Hong ihua conducted the questioning very ticulously, not missing any details, verifying repeatedly, and it took more than an hour before letting everyone leave. Her expression beca serious, and she said in a low voice to Luo Zheng and Lan Xue, "Based on the questioning, it aligns with what the Major said. We can confirm three things: first, the other party went north; second, they spoke fluent international common languages; third, their racial composition is complex, including black, white, and yellow races."
"Knock, knock, knock!" Soone knocked on the door.
Luo Zheng opened the door. It was the Major, who looked very displeased and said awkwardly, "We've already scoured the surroundings and haven't found any signs of a fight or any bodies. Mr. Pan Chen's assistant, Cheng He, is indeed missing."
"You ntioned earlier the possibility of either chasing after the enemy or being kidnapped. Why do you think that?" Luo Zheng asked.
"I know Cheng He. He's a young and easy-going person, in his thirties, very friendly, and everyone likes him. Additionally, Cheng He is a forr Special Forces mber, serving as Mr. Pan Chen's assistant primarily to protect him. As a Special Forces mber, he would naturally pursue strong adversaries, so I..." the Major quickly explained, with an extrely awkward expression.
"I need his file," Hong ihua's expression hardened as she said.
"Yes." The Major imdiately agreed and hurriedly ran off.
"My instincts tell this Cheng He has issues. What do you think?" Hong ihua said thoughtfully.
"Indeed, there are issues, but further investigation is needed," Luo Zheng responded.
"Agreed." Hong ihua pulled out a phone, dialed a number, and said when it connected, "It's . I need you to imdiately investigate a person nad Cheng He to check if he has any records of leaving the country."
After hanging up the phone, Hong ihua continued with a severe expression, "If this person has issues, then what are his motives? Could Cheng He and the ard attackers at the base be the sa group?"
After a brief discussion among the three, the Major hurried over and handed a file to Hong ihua. She carefully went through it before passing it to Lan Xue, and while she pondered, Lan Xue finished and gave it to Luo Zheng. None of the three voiced an opinion imdiately; they were deep in thought.
The Major waited awkwardly, wanting to inquire but also afraid of disrupting the trio's thoughts, so he endured, waiting patiently. After a few minutes, Hong ihua suddenly asked, "How has Cheng He's recent state been?"
"This?" The Major understood that the trio suspected Cheng He and, thinking of Cheng He's usual amicability and good rapport, answered awkwardly, "I can't see anything wrong. He gets along well with everyone. If it's him, I really don't understand what his motive would be."
"Take us to his room to have a look," Hong ihua said seriously.
"Please follow ." The Major didn't object and signaled everyone to follow him outside.
Before long, they arrived at a residential area. The Major led them to a room, which was unlocked. As he pushed open the door, he said, "Cheng He's room is usually unlocked. Bachelors like to hang out in his room."
The room wasn't spacious, resembling a single apartnt layout, with a bed, a few chairs, a TV, a single arm strengthener, two dumbbells, a dartboard with three darts stuck on it, and a simple modular wardrobe in the corner with so clothes hanging inside, nothing else to speak of.
"He's single, eats at the cafeteria, and his ho is very simple," the Major explained.
Hong ihua pulled out a pair of white gloves, donned them, observed around, and lifted the bed covers but found nothing on the bed. She checked other areas, still found nothing, and took off the white gloves, placing them back in her pocket, frowning as she pondered, "He's been here for two years, right? Has anyone ever co to visit him?"
"No, I heard he grew up in an orphanage after his parents died in a car accident, then joined the military. No one has co looking for him in these two years, and he hasn't contacted anyone outside, never ntioned anyone, as if isolated from the world. He never goes anywhere, just stays at the base where everyone knows him well. I'm relatively familiar with his situation," the Major quickly said.
"A young guy in his thirties living this way doesn't seem strange to you?" Hong ihua questioned.
"Hiss?" The Major, enlightened by Hong ihua's remark, instantly felt sothing was off. Everyone has friends, social circles; who would stay at a base for two years? Realizing sothing wasn't right, the Major couldn't help but say, "You make a valid point. Now it seems he doesn't care about the future at all."
"Precisely speaking, he doesn't worry about the future, only focuses on the present. Or perhaps, he knows what his future holds, so he doesn't care, makes no friends, doesn't consider marriage, etc., because he knows he will leave here. Only this explanation accounts for how he can peacefully interact with everyone," Hong ihua pointed out.
"The way you put it makes sense. Who doesn't think about marrying when they get older? He doesn't seem to care, neither considering career advancents, just content to be Mr. Pan Chen's assistant. The organization even talked to him once about a promotion, and I was the one representing the organization. His response back then was that he wasn't interested, just wanted a simple life, looking laid-back. I even scolded him a bit for not being ambitious. Looking back now, I might have made a fool of myself," the Major said quickly, looking very embarrassed.
"Alright, keep his situation confidential for now," Hong ihua said casually, casting a glance at Lan Xue and Luo Zheng. Seeing that neither had additional questions, she said, "We have a grasp of the situation; you may leave."
"Okay, contact anyti if needed." The Major eagerly agreed.
Once the Major left, Hong ihua motioned for Luo Zheng to close the door and then spoke in a lowered voice, "Based on the current situation, it's safe to say Cheng He has issues. The files indicate he was in a Special Forces unit of the Northwest Military Region, serving as a scout. During a mission, aside from him being injured, all his team mbers perished due to enemy attacks, but none of their bodies were found. Isn't there sothing odd here?"
"It is quite odd. Even if wild animals gnawed on them, there would be bones left," Luo Zheng said, pondering,
"If Cheng He colluded with outsiders and stole the activation device, what's his intention? Sell it on the international market? It could fetch a good price, for financial gain?" Hong ihua muttered to herself, perhaps finding her analysis unconvincing; she shook her head and smiled bitterly, "It seems only finding Cheng He will reveal everything."
"Any way to find him?" Luo Zheng asked curiously.
"Of course, he must have a purpose for seizing that item, not just to play with it himself, right? As long as he shows up, there will be a way to track him. Leave this matter to ; let's head back," Hong ihua said confidently.
