The last glimr of twilight faded away, and the sky gradually turned dark. The cold wind howled over the mountaintop, causing the forest to rustle. Apart from this, no other sound could be heard. After brief exchanges, everyone went into hiding, listening intently, eyes fixed on Luo Zheng, awaiting orders. Hong ihua and Lan Xue stood to the left and right of Luo Zheng, quietly observing the valley direction, with eyebrows furrowed, pondering sothing.
Luo Zheng took a deep breath, as if he'd made so decision, and pointed toward a mountain hollow on one side, saying, "As long as we fire here, the enemy will definitely climb up from that hollow. With Lan Xing disrupting nearby surveillance, our deploynt won't be exposed, Ghost Hand."
"Present!" Ghost Hand quickly jogged two steps forward, shouting with fervor.
"Take your people to lay mines; use them all and ambush on the left side of the hollow," Luo Zheng advised seriously.
"Yes." Ghost Hand acknowledged understandingly, turning around to shout at his action team, "Brothers, ti to work! Everyone get energized!"
"Yes," Ghost Hand's team mbers responded in unison, quickly standing up, grabbing piled land mines, and headed into the forest, soon disappearing.
"Snow Leopard, take your team to ambush on the right side," Luo Zheng continued shouting.
"Yes," Snow Leopard responded excitedly, waved his hand, and left with his team.
"Mountain Eagle," Luo Zheng continued to shout.
"Present!" Mountain Eagle swiftly charged forward, puffing out his chest enthusiastically.
"Take your people and spread out, each find a place to hide. Targets: warhorses, tents, officers, and that damn mastiff. Use incendiary bombs and create chaos with fire for ," Luo Zheng ordered sternly.
"Yes," Mountain Eagle replied excitedly, waved his hand, leading his n into the forest, disappearing into its depths.
In no ti, the three action teams had all departed. Lan Xue observed the surrounding terrain and said, "We have the high ground; the enemy is defenseless against us. The only opportunity lies in that hollow. As long as we hold the hollow, our ambush duration lengthens, increasing the enemy's panic. This tactic is effective, ensuring at least a secure position. Whether we can capitalize on this depends on luck. What should we do?"
"The Squad Leader acts as the observer, tasked with monitoring enemy movents and promptly alerting of any anomalies. The two of us will see if we can fish for bigger prey," Luo Zheng said with a warlike spirit.
"Makes sense," Lan Xue smiled, suddenly struck by inspiration. She took out a rope, tied it to a large tree, looped the other end around her waist, and walked toward the cliff edge, releasing the rope as she went, leaving Luo Zheng dumbfounded. He inquired about her motive, to which Lan Xue explained: "I've long wanted to explore down there. Isn't there a temple below? Let's see if we can find a blast point, bomb the cliff, and bury the temple below."
"Oh? Great idea," Luo Zheng was overjoyed and exclaid, "This idea is excellent; at the very least, we can check if there's any hidden contrivance in the temple below. Why didn't you say earlier? Squad Leader, give all the button bombs you're carrying."
Hong ihua set down the general's bag, pulled out a pack of button bombs, and handed it to Luo Zheng with a laugh, "We've heard these are quite useful, brought extra this ti, fifty for each person. Go on then, put on a grand show of fireworks for , finally a chance to see them in action."
"That's not much; I usually detonate a hundred at once. The power, terrifying just thinking about it," Luo Zheng chuckled, took the button bombs, tied them on himself, secured one end of the rope to another tree, tied the other to his waist, grabbed two sapper shovels, steadied the rope, and slid down quickly to catch up with Lan Xue.
The cliff was steep, with jagged rocks jutting out, hiding the temple below. From above, the bottom was obscured, and vice versa. The two observed on the protruding rock pile for a while, carefully peeking at both sides, pinpointing the general location of the temple. Luo Zheng pointed to a spot and said, "Let's do it here."
Lan Xue took another sapper shovel, and they started searching for gaps in the rock pile, each on one side, prying out loose stones and dirt to form a pit, continuously expanding the pit's depth. The rocks were stubborn, requiring patience and endurance, and too much exertion was not advisable. The small stones dug out couldn't be thrown carelessly, lest those below notice. The pair slowly excavated, ti slipping quietly away.
After half an hour, other action teams sent ssages via earpieces one after another, all ready, awaiting orders. Luo Zheng halted his work to glance at the valley, where the stationed troops were burning fires and cooking with no suspicion. Even the patrol team was conducting a routine check, lacking seriousness.
"Hold off," Luo Zheng conveyed through earpiece communication, continuing to dig the cliff pit alongside Lan Xue. Another half hour later, they had unwittingly managed five pits about a ter deep each, placing ten button bombs in each, set to detonate in ten minutes. After completing the tasks, Luo Zheng and Lan Xue climbed back up holding the ropes.
"You two are a perfect match," Hong ihua sincerely complented, observing Luo Zheng and Lan Xue.
"Thank you," Luo Zheng replied courteously, glancing at the blushing Lan Xue, untying the rope, and picking up a sniper rifle to find a comfortable position at the ridge. After seeing that Lan Xue had also found a place to hide, Luo Zheng checked his watch and said, "Attention all units, in five minutes, Mountain Eagle Team initiates the attack, everyone else hold position."
"Understood," everyone replied softly.
Hong ihua, having never experienced such a battlefield, was intrigued and exhilarated, her spirit burning fervently, eager to grab a weapon and join the fray. But she knew her capabilities and role, held Luo Zheng's advice firmly, observing the valley below with binoculars at the cliff edge.
As ti ticked away, Luo Zheng clenched his weapon, scrutinizing his strategy to ensure no significant flaws. Seeing the ti had arrived, he imdiately shouted, "Mountain Eagle, execute."
"Swish swish swish!" Mountain Eagle Team responded to Luo Zheng by charging forward. The ten-mber squad, each a formidable sniper, though unable to achieve pinpoint kills due to the considerable distance, had no trouble targeting large warhorses and tents. Bullets whistled sharply, fearso in the night, like the Death God chuckling.
"Neigh!" So warhorses were struck, screaming in agony. The incendiary agent in the sniper bullets was exceedingly frightening, igniting the horses instantly. The warhorses bolted violently, crashing around erratically. So tents were also hit, catching fire bizarrely in the night.
The sudden change startled the valley-based enemies, rushing out of tents. Soldiers busy cooking by the bonfire flopped to the ground, looking around. Realizing it was long-range sniping, they clung to the ground tightly, not daring to move recklessly, completely oblivious to the fact they were still three thousand ters from the ridge, impossibly within effective sniper range.
