Luo Zheng gazed deeply at Lan Xue, saying nothing more, just offering a blissful smile. This smile, this look in his eyes, allowed Lan Xue to see feelings deeper than the sea and higher than the sky—steadfast and unwavering. Her heart ward, and she smiled in return, resembling a lotus blooming on a snowy mountain, pure, elegant, like a fairy untouched by worldly smoke.
When love reaches its depths, a single glance is enough; there's no need for sweet talk or romantic words, nor for vows that defy sea and stone, nor for incessant doubts. Love is risk, it is giving, not asking. Luo Zheng was willing to risk his life to protect Lan Xue, making that sacrifice without expecting anything in return. This made Lan Xue feel a profound sense of security in her heart.
Throughout this journey, Lan Xue did not complain or doubt, silently standing behind Luo Zheng, supporting all of his decisions, trusting without reservation. This trust deepened Luo Zheng's love, making it stronger and firr. They exchanged a smile, almost simultaneously reached out to brush the snowflakes off each other's faces and heads in a seamless, natural gesture, as if life was ant to be like this.
"We can't go east, south, or even west now. I've decided to head north, back the way we ca. It will be an incredibly tough journey, but it's our only chance to stay alive," Luo Zheng said, looking at Lan Xue with deep affection.
"Okay." Lan Xue earnestly helped Luo Zheng clean the snow off his head, like a caring wife looking after her husband, naturally and intimately, forgetting that she was still resting on Luo Zheng. She casually agreed, "I have thought about this issue too. I'll listen to you. After a day's and night's rest, shed so cold sweat in the sleeping bag, feeling much better."
"That's great, as long as you don't fall ill, the rest can be managed. With just the two of us, we present a small target; the enemy's attention is on the border line. They won't shift their focus for three days. After three days, we'll have our troops retreat from the border line, making the enemy think we've already breached the blockade and returned. Then they'll pull back their forces, and we just need to slowly move north without exposing ourselves, find an absolutely hidden and safe place to hide for five days. After five days, we continue south and return ho." Luo Zheng said earnestly.
"Why five days?" Lan Xue curiously asked.
"Three days after our army retreats, the enemy may not withdraw right away. It might be four, might be five days—it's just an estimate, possibly longer. We'll assess the situation then. We need to prepare for a prolonged fight," Luo Zheng said nonchalantly, glancing around.
Lan Xue then realized she was still laying on Luo Zheng, blushed with embarrassnt, but stayed where she was, fearing to lose him, and checked the surroundings, saying, "The enemy has searched here. I heard the barking of wolves, then shots fired. The enemy chased after the shots, should be you firing, right? You protected at the critical mont, truly my guardian angel."
"Of course, we need to go." Luo Zheng stated.
"Alright, I'll follow you; you're my man." Lan Xue chuckled, reluctantly getting up.
Luo Zheng also got up, taking out all the equipnt from the cave, so belonging to himself, handing the lighter one to Lan Xue. Lan Xue gladly accepted, sweetly smiled, and took it to carry on her back. Luo Zheng quickly blocked the cave entrance with piled snow once more, to avoid discovery by the enemy.
After completing all preparations, they walked north, intermittently stopping along the way. Lan Xue constantly asked about the events following their separation. Luo Zheng didn't want to worry Lan Xue, so he briefly explained, but even such a succinct account was thrilling enough. Lan Xue listened in secret surprise, her love for Luo Zheng deepened a bit more.
Unknowingly, it was noon when they hid in a forest patch. Luo Zheng opened the signal device, pulled out an invisible earpiece from his pocket and put it on, soon connecting to the satellite signal. An uncertain voice echoed in the earpiece, "Who?"
Recognizing Lan Xing's voice, Luo Zheng imdiately replied, "It's ."
"Brother-in-law? It's really you." Lan Xing shouted in delight.
Hearing Lan Xing's joyful sobbing, Luo Zheng was taken aback, asking, "I'm not dead, why are you crying?"
"Can't I be happy?" Lan Xing, seeing Luo Zheng unhard, was in great spirits, and replied in mock anger.
Luo Zheng heard the friendly laughter surrounding him through the earpiece; there were many people, yet he didn't inquire further, quickly saying, "Ti is tight, be cautious of the enemy discovering the signal source, let's keep it brief…"
"Is Lan Xue occasionally with you?" Nearly simultaneously, another voice interrupted Luo Zheng.
Recognizing the familiar voice, Luo Zheng was stunned, suddenly recalling who it was, and asked in surprise, "Chief?"
"It's , just glad you're alright." The speaker was Mr. Li.
"Hello, Chief, I'm fine, and so is Lan Xue. She's right here with . Want to speak with her?" Luo Zheng quickly said, handing the earpiece to Lan Xue.
Lan Xue took it, quickly saying, "Grandfather, everyone, rest assured. I'm okay, caught a bit of a cold and my body is exhausted. He saw I couldn't lift myself and hid , drawing away the enemy himself. Won't delve into details—ti is pressing. He has a plan to discuss with you." She handed the earpiece back to Luo Zheng.
Luo Zheng put on the earpiece again and said, "Hello, Chief, it's Ghost. Xue Er and I are looking for a secret place to hide in the north. Don't worry; we're a small target. The enemy won't expect us to head north. Three days later, you have our troops pull from the border, letting the enemy think we've crossed the line back ho. Contact again three days later to plan our return based on situation specifics."
"Agreed, but I've secretly sent Drunkard leading a team to infiltrate up. They'll reach your location within two days. With them, it'll be more convenient for you." Mr. Li promptly said.
"No need. More people an a bigger target, easier to expose. Now we need to hide and deceive the enemy into believing we're ho, everything else is moot." Luo Zheng quickly interjected.
"OK, I know what to do now. Be careful, you two. Director Wu and the team successfully returned across the border and are safe. Don't worry." Mr. Li said in a firm voice.
"Understood." Luo Zheng replied eagerly, quickly shutting the signal device to avoid detection of the signal and expose their location, which would be a costly mistake. While saying to Lan Xue, "The guys have returned; our efforts weren't in vain."
"Mm, just counting on these three days." Lan Xue said joyfully.
Luo Zheng looked ahead—a snowy forest with no real hiding spots—and furrowed his brow. Suddenly, he said, "How about we head to the Snow Bear Base Camp for a visit, see our old adversaries?"
"Sure, the more dangerous, the safer. Following you." Lan Xue responded indifferently. They quickly packed their equipnt, striding forward with determined steps.
