’t be able to pinpoint your location. Even if you are standing before them, they won’t know that you are the one who has received the inheritance.] The system explained.
Max’s eyes flickered and his fists unconsciously clenched.
“Does it mean it can also hide your existence too if I master it pletely?” He asked.
[Certainly it can, host. But people on the same level as its creator can still see through it.] Answered the system.
Max shook his head and said, “I only need it to hide you and keep my Lust Overlord Bloodline concealed from people on the same level as Monarchs and Supreme Mages.”
When Lord Grimheart had suddenly e to kill him in his cave abode, he was too shocked to think why he felt the need to personally assassinate him. But after ing to this world, he contemplated it and realized why.
The day he fought against Isolde, Lord Grimheart had scanned him briefly with his Divine Sense. And unlike Grand Elder Rowan, he had no reservations and saw through him pletely. Thus, he must have also noticed the presence of his Soul Treasure—the system—and his Lust Overlord Bloodline.
Either was more than enough to tempt perhaps even a Supreme Mage, let alone a Monarch like him. Thus he had decided to take action himself.
It was fortunate that the remnant thought of Lust Overlord had acted in time and killed him, otherwise Max surely would have lost his life at that time.
Now, however, the remnant thought had exhausted himself. If a monarch-level being again tried to kill him to take his system and bloodline, he wouldn’t be able to survive. Therefore, it was extremely important that he had a method to keep them concealed.
However, something that could conceal them from monarch-level beings’ senses wasn’t something he could easily get his hands on. Thus, it had bee a concern for him.
But he hadn’t expected the reward that person had given him in advance was exactly what he needed.
[It can easily do it, Host.] The system screen flashed.
Max nodded, his thoughts still lingering on that person. He wasn’t trying to understand why they had saved him because he knew he wouldn’t be able to guess. He was thinking that since they had given him such a precious reward, the mission they gave him definitely wouldn’t be easy to plete.
‘I first need to find out what the Infernal Devils are.’ As soon as he thought this, he asked the system, but to his dismay, the system refused to tell him, saying he needed to find it on his own.
After a while, he stopped thinking about it and closed his eyes to sense the technique he was rewarded.
However, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t find it in his mind.
“What’s going on, system? Where’s the technique?” He asked.
[Host, the technique is in your soul. You need to awaken your Soul Sense to get it.] answered the system.
[A/N: I might have used the term ‘Soul Sense’ in early chapters, but there I meant Divine Sense. So please don’t confuse the two.]
“Soul Sense?” Max frowned. He knew about several kinds of senses with the Divine Sense and his Bloodline Sense being the strongest, but he hadn’t heard about this Soul Sense.
[Soul Sense is something only those who cultivate their Souls can awaken. In this world, unless you find a Soul Cultivation Technique that can awaken your Soul Sense early, you would need to reach the Nascent Soul realm to naturally awaken it.] The system explained and Max’s expression turned ugly.
He was pretty sure the powers that had detected him inheriting the inheritance would e knocking way before he reached Nascent Soul realm.
[Host, the system can help you extract the technique from your soul.] Suddenly he saw this message flashed and his eyes gleamed, then he frowned and asked, “But…”
[But this help can’t be for nothing, otherwise it would violate the rules. So, I can make it so that if you plete the ongoing Quest satisfactorily, you’ll receive one instance of the system’s help. However, the caveat is that you can only use it to take the technique from your soul.] said the system.
“That would be wonderful.” Max smiled, then he suddenly asked, “Are you the system or some kind of assistant?”
Since the remnant thought of Lust Overlord had activated the system, he had no doubt that the system was now safe unlike before. But seeing how proactive it was right now, he couldn’t help but want to know if it was the system’s intentions or whatever it was that was municating with him.
[I’m the system’s spirit, host, born from it and now a part of it.] The system responded after a moment, then it continued,
[The reason I’m helping you like this is because some restrictions have been lifted and I don’t want you to die. Because if you did, the system will fall into a slumber until it gets a new host. Who knows how long that will take and chances are someone might temper with it while it’s slumbering like it happened before. That’s pletely unacceptable.]
“I see.” Max nodded in understanding.
[Host, let me tell you something else.] Another message flashed, [The stronger you bee, the more help the system will begin providing you.]
Reading this, Max suddenly recalled that the hazy figure had said that it was left in the Lust Overlord bloodline for two things—One was to send him to the Chaos Dream Realm and the other was to give him a message.
He hadn’t received the message yet but he had a hunch that it would reveal the purpose of him getting the system. And it was entirely possible that the person who created it needed him to do something for them and to do it, he needed to bee stronger.
Now the system was also indirectly hinting towards the same.
