The sound of gunshots signaled the start of the battle. The terrifying sniper bullet added an eerie touch to this silent night sky. The enemy forces, Hariri's troops holding countless torches, were instantly forced to lie flat on the ground without moving by this shot. Imdiately after, the torches were deliberately extinguished, and the team rushing forward with murderous montum seed to disappear into thin air, leaving only pitch darkness. Not even a trace of sound could be heard, yet an endless killing intent rose into the sky, as if it was about to ignite the entire night sky.
"Hiss?" Luo Zheng's face turned grim upon witnessing this scene, his heart jumping into his throat. The previous camp had been bombarded into oblivion, rendering them utterly defenseless, but this reinforcent enemy troop was well-trained, making the most accurate decision in an instant. Without the torches, Luo Zheng had no way to execute a sniper attack.
"This team is no ordinary group," Ghost Hand softly reminded with concern.
"Yeah, it's possible they're coming up in small groups, we're in trouble," Luo Zheng said worriedly, his brows deeply furrowed. He glanced at Bar, who also wore a pensive, serious expression, having evidently realized the situation as well, and comnted, "I've heard Hariri is a rcenary by background, knows how to fight, and his troops are definitely well trained. From what we've seen, it's possible the most elite of Hariri's troops have arrived, perhaps even he himself is among them. What do you think?"
"I'm afraid we're in trouble," Bar said gravely.
"Yes, it's indeed a bit tricky," Luo Zheng acknowledged without sugar-coating the issue, "We have to speed up the retreat; I'm afraid we can't hold them off for long. Also, Hariri might send infiltrators up, so let's distribute our forces in three defensive tiers."
"Understood, I'll arrange it right away," Bar agreed, recognizing the seriousness of the situation, and turned to leave.
"Ghost Hand, Madela, you two advance a hundred ters, and lie in ambush at different angles. Be careful," Luo Zheng continued, aware that Hariri, being a rcenary, would utilize surprise attacks, seeking to gain the greatest advantage at the least cost. Their combat style resembles that of the Special Forces, so we must be cautious.
"Yes," Ghost Hand agreed, glanced at Madela, and hurried away. Madela also picked up his weapon, responded affirmatively, and quickly left. The two dashed forward, using the cover of night, reaching a hundred ters out and each finding a place to hide, watchful of enemy infiltrators sneaking up for an ambush.
Ghost Hand lay hidden behind a protruding rock, which could only cover most of his body but was invaluable in the otherwise flat, open terrain. Darkness stretched ahead, the visibility very low, Ghost Hand unsure if any enemy might have crept up under the cover of darkness. His ears perked, he grimly scanned the front, weapon at the ready for firing.
The front was a dead silence, devoid of any sound, leaving Ghost Hand uneasy. In the night, a thick sense of impending violence perated the air, so oppressive it made him want to shout out or even stand up and fire blindly ahead.
Fortunately, Ghost Hand was a person of great composure, not panicking in the least, his steely gaze fixed around him, eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. He absorbed his presence, imagining himself as one with his surroundings, not daring to let a trace of his killing intent give away his position and alert the approaching enemy.
After a while, Ghost Hand's brows suddenly twitched, his ears catching a faint sound, realizing that indeed, the enemy was creeping up under the cover of opportunity. His half-closed eyes slowly widened, straining to see ahead and finally perceiving a human silhouette approaching stealthily like a specter in the night.
"Puff, puff, puff!" Ghost Hand took aim at the intruders and decisively opened fire, releasing a swift burst of shots, the precision bullets piercing the sneaking enemies instantly, dropping three of them.
The sudden gunfire not only startled the enemy but also served as a warning to others. Madela also began firing bursts at the approaching enemies, and from two hundred ters away, Luo Zheng spotted enemy movents through his sniper scope. Though he could only make out their general outlines, faces indistinct, it was sufficient.
"Whiz, whiz, whiz!" Luo Zheng fired decisively, sniper bullets howling from the muzzle, carrying a nacing aura of death forward. In the night, they were eerily akin to the Reaper's scythe, harvesting the lives of enemy after enemy, the sniper bullets so precise that the enemies dropped dead without even a scream.
Luo Zheng quickly emptied his magazine, which only held five bullets, and had to remove it to reload. He noticed Bar getting sowhat excited, poised as if itching to jump in, prompting him to whisper urgently, "Tell your n to hold their ground. Wait until the enemy cos closer, then act on my command."
"Sure," Bar responded without dispute, promptly agreeing.
"Help reload," Luo Zheng continued.
"Alright," Bar replied, obliging without reservation.
A hundred ters ahead, Ghost Hand continued shooting at visible enemies, but his gunfire revealed his position. He soon faced an enemy counterattack, bullets streaming back. Though the protruding rock provided so cover, ricochets threatened injury, and the enemy's intense firepower left little room for counterfire, escalating the situation to a crisis.
"Whiz, whiz, whiz!" Several sniper bullets tore through the air, shredding the exposed enemy firing position at night. An enemy charged recklessly forward and a bullet struck his chest squarely. The bullet punctured his clothing effortlessly, penetrating his body, its energy unabated as it ripped through and exited his back, spilling a fountain of blood before his body crumpled, leaving a big bloody cavity.
This all unfolded under the cover of night, and Luo Zheng couldn't see, yet felt a growing number of attackers, pondering solemnly as he kept firing swiftly. The muzzle flash starkly illuminated the night, screams of agony ringing constantly ahead—but it was hard to tell where the bullets landed or if they'd indeed hit anyone—eerie to the extre.
"Should we rush in to assist? There are quite a few enemies, and if they advance another hundred ters, we'd be on the back foot, making things tough," Bar offered, his face serious, volunteering to engage.
"No, the enemy is extrely cunning, opting for small-group infiltration tactics—they're definitely prepared for us. We can't carelessly counterattack; instruct your n to be restrained, only fighting back when I give the order. When the ti cos, it'll be an all-out charge. Furthermore, it's unclear how many are lurking behind—leaving our defensive position is unwise," Luo Zheng quickly advised.
"What precautions could they have against us?" Bar, surprised, inquired further, watching Luo Zheng with a face full of doubt.
