"Taking a break isn't a big deal; compared to you all, my stamina really can't keep up. Xue Er is truly impressive, not showing even a hint of fatigue." Hong ihua said apologetically, panting heavily, as she saw everyone quickly loading bullets into empty magazines, she followed suit. Her whole body felt energized, enveloped in a thrilling sensation that was intoxicating; even if she died in battle the next mont, she would have no regrets.
"I'm combat personnel, you're intelligence personnel, we have different roles." Lan Xue said casually, looking at Luo Zheng, her gaze froze as she continued, "The enemy hasn't followed us, the original plan has to change. It seems the enemy isn't foolish and anticipated our valley ambush. It's unfortunate, so what now?"
"No rush, each team report the battle situation." Luo Zheng's face darkened, he spoke softly.
The battle situation was quickly summarized; no casualties on their side, just a few warriors had minor scratches, nothing serious. Simple bandaging wouldn't affect combat. This outco allowed Luo Zheng to secretly breathe a sigh of relief. Next, they discussed enemy casualties, each mber counted their respective kills, and finally summarized.
Luo Zheng hadn't expected that over a hundred enemies were taken down in the valley, and another few dozen were eliminated during the retreat. There were even more wounded, aning that, excluding enemies in the valley, over 200 pursuing forces were killed, with more than 200 injured—a major victory. Although it was an ambush, it was a win nonetheless, and everyone was smiling with excitent.
However, Luo Zheng frowned; this was enemy territory. Not to ntion the six to seven hundred remaining in the valley, who could call on reinforcents at any ti, putting them at a disadvantage. Moreover, reinforcents could be on the way; if they can't complete the mission quickly, things could get problematic.
Lan Xue also considered the possibility of reinforcents, softly reminding, "The enemy didn't seize the chance to pursue, but retreated to defend. This conservative tactic is quite irrational; reinforcents might indeed be on the way."
"That's entirely possible, so we must act quickly. If we drag it out until tomorrow, the enemy reinforcents might arrive. We must swiftly complete the mission and withdraw. Let's go, everyone follow back." Luo Zheng said fiercely, his eyes glowing with confidence, like stars in the sky, gleaming brightly.
Everyone nodded knowingly and followed closely. Mountain Eagle didn't wait for orders, leading his team to pave the way ahead to guard against enemy ambushes. Everyone else quickened their pace, marching swiftly. Along the way, they noticed the enemy had already cleaned up the battlefield, no corpses or weapons were seen—they had been collected.
Luo Zheng originally hoped to procure so weapons and ammunition as supplent; seeing this scene, his expression grew serious, calculating his next strategies. Unbeknownst to them, they reached the original mountain top, having not encountered any enemies along the way. Another look towards the valley, and they each broke into excited smiles.
The fire in the valley was still ablaze, consuming most of the tents. Troops were attempting to extinguish the fire; fortunately, water wasn't far, but the flas were intense, and water seed to have little effect. Luo Zheng raised his binoculars to observe for a while and laughed, pointing forward, "Their tent with food supplies is burning too, who fired the shot? An excellent job."
Earlier in the dark, at such a distance, bullets would fly unpredictably, who could tell who hit the target? Everyone chuckled heartily. Hong ihua excitedly added, "Great shot, without food, let's see what they'll eat now. With so many wounded, what's their next move?"
"The enemy's pursuing forces have over two hundred wounded, and the valley hosts many more. Morale is low, but they're guarding strictly, not daring to venture out; we can't charge in either. This battle is hard to fight. What do you think?" Lan Xue asked Luo Zheng quietly.
"Use the exhaustive tactic, Mountain Eagle!" Luo Zheng pondered and called.
"Yes!" Mountain Eagle promptly responded, puffing up his chest, battle spirit rising, while his team mbers perked up their ears, checking their gear.
"Spread out with your n, each find opportunities to ambush, don't let the enemy rest. Since they won't co out and we can't rush in, then ambush them—have them run until they're worn out." Luo Zheng commanded.
"Understood." Mountain Eagle imdiately grasped the essence of Luo Zheng's exhaustion tactic, smiled excitedly, waved his hand, and led his team swiftly, disappearing into the surrounding woods.
"Ghost Hand, take your team to ambush at the previous mountain fold. If the enemy dispatches reinforcents, stop them. That's the only route the enemy can use to counterattack us." Luo Zheng ordered, his cold gaze resting on Snow Leopard.
"Yes." Ghost Hand firmly agreed, leading his n away quickly.
"What about us?" Snow Leopard asked Luo Zheng, full of expectation.
Luo Zheng didn't imdiately answer Snow Leopard's request but instead approached the cliff edge to check. Below, in front of the temple, were piles of rubble, no one was cleaning it up, and no one was erging from the temple. No troops were stationed there, as if the temple had been abandoned, surprising him into contemplation.
"Could the target be killed?" Lan Xue approached and asked with surprise, looking below.
"That's impossible. If they were indeed killed, the enemy wouldn't retreat to defend. They should be protected within the army, and this temple has been abandoned. The enemy has significant forces, we can't match them head-on; only a ranged attack will work. Let's wait for an opportunity." Luo Zheng said quietly, turning and retreating to the mountain top.
"The brothers are still waiting for orders." Snow Leopard reminded softly.
"Wait for Mountain Eagle to attack, see the enemy's response, then we'll decide. You are on standby." Luo Zheng's face grew stern, he spoke seriously, his gaze fixed toward the valley, hearing Mountain Eagle's team report their positions over the earpiece. He raised his binoculars and coldly ordered, "Attack the horses, use Incendiary Bombs."
"Understood, attack the horses, Incendiary Bombs." Mountain Eagle repeated excitedly, fully understanding Luo Zheng's strategy. Horses would beco agitated once attacked, likely causing chaos, enabling flammable agents to ignite where the horses dash, creating a blaze and adding further confusion.
"Standby?" Snow Leopard hoped for an important task but didn't expect standby orders. Slightly disappointed, he remarked, "They both have missions, I'm on standby. How can I explain this to the brothers?"
"Standby ans important tasks await, but you have to wait. Don't you know this yet? Otherwise, you can go guard the mountain fold and have Ghost Hand standby. I bet he'd agree." Lan Xue scolded impatiently.
"No, standby it is. But guarantee I'll step in at critical monts." Snow Leopard imdiately chuckled.
"If there's an opportunity, would you dare lead your n and charge down with ?" Luo Zheng chuckled.
"I dare, no doubt." Snow Leopard's eyes glead, and he enthusiastically patted his chest, wholeheartedly agreeing.
